Did anybody else see this new version? I looked through GD topics and did not see it. I personally think that the remakes of Halloween was a lot better. It was totally a better telling of the tale, more in depth.
This movie was less campy than the original version, and it had Megan Foxx's jerk boyfriend from Transformers in it. It had plenty of eye candy for guys, but not a lot was new or changed, or learned like Rob Zombie did with Halloween.
I did 'think' I saw a Bay nod to Transformers in it. I thought in one of the scenes that had a junked up yard, there was a boat and it's engine, I swear it had the HASBRO Transformers 25th logo on it. Maybe it was 25 for something else, but I could have sworn it was that very logo.
Anyway, anybody else see the movie? Are we just afraid to talk about it, or is there a thread in the movie forum because it was a Bay movie, or something?

It had a couple problems. One: It couldn't seem to decide if it would be a sequel or remake. Two: It couldn't convince me to stop feeling sorry for Jason. The guy has a mental capacity of a three-year-old, all he wants do do is make his mom love him, and these jerk teenagers can't leave him alone. Three: Jason is supposed to have, like I said, the mental capacity of a toddler. So how does he outwit a bunch of teenagers, at least the sober ones? Four: why did Jason Bother kidnapping the girl, If he supposedly has his mom's severed head? Wasn't that enough for him? And finally: Why did the teenagers go camping if they knew the alleged serial killer there was never caught or killed? the pot really isn't that valuable.

You nailed it. I couldn't quite figure out what was wrong with the movie, and that's it, sequel or remake, but I am more into it being a remake, and it seemed more like one, but yeah, it seemed sequelish...
You'd think someone could find him at Crystal Lake. I mean if they even looked. The kids found his home in the middle of the night, and it was obvious to them that someone was living there. Cops? Investigators? Now if there was a conspiracy like in Texas Chainsaw Massacre where the local police were all part of the Voorhies family or something and wouldn't put much time or effort into, and protect Jason, than that would be fine, but that's not the feeling that I got from it.

I think it was a sequel, even though everyone said it was a reboot. It had a two-minute recap of the first movie and apparently borrowed stuff from a few of the others, but c'mon... it's a sequel.
Anyway, I didn't really have much problem with it. It was horribly good... as much as one of these can be. You have to overlook the plotholes though.

I saw it on Friday the 13th before going to see Wednesday 13(awesome awesome singer/band!)
I did enjoy it quite a bit. I don't see how anyone could say it was a sequel though. It combined elements of the first three movies.
Pamela being the first killer: Friday the 13th Part 1
Jason wearing the burlap sack mask: Friday the 13th Part 2. Even though it looked way more menacing in the remake.
Jason finding the hockey mask: Friday the 13th Part 3.
Some of the kills were freaking amazing. The girl under the dock? Come on that was brilliant!
My only real problem was the guy playing Jason didn't have the little quirks Kane Hodder(greatest person to ever play Jason) had. I still felt for Jason, but no where near as much as I did for Kane's Voorhees.
Its not better the the originals, but it was good. Rob Zombie's Halloween was better then the original and Bay's version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre was far better then the original(what a snoozefest!). I'm just throwing that out there just in case anyone tries to say I'm only saying its not as good because its not the original. But I'm definitely buying it and I'll proudly display it next to the rest.

I watched it on Friday 13th with my mate, it was awesome!
I love that they didn't try to make Jason some kind of hero by giving him a background and make you relate to him.
I loved his stealthiness.
I loved how TF bully dyed.
I'm glad the dudes sister dyed at the end teaches you right for doing that to Jason.
I loved the eye candy, although I think it was kinda drastic how he BBQed that chick, mmmmh BBQ tits.......

I saw it and loved it. Love the death scenes. Not as cheesey as the original series.
I believe it was a reboot. I don't see a reason to why it would be a sequel. The started off as his mom as the original killer and working up to him and him getting his hokey mask. If it was just a sequel, wouldn't Jason just start out with his hockey mask?
I didn't think it needed a lot of background story, like Halloween did. They gave enough the beginning to give a decent back ground. Heck, they had to combine several movies get to a certain point in this one. Halloween did not have that problem.
Oh and the reason he kept her alive is because he looked a lot like his mom as was seen in the locket he had.
In all, I liked it just as much as the reboots of Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I will definitely be getting it when it comes out. Hopefully they continue on with some sequels.

According to interviews with Bay a sequel has been planned since the beginning.

Really? You felt for Jason? One of the reasons I watch these movies is cuz I don't feel for Jason. If there's any movie I can turn my brain off for, it's F13. That's why they're cool.
I thought the killings got a little stale near the end. Except for a few, everyone was stabbed with the machete (or screwdriver/axe/deer horns/whatever tool) or sliced with the machete. I like the 80s where a man wasn't afraid to stab another man with a party favour. Or punch someone's head off. Or split someone's upper half apart with a sign post.
But then again, I thought Jason vs. Freddy was awesome, and I don't think that got much more creative than the machete/bladed weapon kills (maybe aside from the sandwich-in-bed... heheheh...)

Freddy vs Jason made me mad for one reason, Jason has NEVER been "afraid" of water. Where the hell did that come from? Seriously, did the writers of that movie not watch any of the others? How do they think he got to Manhattan?
And yes, I did feel for Jason because I too miss my mommy. My mom's not dead, just in another state and I haven't seen her in years. Stupid reason to relate to a killer I guess, but oh well

I'm not seeing anymore remakes because I'm sick of them. The only movies I have any interest in are Coraline and Watchmen.

Ah, it's probably just me then. I mean... I can see the sympathy you can feel for Jason. He was handicapped and, because of that and camp counselor libidos, he drowned. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong; it's been a while.) But I see the movies and he's a killing machine. Almost literally. So I tend to forget the sympathy factor. But that's the fun for me.

Am I the only one that sees the trailers for Watchmen and sees a lot of cheesiness? The costumes look like they're from TV series or a movie from the 80s. I'm still going to see it, but it looks really cheesetastic to me.

I will say I neither read the graphic novel nor paid much attention to it. I don't really know much about it at all, in fact. But seeing the movie trailer makes me want to see the movies... even if the costumes are cheesy. And Dr. Manhattan looks way cool. And the girl looks way hot.

Re: Michael Bay's New Horror Movie- Friday the 13th- U C It?
Anyway, I'd like to see a remake where we get more into Jason's head. I've always had this theory that Jason was haunted by Pamela, who would talk him through each spree.
My remake would have Jason be capable of mild speech, show visions of Pamela encouraging him to kill, and guiding him through each step of the massacre.
Also, the local police could be involved a bit more. maybe have the protagonist be a detective who survived Pamela's initial rampage, and begins investigating the murders of other survivors, and returns to CCL to hunt Jason as he begins picking off new counselors, some who even were his fellow campers when he drowned. As the story went on, it would reveal that our hero cop was the counselor who left Jason unattended, and is trying to overcome the guilt from that mistake. Maybe it would even have flashbacks showing him to be Jason's favorite counselor, someone he really trusted in, who would protect Jason from the bullies and help him overcome his retardation.

The day they make a movie where Jason talks is the day I burn Hollywood down to the ground. That's wrong on so many levels. Its one thing to have him run, but to give him the ability to speak? That's a big NO.
That would ruin the character. If your watching Friday the 13th for a psychological thriller then your watching it for the wrong reason. Why can't people enjoy mindless violence anymore?

I noticed the same thing as you. I don't know when he has been afraid of water, except for maybe at the end of Jason Takes Manhattan in the sewer. But that condridicts how he got there in the first place, by riding on the side of cruise ship for the students.
I just figure the had to handicap him in that movie somehow because Jason is so bad@$$ that he would have seriously effed Freddy's sh!t up, even in his dreamword.

When I talked about Jason speaking, I didn't mean full-out dialogue. I meant saying little one-word statements in a twisted and garbled fashion to creed the hell out of the audience and make them wet themselves. Like when he sees the picture of Pamela, he utters a low, almost-demonic sounding, "mommy." It would add an extension to make him even scarier.

She did it in Freddy vs Jason, or was that Freddy using her face, I can't remember. But it could be in Jason X after all I'm no expert I've only seen Freddy vs Jason and the new one.
I must find the uncut versions on DVD, fu**ing censor over here suddenly hates old school movies like Jason, Freddy and Army of Darkness.

Its in Freddy vs Jason, but its Freddy disguised as Pamela.
Jason X was awesome though, kinda campy, but some of the lines and deaths were just awesome.
