Started on a new Gundam project
Hi everyone.
I started on a new project by ordering the Perfect Grade Gundam online and receiving it in the mail. It'll be a doozy to put together but I plan on splitting the build into 3 parts. I plan on building the head, chest and waist flaps in one day. Then build the legs the next day and assemble the arms on the last day.
With Transformers, the most important aspects are the robot mode, the vehicle mode, and the transformation. With transformable Gundams, they have lot of noticeable robot parts showing in vehicle mode or are tedious to transform. Hopefully, with the perfect grade Unicorn, it'll look great in both modes and transform easily.
Gundam Unicorn is a series market at older fans and featured at many anime conventions. It used high quality animation and was in continuity with the original Mobile Suit Gundam. Compared to the Gundam TV shows Bandai made at the time, it was like seeing Transformers Prime instead of Rescue Bots. Well, not exactly. There were 7 episodes and every episode was around an hour long. The last episode was a full length movie Gundam UC has been featured at many anime conventions. Unicorn has been a way for Bandai to get the most from their fan's wallets. Unicorn has sold many action figures, blue ray discs and has its own line of transforming model kits. The line includes two extremely large kits including the perfect grade and the HGUC Neo Zeong.

Mother f####! That PERFECT GRADE Unicron is the BOSS!

Yup.......great anime. It's like watching Disney's Peter Pan/Cinderella but using modern animation techniques.
If only Hasbro could bankroll a G1 Project using the old animation style but using modern techniques.

Dude, I don't just envy the fact that you've got a PG Unicorn, but also your bravery in building one!
I'd probably have a heart attack if I screwed up one of the decals on such an expensive kit. Even with my MG grade Aile Strike, I'm still getting cold feet whenever I just think of starting the build.
Either way, congrats on the purchase! Do post pics of the completed kit!

I've decided not to put the decals on. I'd probably mess it up and it wouldn't be show accurate. Besides, it's not like the figure is completely white I have to put stickers on to make it look good.
I got cold feet also. That's why I'm going to build it in 3 days. I'm already done with the chest, head and the waist flaps. Check out part 2 of my Unicorn build videos

Speaking of decals, I once screwed up the single most important decal on my MG Exia (you guessed it--the one on the shoulder), and I pretty much swore off decals from then on. And it wasn't even ruined or anything. The decal was a little slanted, but I got into an artsy fit for some reason, and scrapped it off.

PG Unicorn... I can not even imagine.
Had a friend who built a PG 00 Raiser at my place years back... I'm still not that brave...

Perfect Grade Unicorn isn't as bad as you think it could be. Unlike 00 Raiser, you don't need a make a big backpack for it. I purposely skipped out on the LED set to save myself from trouble.
Part 3 is up. I'm done with legs. It's great how Bandai managed to work in the sliding gimmick in the legs while hiding the red frame in Unicorn mode.

Re: Started on a new Gundam project
Part 4 of my building videos is up. If I recall correctly, I made a mistake where I inserted a piece of the gun upside down. Be sure to pay close attention to the instructions when building this. However this kit is meant to be able to be taken apart so the pieces will most likely survive a separation if I make a mistake

I love the perfect grade kits but money has always been a factor so I stuck to master grade (favourites been crossbone gundam ver. KA and F91, a design I feel is under appreciated).
Good work on the videos!

Thanks! I got the Perfect Grade because I've heard nothing but good things about it. So I just decided to go for it.
Check out my 5th build video which I just uploaded

Good on you! I bit the bullet and built the Perfect Grade Aile Strike Gundam about 2 years back. I was mostly impressed, but I kind of fell out of love with Gundam shortly after that (G Reco & Build Fighters were the final nails in the coffin).
I did build the MG Unicorn. It suffered a lot from dodgy proportions, and things not quite clicking on/in securely, lack of articulation in some modes, and it was generally a bit too much done on too small a scale. So many intricacies for it's size.
How does the PG measure up in your opinion?
