By accident. It's funny.
My mom told me about ReBoot, which was still cool at the time for being CGI. At about the same time on certain days, Beast Wars would be on in it's place.
Then I got the internet, the next big piece. Google wasn't around then, so I seached as much as I could for Transformers sites. I found places like Ben's World of TransFormers. (BWTF, which I couldn've sworn used to mean Beast Wars: TransFormers.)
Downloading movies via Napster was still cool (And less dangerous) so my dad downloaded me TF:TM, which made me notice G1. (I recognized a lot of the characters, like Prime, Megatron, Starscream, and Unicron from their cameos in BW) I also downloaded the soundtrack, which I still think is awesome, even though I think the movie is way too cheesy.
Then, when I was twelve, I found Seibertron. Mostly I was into the Caption Contest, but since I was a pre-teen boy, Before Carly also caught my eye.
Later that year, after my birthday (And on November 18th, which is both my grandpa's birthday, and the day Doomsday killed Superman), I joined the forums, being the first forum I ever joined.
From there, it was easy going.

It as the summer of 1984, and 9 year old Decepticon Spike saw a toy commercial where a car turned into a robot. I begged my parents for one for my birthday, and I got Bumblebee and Wheeljack(I still have both of them). A few weeks later, after school started, a friend told me about a Transformers cartoon. That day I saw MTMTE part 3, and was hooked.

My brother used to collect the BW toys, & we both watched the TV series. Then BM came along & I had the whole TF's thing to myself. I bought TF:TM in '03 & had no idea what it was about, I had no knowledge of G1, or that there were old TF's that preceded BW & BM. I saw G1 Rodimus Prime at TRU 7 bought him. I thought it was pretty cool. I kept buying G1 re-issues. And here I am.

If you look at my sig, you'll see to of my life's joy. The Chicago Cubs and the TF's.
I would come home to watch the Cubbies play on WGN. It was 1984, the Cubs were making a playoff run. My 7 year old self was super excited cause that was my little league teams name.
One day the Cubs werent playing. More Than Meets the Eye came on.
From that day on, Cubs games being on made me mad cause it meant no Transformers.

My brother was a kid when TF was big, while I was 5 years younger and grew up on X-men. However, I watched what episodes he still had on VHS, read or should I say look at the pics of what G1 comics he had from marvel. Also, when he was at school I would go in his room, break out all his TF toys and play with them, then when he got home he had to pick them up. He also introduced me to the movie which I loved as a kid and still do.
Either ways it was my brother. Even when G1 died I found some satisfaction in watchin BW. Then when anything g1 related like re-issues came out he'd always tell me. I remeber when we got g2 Prime and G2 Constructicons or how we tried to track down 20th AE Prime. Then he bought the g1 series on DVD, after watching that so many times I was hooked. I was a huge X-Men geek as a kid but not much anymore. Now the tables have turned. Now I'm always givin my brother the TF news and updates.

I'm sure it had something to do with the neighborhood kids and how we all watched the same cartoons. During '84 and '85, I had amassed a mighty collection of the following 'bots- Cosmos, Smokescreen, Seaspray, Skywarp, and Soundwave. (I seemed to have a knack for choosing TFs with names that started with the letter 'S')
I remember getting Soundwave for Christmas in 1985, and poring over the instructions until I got it right. I was four, so it took some doing to get it right. Now, I could do it in my sleep.
My older cousin gave me Skywarp, which was totally complete and in pristine condition. It didn't take me long to lose the missiles, and over the years, I even managed to lose the figure completely. Ooops.
I'm told that the minibots were my first TFs, considering I was only three when these started rolling out. I think I got Cosmos and Seapray because my mom and I couldn't find Bumblebee, and to be honest, I thought a boat was a better toy than a VW bug, and I dig that Seaspray toy to this day.
I think I got Smokescreen for my birthday in '85. He had some good battles with Soundwave until I broke him in half at the swivel. I still kept those broken halves, for some reason. Smokescreen was one of the first reissues I bought.
After the movie, I remember getting Kup (who I later discovered was the Targetmaster version- never knew there was two different kinds) and I think my interest in the Transformers simply waned, since the cartoon was airing less frequently, and I was more into GI Joe since I could afford them with my allowance, and they didn't break as easily. Plus the Pretenders showed up, and I thought they were dumb.
I could go on about what got me back into TFs, but that's another thread.

for me i honenstly dont know. im hardcore 80s kid so i watched all the awsome shows from back then. the oldest memory of Tf for me is wanting optimus prime for my bday. and i remember getting it at my grandparents apartment during my party, running into my grandparents bedroom, unwraping the present to find out i got him, then ripping open the box to get it out....then i have random memorys of watching radom eps...i was in preschool at the time the show was out. but it just stuck with me. and my garndparents were cool and spoiled me hardcore and always got me toys and such. my grandpa also bought me the intro set of optimus primal(bat) and megatron(gator) set when beast wars first came out. that was an awsome night also.

I was about 4 or just turned 5 years old. He-Man was not that interesting for me, but I loved Knight Rider and StreetHawk and had inherited my Dad's love for cars, so when I saw cars that turned into robots, it just went from there. My first TF was Bumblebee, quickly followed by Huffer, Twintwist and Hoist. The rest is history.

I can't quite recall. I do remember my parents used to sit me down and watch the cartoon with me, so it must have been that.

Jealousy...
My friend across the street had G1 Optimus Prime and I didn't.
Oh how the tables have turned now!

I consider Transformers to be among what I consider to be Hasbro's Big Three, along with G.I. Joe and the long-lamented Jem. My first memory of Transformers were those early 80's Hasbro commercials. But things really didn't ramp up for me until the television series came out in 84 (Man, I miss those Marvel/Sunbow days.). Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide, Megatron, Starscream, they were badass!
But I gotta tell you, I wished that Elita-One and her Auto would've accompanied Optimus and company back to Earth in that episode "The Search for Alpha Trion". I consider them to be the Transformers equivalent of Jem and the Holograms, another Hasbro favorite of mine. Just think about it:
Elita-One - Jem/Jerrica
Firestar - Kimber
Chromia - Aja
Moonracer - Shana
Arcee - Raya

I remember watching the G1 cartoons probably when they first cam out.. and playing with my older brother's Transformers. I remember playing with Astrotrain, and some others but can't remember exactly who. Maybe Starscream and Soundwave, but I can't remember. Didn't they have more diecast to them in the 80's, as the ones I played with had a lot of metal on them..

I AM THAT WIERD FANGIRL YOU'VE HEARD OF.

Hand-me-downs from my older cousins. My first TF was a handed down G1 Scattorshot. Even though it's not in the best of condition these days, it still holds a special place in my heart.

My first TF was Prime. Bought the Japanese version whose outer box was the pits. But to my surprise, the inside was in pristine condition. Cost me a months allowance, and the rest is history.............
