Paint removal?

I just received an MP Prime and Starscream and am less than pleased. I picked them up on eBay and the seller did not mention he had airbrushed both of them. See pics...

My question is what can I use to remove the paint and not remove the factory painted colors? I may rather sell/trade Starscream. He looks pretty good with the detail in his wings but I would rather have one that hasn't been altered.

Prime has a splash of black and silver to the left of his grille and on it. Also around his shoulders and wrists.

Starscream has a large silver streak down his back and around his fins, I assume to produce a weathered look. Also it looks like the previous owner applied a wash to get down into the tooling of the wings to give it a dark outlined look. It does add a lot of detail, I'll give it that. Also an emblem I've never seen (noob) has been applied.

Hate to break it to you, but those are actually factory applied paint apps. That's the Hasbro 20th Anniversary Prime which features those black paints apps as battle damage. The Screamer is the Hasbro Wal-Mart exclusive from a couple of years back, the black is weathering. I've heard both can be removed with rubbing alcohol, but I haven't tried it myself.

I googled hard before posting this but didn't see anything showing a weathered look. So both came that way?!

Yep. Looks like the weathering down the middle of your Screamer is a little more aggressive than mine, but yes it's factory. Personally I like the weathering adds a touch of realism.

Hmm. I'm kind of disappointed that that's the best they could do in a factory. I guess it makes me feel better that I didn't get someones project. Thanks for the info.

No problem, and that symbol on Screamer that you didn't recognize is his crown from the 86 movie, also factory applied.

Wow, when I saw the photo of the crown I thought he was having a laugh!

Yeah, your figures are unaltered and authentic!
