Im new here and to the Transformers toy collecting so i need some help
Im wanting to collect the toys from the Transformers movies but there are so many differnet ones that were realsed im not sure where to start. I want movie accurate ones to go with one another.
Im guessing the deluxe figures are a good place to start but what figures to get for the bigger ones like Megatron and Optimus and others that werent released in the Deluxe line?
and are there any complete checklists for both toy lines?
Thanks!

The voyager Optimus and Megatron figures will go okay with the deluxes.
My personal preference is Takara Leader Buster Prime and all the Human Alliance figures.

First movie or second?
Seriously though, you'll have some trouble getting movie accurate releases of some toys, as the more accurate (and prettier) ones are usually Japanese. Here are my picks for accuracy from the standard lines (Scout, Deluxe, Voyager, Leader):
Autobots
RotF Leader Optimus Prime / Buster Optimus Prime (Japanese)
Movie Premium Bumblebee / RotF Deluxe Bumblebee
RotF Deluxe Ratchet / Movie Voyager Ratchet
RotF Voyager Ironhide (just for the weapons)
Movie Premium Jazz
Shanghai Showdown Ice Cream Truck Skids & Mudflap (Toys 'R Us)
Skids
Mudflap
Sideswipe
Jolt
Wheelie (*gets pelted in marshmallows*)
Decepticons
Movie Premium Leader Megatron (though I'm not a fan of the G1 Transformation sound)
Premium Blackout
Leader Brawl
Bonecrusher
Barricade (regular)
RotF Voyager Starscream / Leader Starscream (upcoming)
RotF Leader Megatron
Sideways
Scalpel
Soundwave
Sea Attack Ravage (upcoming)
Grindor (the only repaint that appeared in the sequel, but as a different model copter)

Deluxe and Voyager pretty much the best versions of most characters if you want to keep them in scale to each other. Deluxe for cars and other smaller vehicles, and voyager for larger vehicles and flying machines.
Scouts are just smaller filler totally off scale with anything else if you go by their alt modes. Some are good fun figures but don't expect scale from them.
Leader Class is usually reserved for... well... Leaders or very important characters and in the absence of Ultra class figures is the only class size to feature Lights and Sounds.
Leader class Only Megatron, Optimus Prime, Jetfire and upcoming Starscream.
Leader Jetfire would technically be in scale with voyager Prime, however he combines with Leader Prime.
However Leader Prime is a little off scale to everybody else, while with Megatron its hard to say since he's an alien design there's no reference to how big he should be, however he does end up a little too big in robot mode if you compare him to his onscreen countepart.
So yeah basically stick to Deluxe and Voyager for the best possible scale between them.
Voyager Starscream is pretty much the only figure to completely loose the scale as he is smaller than even Voyager Prime. He would have benefited more from an Ultra class version than a leader class version scale wise.
If you don't care about scale I think the Human Alliance size features the better looking cars, though of course they are off scale with the other figures.

IMO, Scouts are pretty much a matter of vastly varying personal preference.
As for Leader class figs, you'll definitely want to get yourself an Optimus (preferably the Takara Buster OP or that new OP/Jetfire combo pack), and probably the upcoming Starscream.
For HA, I recommend Bumblebee, 'Cade, and the soon-to-be-released Jazz. Sideswipe is IMO a mixed bag. On the one hand, it's got a killer alt mode, but at the cost of some unsightly back kibble and questionable proportions.

If you want them 'going with each other' in terms of scale then this is way off. Here is my collection which is organised as close to scale as I can figure:
Very Large scale
HA Bumblebee
Scout Knock-out
HA Barricade
Delux Ravage (actually too large but fits here better than anywhere else)
Large Scale
Leader Prime
Voyager Ironhide (Ratchet as well, though I don't have him)
Deluxes: Bumblebee, Sideswipe, Twins, Landmine, Jazz
Leaders: ROTF Megatron, Brawl
Deluxes: Sideways, Barricade
Scout Scorponok
Medium Scale
Voyager Prime
Deluxes: Salvage, Ironhide and Ratchet (although I don't have them)
Trans-scanning Bumblebee
Voyager ROTF Megatron (actually a bit too small)
Voyager Seekers (in robot mode they fit, not jet mode)
Voyager Mixmaster
Delux Stockade
Small Scale
Trans-scanning Prime
Scout Scattorshot
Legends: Jazz, Bumblebee
Voyager 07 Megatron
Voyager Blackout (still too small in helicopter mode)
Voyager Seekers (in jet mode, not robot mode)
Delux Bonecrusher
Scout Ransack
I'm not sure where leader Jetfire fits in Jet mode. Possibly he's in scale with Legends Prime in alt mode.

Size-wise they're inbetween. But when it comes to scale it's like this: the human figures are more in scale with the Deluxes than they are with the HA figures.
