This is pretty nice looking. So far, this is the only one that I think has a better paint scheme than the Classics counterpart (and yes, that includes Megatron)

yes!, i was hoping for the autobot symbol on the hood. they even went with the g1 orange hood which is nice. in regards to the chrome, maybe they did all that on the henkei as a throwback to the 80s when almost all the tformers had chrome. maybe? even though rodimus' spoiler wasn't chrome in the original, i dont think it takes it away in this case.

I think some silver paint will do better rather than chrome parts in some of these Henkei.

That orange block under the chest flames looks good and really ties it to the two Rod G1 toys.
I'm not a big enough Hot Rod fan to it the though, my Hasbro one fits the bill.

i keep coming back to see this. u just can't wait to get myne- only problem though, i'm not a fan of the energon series so i was hoping theyd go all g1 and paint the whole face red to get rid of those yellow wing things on the forhead. at least you can't see it as well with the orange paint.

To be really G1, something must be done to the exposed engine on his chest. The G1 cartoon gave him some nice red collars over his silver neck. Like he's wearing some cloths. Maybe make the engine detachable, and use it as weapon?

The TFCC asked at Botcon if anyone would be interested in buying a weapons pack and what not. I think a good amount of people raised their hand. I think that definitly got them thinking. I mean the Cliffjumper set is still going for crazy amounts and it's just a weapons and head kit (essentially). What I'd definitely love to see is a HotRod Targetmaster Firebolt added. Cyclonus is getting his, I don't see why FP can't do their own kit as well.

Speaking of Cliffjumper, i wonder if Henkei will give him a new head mold.

Let me explain why that won't happen.
All of the parts for a transformer are produced on a single sprue. One big mold is made to accomodate all the parts for the toy.
To create a new head, means making huge alterations to the entire mold.
Little mold changes aren't the simple thing we like to make them out as. If they were, we would see updates all the time when a character gets a new deco.

i don't understand. why do they have to make major changes just for a new head?

Not necessarily major changes in the physical sense to change a head, but enough to make it perhaps more expensive to produce than they would like it to be. If they can get away with not changing it, they will.

Counterpunch is correct - even though it does seem difficult to comprehend that making an additional mold of just the new head would be a significant cost.

Good question. His release date seems to be a bit unclear. eHobby and some of the Japanese Hobby magazines have him slated for a May release. But BBTS and and some other sites have him listed for June.
It is possible that Hotrod got rescheduled for June. But the only other release for May seems to be Battle Mask Bumblebee (Movie toy), which makes May a quiet month.
