Another great (despite some lighting foibles), very complete, and long review that will be extremely helpful to anybody hemming and hawing over this (these) guy(s).
I had a few of the Seacons as a kid: Nautilator, Tentakil, and (IMO, the coolest) Seawing. Seeing them again brings slight pangs of nostalgia . . . that are quickly smothered by comparing these late-eighties toys with something like Classics Jetfire. The QC issues that peaugh brings up (and have appeared around here as well) aside, I'll steer clear from this set for the same reason the encore line doesn't excite me: these guys really show their age. Some folks are really into that, I know, and this Piranacon will certainly be up their alley (just like it was two years ago). For me, re-re-releasing Piranacon just as Munitioner/Swindle and Explorer/Blast Off become available points out that quality twentyfirst-century gestalts are something that Hasbro really needs to develop. Looking at Piranacon's constituents, the thing that strikes me is how cool their monster modes still look compared to their nearly shapeless weapon and bot modes. With so many more years of experience under their belts now, the Hasbro and Takara design departments could churn out great looing monsters that transformed into great looking bots rather than compromising on one or the other. Maybe a Seacon member needs a Spotlight issue from IDW? Or, better yet, how about a miniseries?

Nostalgia, nostalgia. I preorderd these guys in a flash. I only ever had Nautilator, and still do. Those its missing everything, including his robot arms.
but once thi guy arrives, I'm going to combine him with my old Nautilator, just so I can say I did it.
I actually like the G1 re-issues. and can attest not all have QC issues. My Encore Convoy is a fine testament to re-issue quality.
