mechtech, removing the gimmick

i have been looking at the mechtech weapons and i must admit. some of them are just ridiculous. i modified my DOTM barricades gun so it was not so big and fell out of his hand all the time. has anyone else modded their mech tech guns to not have the gimmick? im thinking about removing sideswipes sword gun gimmick. he has two blades on his arms and does not need a freak sword in his gun too
now granted some of them are cool, and needed in order to keep the gun working properly.

check out my collection thread, updated 2/25/13, and i kinda lost count, i have to count them again....

I had to remove the spring from Laserbeak's canon so that when combined into the mega-canon the barrel would line up straight.

I took the spring out of Roadbuster's chainsaw and Deluxe Prime's axe.

Hah! I had forgotten Barricade even had a gun! I threw it off to the side and it's collecting dust. But, now that I think about it, he did use it during the final battle in Chicago... maybe I should use it. And yes, stripping it down should help.

Ugh, yeah. This is one of the worst designed Mechtech weapons. I'm constantly having to pop a gear to get it line up just right. In time, it'll just strip the dang thing and the gimmick won't work anyway. =\

I like Roadbuster's chainsaw, to be honest. I spent close to 30 minutes goofing with that thing like an idiot when I first bought him. It was like those babies in the videos "At first I was like
I still tend to do it with each new Mechtech weapon. I can't help it, I'm an idiot.

I took the spring out of Roadbuster's, but I still like alternating it between chainsaw and gun. A tad loose now, though.

I don't really have a problem with the Mechtech gimmick, except for the fact that Hasbro has shrunk the scale sizes of the TFs just to make up for the cost.

here is the mod i did it barricades gun.

i think its cooler and way easier for him to hold. ^_^ i used nothing but the original gun. there were parts left over.

Weapon: tea cup."
Ratchet: I took the blade and made it attachable to his wrist with magnets.
Crankcase: I chopped it into little pieces and reassembled it into a gun that fits over Ratchet's hand.
Barricade: I removed the mechanism and made a smaller gun out of it.
There are other ideas for other figures but I haven't gotten around to them yet.

I do the same thing to be honest. The gimmick is entertaining, but at some point I decided that Roadbuster needed the option to keep his chainsaw out. Prime's was taken out when I painted it up.
Recently got Topspin, but haven't taken the spring out of his claw yet. Said claw also got passed off to Roadbuster since he needs more gun.

I just took the springs out of the Deluxe weapons, so they can stay open by themselves. I stiffened some of the joints so they don't flop around in certain poses, but that's it. I like the over-the-top nature of some of them, although I like what Doubledealer93 did w/ Barricade's.
