Kojin Ohno: Mr. Ohno started his career at TAKARA TOMY, working on the design of the Microman and Diaclone toy lines, which would later become one of the inspirations for the TRANSFORMERS toy line. Mr. Ohno created SUNSTREAKER, which is considered the first “car to robot transforming toy”.

Needless to say, it prompted me do do some research on the first Transformers toy I got back in 1984. It is a red Sunstreaker that was released shortly before the Transformers G1 line came out. What shocked me is how rare this figure seems to be. If I had any idea, I would have kept the box. Whet the hell, I was 7 years old, so I didn’t know any better. But I did manage to save all the accessories unlike most kids. However, to my knowledge the tail wing that says “Countach” had gotten separated. After several closet raids, I have lost hope of ever finding this missing piece again. I remember it being loose and always falling off as a child. Seeing as how I was so good at keeping all my accessories accounted for, maybe there is a reason I don’t have the tail wing. Maybe it broke.
Now, on to my real point. I’m going to Botcon 2010 and I know somebody’s got to have this piece and wants to make a few bucks. I am looking for the original Takara part which is red with chrome plating. Since it is red, I expect a little wear making the red visible. The one from Hasbro Sunstreaker would show yellow and ruin the vintage look of my figure which shows wear over the years on the chrome. I would consider the yellow Sunstreaker tail wing as a stand in for a few bucks, but am much more interested in the Takara/Diaclone tail wing. The “Countach” sticker is a must. However please don’t throw a ridiculous price at me. I’m thinking like 10-20 bucks. And it can’t be mint because then I have no way of knowing if it came from a G1 Sunstreaker possibly a reissue. Ill give 5 bucks for the tail wing from a reissue if you have one. So if anyone going to Botcon 2010 has either of these pieces and no use for them, please send me a private message and we can meet up in Orlando.
Thanks,
