- Motto: "A man who wants nothing is invincible."
alrighty. i got my quantron finally! i have thoughts and opinions!
i ended up completely backwards on this guy. what i thought id love, i was let down. what i disliked, ended up being my favorite.
lightspeed/celeritas:
i wasnt wow'ed by the car mode in pics, but its pretty nice and solid. and maybe i just have a soft spot because he was the only technobot i owned as a kid. the car kibble poking up from his legs are an annoying bummer, but thats my only negative. he's probably my favorite.
nosecone/sonic drill:
the first one i was surprisingly let down by. his neck platform didnt look like it fit where it was, and his chest splits apart if you look at it funny. also he has one of the most unnecessarily complicated transformations ever. his annoyances carry over to his leg mode...
afterburner/overheat:
in early pics, i hated those hands and the wheels in bot and arm mode. in hand, i absolutely adore him. the wheels on the shoulders fold back pretty far, in arm mode you can leave the wheels together instead of apart like the pics suggest, which to me looks much better. the head sculpt is odd, but oddly lovable. hes posable, and i love him two handing that hammer, so much so that i dont even notice those stupid hands. the way his feet transform are a little scary, but that aside the transformation is fun. and the bike mode is sleek.
strafe/blindfire:
i thought he would have been my favorite, but strange limitations in articulation dampened things. the way his thighs are sculpted, limits his legs ability to come all the way forward, and his feet while on ball joints are hampered by the rest of the calves. maybe these are nitpicks though. virtually everything else about him is pretty great.
scattershot/metalstorm:
damn what a solid figure. super fun to pose, and only really real negative is when trying to incorporate the combiner feet to his bot mode, which you can luckily choose not to do. like nosecone he's kinda complex, but im sure thats mainly due to having to be a combiner torso. so much clicky ratcheting... mmmm....
computron/quantron:
combined mode is brilliant. articulation is great, and he can hold many poses (keyword being hold). the pistons in the arms are a really nice touch. the only thing that dampens his stability is the foot connection on sonic drill. but all i have to do do is remember to hold him together to move the foot. other than that, he may be the most solid 3P combiner i own. though i will say his legs look a little thin when turned to the side. but thats no deal breaker.
i actually have no prior connection to computron. never saw him in the cartoon and only had lightspeed as a kid. to be honest, after growing up and learning more about TF's i found him to be the most forgettable combiner. but i fell in love with this figure in pictures, and i love it in hand. solidity is the biggest enemy of these 3P combiners, and quantron rises to the challenge. being a complete set means he has a hefty price tag, but its worth every penny to me. i cant recommend him enough!
