Motto: "Can't do a job halfway. What's worth doing is worth doing well, I say."
Weapon: Saber Blade
Here's the comparison for last week's episode:
*SPOILERS WARNING*

In episode 8:
  • Thought bubbles of strawberry cake were placed over Bulk and Skull thinking about Billy's mind-reading machine
  • A "FRZAP!" was placed over Billy flipping the switch on his machine.
  • A spinning blue and pink "UH! OH!" was added to Billy/Kim's and Kim/Billy's scream when their minds are switched (also seen in the "Today on Power Rangers" segment).
  • The words "WOOF WOOF!" with a pink background were added to Bulk and Skull crawling into Billy's garage lab.
  • A rotating gray and red "UH! OH!" was added to Skull/Bulk's and Bulk/Skull's scream when neither minds are switched.
  • The new lightning bolt effect that was inserted to replace the old one seen during the rangers' morphing sequences was added in right as the Rangers teleport to he command Center to bring in the lamp.
  • A background was placed behind the rangers' group pose immediately before they fight the genie
  • Another background was placed over the Ranger's second group pose (it may have been the same sunrise one from episode 1)
  • The same backgrounds from the first episode that were used for each Ranger's individual pose were used for each in their poses here too
  • The same sun background from episode 4 (and the opening sequence) was added to the Megazord's midway transformation form Tank Mode to Battle Mode.
Surprisingly, that genie actually has a pretty good voice. I think it might be Devimon's dub voice from Digimon (Tom Wyner).

Zordon: "There is a dangerous disturbance in the Morphing Grid, Alpha." This just further adds to the evidence that the Morphing Grid is a ripoff of the Force from Star Wars.

WHY IS THERE SO MUCH TELEPORTING?!!

So, basically Zordon's plan for the Rangers to defeat the genie is nothing but Burning Justice? You gotta be kidding me!

Oh, good grief! Alpha is especially gay in this episode! Moreso than normal.

How exactly does destroying the lamp effect the Morphing Grid?

Editing error: Bulk's cap that Skull wears disappears from his head near the episode's end.

As for this morning's episodes, for some unexplained reason, instead of showing a rerun of last week's episode first, they showed a rerun of episode 3, in all its messed up glory (or lack there of). Episode 9 played, though.
*SPOILERS WARNING*

In episode 9:
  • Again, they make the mistake of showing episode 1's beginning footage between the "Today on Power Rangers" segment and the opening sequence! But this time, they messed up further! They started the footage like normal, but merged it with the normal theme song by making Rita say, "Don't leave. You'll miss my coming-out partyafter ten thousand years, I'm free! It's time to conquer Earth!" (not a typo) They actually edited the footage with the theme song's dialogue to make them into one long, unnecessary sequence!
  • A digital pyramid and lasers background added to Zack using the VR game.
  • A smacking "BIFF!" was added to Kim's kick to a Putty.
  • A smacking "BAM!" was added to Zack's kick to a Putty.
  • A smacking "POW!" was added to Trini's kick to a Putty.
  • A falling "OOPS!" was placed over Bulk's pants disappearing (censorship? And how many times is this guy gonna have something happen to his pants!)
  • A smacking "Snap!" was placed over Zack stopping Skull's punch.
  • A "DUCK!" and a "FLIP!" were added to Bulk getting beat by Jason and Billy.
  • A photo cutout background was added to bulk and Skull's emergence from the fashion makeover chamber.
  • A background was placed over the Rangers' group pose just after they morph. Also, the camera pan moved abnormally as well.
  • (not sure if this is new, but) the screen was split into four screens during part of the Megazord's Tank Mode formation.
The handshake between Billy and Willy was the lamest handshake I've ever seen.

The concept of that fashion makeover chamber seems awfully similar to Steve Urkel's Transformation Chamber from Family Matters.

Okay, so Willy is disqualified for trouble caused by Bulk and Skull? And how did that judge not notice Bulk and Skull stirring it up anyway? Is he really that absentminded and jerk-like? It would also seem that the judge is bipolar, as he goes from jerk to buddy (near the episode's end) all too easily. He even gives Willy first prize! What?!!

Willy's voice sounds an awful lot like Brianne Siddall.

Why would Jason assume so easily that Rita is responsible for Willy's disappearance? She may be the main villain of the show, but it could be a number of things that would explain why Willy's missing and his cap isn't.

*communicator beeps* Jason: "It's Zordon. He's calling us in. Prepare to teleport." Well, thank you, Captain Obvious! We never would've figured that one out.[/sarcasm]

If you look closely, you can see someone behind the Blue Ranger that he's protecting from a blast of Eye Guy's main eye. This is Zyuranger footage, so it's something snuck into Power Rangers that isn't acknowledged.

Once again, like in episode 5, the lines "Megazord sequence has been initiated," and "Megazord activated!" were spoken much more clearly than normal in this episode.

I think the the only main difference between the two is that the Force hasn't had a physical image (to my knowledge).

Here's what the Morphing Grid looks like (when damaged. The undamaged Morphing Grid lacks the lightning bolts):

The only two off the top of my head would be Star Trek and Doctor Who. And that's mostly because they're both older than Star Wars.

I remember being 4 years old (I'm 26) and seeing Doctor Who on and not understanding whats going on but being somewhat intrigued by it and thought it was a tad creepy but in an ok sorta way and being confused why the characters spoke different.

Sorry I'm a bit late, but I got the latest comparison now.

First, a rerun of episode 4 played, followed by episode 10.

In episode 10:
  • Hearts and the word "Sweetheart" appear in front of Angela when she first appears.
  • A ripping heart and bursting tears appear on Zack when Angela tells him to "Get real," after he first tries to ask her out.
  • (Not sure if this is new, but) Kim flashback is very fuzzy.
  • Black lines were placed behind Bulk and Skull freaking out over Uncle Steve feeling dizzy.
  • Same thing again when Uncle Steve faints.
  • Again for their third freak out.
  • The Rangers's dino logos appear above and behind them right after they morph and land in the park.
  • A yellow smacking "POW!", a pink smaking "BIFF!", a gray smacking "BAM!, and a red zooming "ZZZZING" appear in the fight against Snizzard when he hits the Rangers.
  • A "Yay!" and two rainbow shooting stars were placed above Bulk and Skull running away... wait, what?!!
  • A big "SPLASH!" was placed over bulk and Skull getting covered in milkshakes. Man, did these two actors have no dignity back then?
Though it's most likely a coincidence, Jason wears black instead of red at the episode's beginning, which seems to be foreshadowing to his color of choice in Zeo.

A worth noting that ABC is now using the new MMPR logo in some of its ads instead of just the original logo.

They pretty much rip off the 2001: A Space Odyssey music when the plane takes off.

Can Bulk and Skull faint at will?!!

Alpha tells Kim to begin her descent after she's already descending!

Cheese....

I still own the White Tiger megazord(the only zord I can think of that was Megazord on it's own aside from Dragon Megazord by the green ranger.) it's currently using Optimus Primes trailer as prop to keep from falling over. (It's missing a leg.)

There was never a foreshadowing of jason becomming the Gold Ranger because at the time the plan was to have season 2 be a whole new team with different powers and new bad guys. Basically the formula they started using after PIS. (Zeo's corresponding Sentai series had not been produced yet.)

Even the contract dispute that lead to his, Zack, and Trini's departure, and changing of the story so that Tommy became the White Ranger, in season 2 hadn't happened yet either. (Jason and Tommy were pretty much the most popular of the original Rangers and if they lost both of them, ratings would have fallen.) And Jasons return was probably only because ratings were falling during Zeo due to the original audicence getting older and turning away from Power Rangers and wanted to keep what they could by bringing back an old favorite rather than going with Billy as the Gold Ranger, which was probably the original plan.

Today, a rerun of episode 5 played first, followed by episode 11.

In episode 11:
  • A fiery background was put behind and the inside the eyes of the Mr. Ticklesneezer doll just as Rita speaks her first lines of the episode.
  • A pink "SPLOOSH!" was added when bulk gets squirted in the face by Billy's volcano
  • A pink "Spit!" was added to Bulk spitting on Skull.
  • A yellow "KRAK!" was added to Jason breaking the cement plate with his hand.
  • A tan "KRAK?" was added to Bulk failing to chop the cake with his hand.
  • A red "KICK!" was added to the Red Ranger kicking a Putty in the head.
  • A pink speeding "Zip!" was added to the Pink Ranger's cartwheel when fighting the Putties.
  • A black smacking "BOP" was added to the Black Ranger punching out a Putty.
  • A pink hearts background was added to the Pink Ranger catching Mr. Ticklesneezer's bottle.
  • A blue background with white stars and yellow arrows was added to the Blue and Yellow Rangers jumping into battle.
  • Rain clouds pouring rain were added to Goldar, Squatt, and Baboo retreating.
  • A brand new flashy background was added to the Megazord Tank Mode's assembly when its name appeared at the bottom of the screen.
First appearance of Ms. Appleby.

Zack's hobby is surfing? I thought for sure that he'd be break dancing instead.

If Kim weren't wearing that belt, her shirt would've fallen down while doing that handstand. ;)

The exterior of Trini's house looks a LOT like the house of Nick Martin from The Adventures of McGee and Me.

When Billy and Trini are sucked into the bottle, they seem to lose all courage and become utter cowards. Couldn't they at least morph and try to break out of the bottle using their weapons?

When Kim says "I'm amazed at how many years of training it takes to do this without hurting yourself," about Jason chopping the cement plate, you can SO tell that this line was added in to keep kids from trying to same thing on their own.

Goldar had his wings when he retreated! A pre-Zedd episode where he had his wings!

The Megazord looked absolutely ridiculous and silly when it got sucked into the bottle. And when it's trapped inside the bottle, the small model used for it doesn't look like any of the old Bandai figures (Megazord or Daizyujin versions), so it must've been a unique model.

For once the Rangers actually did something smart by attacking Rita directly with the Megazord using the bottle against her.

Are you slaggin' kidding me?!! The whole episode was nothing but a DREAM?!!! How pathetic can you get?!!!

Heh. "Farkas and Eugene." Heh, heh.

The green ranger episodes seem to always be the most fun to watch. The 5 part mini series when he was introduced. The green no more episodes. And the epsiodes where zordon charged his power coin and he came back. AND best of all green ranger fighting white ranger from the past total awesome.

While getting my car serviced this morning, the TV was stuck on ABC and Power Rangers. I saw the episodes with the giant pig and evil black knight.

I haven't seen these episodes in years. I was honestly stoked that Power Rangers was on.

Yesterday, a rerun of episode 6 played first, followed by episode 12.

In episode 12:
  • A red "Crash!" was added to Skull being pushed down by Trini.
  • A smacking "KLANG!" was added to bulk smacking his head into a pole, followed by several smacking "POP!"s added to him falling into a box of balloons.
  • The most absurd background describing Skull's full name, "weapons" ("Whiny laugh") and "Zord" ("Mega Bootlicker") was added to Skull getting back up and looking mad.
  • A splashing "SPLOOSH!" was added to Skull's head landing in the cake maker.
  • A golden background was added to the Knasty Knight's debut just before the commercial break.
  • A fireworks background was added to the Knasty Knight jumping towards Zack.
  • A "Black Ranger" background was added to the Black Ranger posing with his weapon, followed by another background added to him jumping to attack.
  • A laser background was added to the Rangers posing with their Blade Blasters.
  • The same sun background from the theme song was added to the Megazord's mid-transformation to Battle Mode.
"Cake-O-Matic"... Do I even have to ask? And that cake mix it's spewing out looks more like soap.

Ernie: "I hate machines." Reminds me of Captain Fanzone from Transformers Animated.

Are they allowed to casually talk about Batman and Gotham City on TV like this? Aren't they copyrighted or something?

Not only is Kim a terrible liar, but she's pretty cold with that poodle story.

The lights coming out of Squatt's camera when its "out of control" are colored like the other four rangers. Did a Zyuranger plot try to sneak in at this point?

Zordon's voice sounds different, and he again makes the Morphing Grid sound like a ripoff of the Force from Star Wars.

Everyone but the Pink Ranger summoned their zords, yet hers came anyway.

The lines "Megazord sequence has been initiated," and "Megazord activated!" were not spoken in this episode.

Rita: "Great galaxy gas!" Who writes this stuff?!

What is that song played at the end?

I saw this thread a few times and finally said what the hell. My curiosity got the best of me as I wondered how this show was still on tv.

I think its funny in a twisted sort of way that they are re-tooling a tv-13 show into a tv-g show. I won't go into the details, but doing so is hurting the kids more than helping them.

The reason I posted was because I took the threads advice and checked out the last four eps of pr:rpm.

I am 31 now. I remember when mmpr first premiered. I watched it as a middle ground between live action and animated. It was campy and corny at times, but it was supposed to be.

Nearly 2 decades later [wow], I found myself watching the end of the last series.

I learned two things by doing so... RPM can teach Bay a few things about character development AND Olivia Tennet :x just recently turned... 19 #-o

PR: RPM, reminding the older generations of just how old we really are. ;)^

Today, another rerun of episode 12 played... followed by episode 13! FINALLY! A new episode to watch!

In episode 13:
  • Bubbling red hearts and a zipping blue dove were added to Zack's sarcastic kiss to Jason
  • A putty's head and a sharp glowing background were added to the head of the first clown we see in the episode
  • A dripping yellow "Plip!", "Plip!", "Plop!" and "SPLAT!" nailed Bulk and Skull in the head with each egg dropped on their heads.
  • A collapsing red "BOOM!" was placed over the civilian Rangers's human pyramid falling down
  • A smacking white and red "KICK!" was added to Kim kicking a Putty with a carnival ride seat.
  • A red "KRAK!" was added to Jason kicking a Putty.
  • A smacking "BIFF!" was added to Zack grabbing the Putty that rammed into him.
  • A smacking pink "SNAP!" was added to Kim kicking another Putty
  • A pink, red, blue, and black background was added to the Rangers's battle pose right after they morph.
Billy seemed all too eager to try egg-juggling.

How does Rita know the name of the little girl? She only has a telescope that can look down on the Earth. She doesn't have any method of hearing what is being spoken down there from way up on the Moon!

Rita: "Finster, don't blow it this time." - surprisingly that line was actually perfectly synced up to Bandora's lip movement.

From behind, Pineapple the Clown looks kinda like a non-short, blonde Mario.

Billy, a middle-class high school student, has a device in his garage that might be able to change a cardboard cutout into a living, breathing, human being. ... ... ... ...WHAT?!!! I don't care even if it's because he's a Power Ranger, no person would ever have the money or the technology to pull off that kind of miracle!!! And without the use of magic! He would have be some kind of god or whatever.

Jason mentions Rita's name in a megaphone as though everyone knows who she is, which causes everyone in the carnival to panic and flee in terror. How do they know who Rita is? Seriously! She never made her presence known to the general public, yet there are news reports mentioning her and now this. EXPLAIN!!!

When Zack fights the Putty that rammed into him, there's a point where you can see a glare reflecting on the camera lens.

Trini: "So what is it, Alpha? What's wrong with her?" - SHE'S A CARDBOARD CUTOUT!!! THAT'S WHAT'S WRONG WITH HER!!!
Alpha: "The analysis shows that the only critical thing she's missing is H2O. You know, water." - Come on! Turning into cardboard cutouts is NOT what happens when a person is dehydrated!

Alpha is absolutely terrible at stealth. If he doesn't want to be seen, he should trying shutting off his loud, obviously noticeable voice!

Man, Pineoctopus's voice and dialogue couldn't be more cliche if all his lines were changed to just, "I'm evil! I kill you! I'm evil! I kill you!"

The zords are fighting individually! And are actually doing pretty well! And the Megazord's Tank Mode did some damage too! And the Megazord actually finished off the monster without needing its sword! This was actually a pretty cool zord battle sequence. The usual giant monster fight has the five zords forming the Megazord quickly and taking out the monster with its sword, with the whole fight being very brief. Here, the individual zords got some action, utilizing their individual weapons to immobilize the monster, followed by the Megazord Tank Mode inflicting some damage, with the Megazord to finish it off with a non-sword secondary attack. Way to be creative for once. My hat's off to this fight sequence.

Wait a sec. Rita said that that carnival was a fake, which means that we can presume it was created by her. So why did it not disappear after her plans were thwarted?

Just saw the Stylized Ranger set. They're in scale with the Transformers Robot Heroes or Marvel Super Hero Squad. I love how companies are putting out toys in this scale.

This past Saturday, something very unexpected occurred. A rerun of episode 13 played... followed by episode 17!!!

Episode 17! Do you know what this means?!! It means that the moment several of us having been waiting for has come at an earlier time than we thought. Because episode 17 is "Green With Evil, Part 1 - Out of Control".

So, Are you ready to experience the 2010 redone version of the 5-part Evil Green Ranger debut episode? Let's dive in and see what they did.

In episode 17:
  • A green aura blur was added to Tommy's moves in his first appearance.
Bubbling hearts were added behind Kimberly when she called Tommy cute.
  • Lots of black lines, Japanese characters, a "YA", a "woosh", a "Flip", and a "BOOM" were spread all throughout the tournament fight between Jason and Tommy.
  • A red aura and a dino roar were added to Jason's final blow to Tommy.
  • Pink flowers and fireworks were added to Kim watching Tommy walk off.
  • Black lines and a green aura were added to Tommy seeing Putties for the first time, and this was repeated after the commercial break.
  • More Japanese characters that turned into a "BAM!" and a "CRUNCH!" were added to Tommy's first Putty fight.
  • A green background and a sort of "comic panel"-type border were added to Tommy's first becoming of the Green Ranger.
  • Another "comic panel"-type border was added in and the background was blurred out right after the Rangers morphed and posed.
  • A background featuring the Megazord's Tank Mode was added to the Rangers first summoning their zords.
  • New Zord logos featuring their names, colors, assigned Rangers, and Power Coin logos were added to each of the Zords's appearings. Same goes for the Megazord Tank Mode (but still nothing for Battle Mode).
  • Another "comic panel"-type border and a "glaring effect" were added to the Green Ranger entering the Megazord's control room.
  • Another "comic panel"-type border and a green background were added to the Green Ranger laughing right before the last commercial break.

Kim sure has an interest in Tommy, yet she's the one who dumps him later on in Zeo.

Tommy seriously just showed off his moves to scare off Bulk and Skull. Did Jason ever think of doing that?

Did Rita seriously spout gibberish just to cast a spell?

We can clearly tell that that is Burai's corpse and not Tommy's body. Burai's face and clothes are still visible despite being hidden by the shadows.

The Green Ranger has a different shield in all American footage than the shield he has in all Zyuranger footage. This is already well known, but it doesn't hurt to repeat it.

Zordon and Alpha just had to pick that particular moment for each take a rest.

We get a really good look at a Captain Golem Hei (the lead Golem Hei footsoldiers in Zyuranger) in this episode.

Before breaking that mountaintop with his sword, why was Goldar doing absolutely nothing as a giant?

Goldar: "Prepare to feel the wrath of Rita Repulsa!" - um, you're Goldar, not Rita.

When the Green Ranger knocked the other Rangers out of the Megazord's head, he jumped out with them. Why didn't he stay inside the Megazord to use some of its weapons against them?

The Green Ranger totally used a Kamehameha against the other Rangers.

"We're doomed" - LOL

No no, it makes sense. I can't exactly put into words how it makes sense but it does.

A rerun of episode 17 played today. followed by episode 18.

Time to dive in to the second chapter of the evil Green Ranger miniseries! this is "Green With Evil, Part 2 - Jason's Battle".

In episode 18:
  • Jason David Frank's credit as Tommy and a glimpse of the Dragonzord rising from the sea were added to the theme song and will likely remain from here onward. Also ,the end of the theme song was changed fro mending on the Megazord's pose to a pose of the five Rangers without the giant "GO! GO!" letters.
  • The flashback of Finster describing the Sword of Darkness was zoomed out and given a new border frame.
  • (Not sure if this is new, but) a green aura flash was added to Tommy's upward kick to a Putty
  • (Again, not sure if this is new, but) another green aura flash was added to Tommy knocking down a Putty and slamming it to the ground.
  • (Again, not sure if this is new, but) Tommy's fist was glowing green when he was staring at it.
  • Tommy's aerial split was paused and given a comic-type panel background
  • (Again, not sure if this is new, but) Tommy's body and the sword were glowing green when he was swinging the sword upon earning it.
  • A big diagonal ( and humorous) "BETRAYED!" was placed over Tommy's zapping of Jason to Rita's Dark Dimension.
  • An image of the five Rangers, with the Red Ranger crossed out, was added to Tommy saying "One down, four to go."
  • Shiny lines were added to the close up of Goldar holding Jason's morpher.
  • Red sparkles and a red glow to the bar in the background were added to Jason looking determined to beat Goldar.
  • White flashes were added to the background of Goldar a few seconds after the above edit.
  • Green shockwaves on the ground, two orange "BOOM"s, and some Japanese characters were added to the Green Ranger letting the other Rangers "feel the power of the Sword of Darkness!"
  • The same changes to the summoning of the Zords as episode 17 were performed in this episode.
Is there some kind of aquarium inside the Command Center?

I'm actually surprised that they didn't consider the Green Ranger to be working for Rita sooner. Before, the Rangers would put the blame of any and all problems that they dealt with on Rita. Now, the Green Ranger shows up and they're like, "What's this guy's deal?" and it's not until later that they're like, "Oh wait! Maybe he works for Rita!"

Evil Tommy sure does a bad job at hiding his evil personality. He should at least pretend to not be evil.

I understand that Goldar telling Jason that his morpher might work inside the Dark Dimension was a way of taunting him, but still! By telling him that, that gave Jason a clue as to how he could stand a better chance.

Do all the Rangers have a set of keys for the RADBUG? Or does Billy just always leave the keys inside. If it's the latter, that's not a very wise thing to do.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Goldar is psychotic in this episode!

The four Rangers only summon their zords, yet, the Tyrannosaurus is present for the combination sequences. how could it have been summoned without the Red Ranger? Yet, I gotta admit, summoning the Megazord to face the (human-sized) Green Ranger was a pretty smart move.

Oh, now Goldar purposely drops the morpher. Again, I get that it was to taunt Jason, but now he's given Jason an even better chance since Goldar no longer holds the morpher.

This thread's kinda got me nostalgic for the overall vibe of Power Rangers. Luckily, Linkara(from "That Guy With The Glasses" site) is actually doing a retrospective! Thought it would be welcome if I posted it here:

http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/linkara/hopr

Part 2 actually IS up, but it's on Linkara's site(Atop the Fourth Wall) http://atopfourthwall.blogspot.com/

Don't know when part 3 will be up, but I'm eagerly awaiting it. I'm interested on his thoughts on Masked Rider. I remember watching parts 2 and 3 of the crossover(I will Youtube them up in the next couple days) and thought it was okay, but I only saw a couple eps. of the TV show and wasn't all that impressed back in the day.
