So i'm relatively new here but ive been collecting transformers for 18 years since the age of five. That means i have a wealth of knowledge and opinions about transformers however im not sure if this particular one has been discussed. i apologize if it has but i didnt see it anywhere so here goes
pretty straight forward: who is your favorite transformers character and why? I know everyone has a favorite or two so lets hear it!
I choose Optimus Prime. Its not just because he's the leader. To me he represents a hero. Specifically he represents good. If anyone is a fan of stargate you may recognize this quote "there is really only one thing any of us can control in life, that is whether we are good or evil." Personally I have chosen to be as good as possible. Optimus Prime, in my mind, represents a point on the horizon that is not really possible to reach. He is just too darned good! therfore trying to be as good as him, while probably not possible, represents an ongoing effort to become better. Slowly I think I have. It may seem silly but there it is. Op has defined for me what good is at its best.
Just to clear things up ahead of time, I am not so obsessed with TF that I am not grounded in reality, however. My other hero is my father who represents what it means to do the best you can for those you love when and where it counts. In other words a more realistic worldly example of Optimus Prime.

Rather obviously, mine is G1 Ultra Magnus. I simply fell in love with him when I was a kid, and nothing has change in almost 25 years.
He's been ignored, ridiculed, and chastised by some, but to me he's pure awesome. After all, Prime choose him to be the new Autobot leader, not Rodimus, and I happen to trust Prime's judgement, especially after the car crash that was G1 season 3.

Such a tough question to ask.
There are so many. Aaaaaaaaaaaah

It's definitely not any stupid Autobot. cause they all suck anyways. Big time, they're misleading, deceptive, and freeloaders
but it's clear as energon
Soundwave...any form, continuity, remakes, repaints, vehicle form.
Soundwave FTW
and I also include his minions as parts of him.
why?
simple, he is the most successful Decepticon. He gets the job done.
example:
G1: Infiltrates Autobot base like it's his bee-otch. Always wins when in fights. Is a caring leader. Loyal to the core. And is actually the only representation of what a robot might be in a show that should be about robots.
Animated: He's ok, but still cool
Bayformers: he located the shard, dead simple.
Tf prime: damn, when soundwave took the picture of Miko, that was awesome, just a good come back and succesful again.
War for Cybertron: need I say anything about his bad ass design.
The only Decepticon to ever be depicted correctly. What more could you ask for.
Soundwave bar none

have to say I never thought too much about it but soundwave really is one of, if not the most, successful decepticons. I liked the point about being a caring leader. Most decepticons don't give a technorat's tailpipe about others, even other decepticons, but soundwave really does seem to care about his cassette forces. Cool Beans!

I agree, if I had to pick a favorite transformer based on b - a fighting skills it would be ultra magnus for sure. other leader types seem to rely heavily on their strength and stature. Magnus is truly a skilled hand to hand combatant as depicted in multiple encounters, in multiple storylines, with decepticons far more powerful than he is such as cyclonus, galvatron, and menasor.

Smokescreen.
Because I Try hard not to let him be my favourite. This is a clear indication that he's my fave, since I've been fighting it since day 1.
Why fight it? Because I prefer inner strength & technical precision to the advertised pinnacle-eg: Red Alert over Hotshot, The Ultimate Warrior over "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan, Trailbreaker over Smokescreen.
But Smokescreen is considered both the most devious and the most trusted Autobot. There is no scope to what he will do, and it's always for the group cause. Even if he isn't capable of controlling what he is doing, he has the capability to undertake an action he can't control. That makes him a real warrior, because he has to fight the very equipment or strategy he chooses to use at times, but if he doesn't go that far, the Autobot bodycount will be higher battle by battle. At the same time, he won't argue with what Wheeljack invents or Prowl devises. He'll use anything they give him because it makes his role easier and maybe more survivable: He'll fight it to make it work.
Furthermore, altho he is rumored to be likely to do something devious, there is no guarantee that he will, but he won't say either way. He'll just resign to the fact that he can be tempted to take any easy path at any moment of his own choosing, and set out to do what he started out to do. That makes him dangerous.
A lot of the Tech specs influenced me when I was growing up. Optimus was the most steady example, (and a GOOD one, especially on screen), but Smokescreen was the one that made the most impact. I remember thinking I could be like Hound, Prowl or even Grimlock when I grew up, but I couldn't EVER be like Smokescreen, it was what other people became. That toy generated a bunch of Soul searching that started in 1984 and is still going.

It's something that should never be taken away."
