Predaking questions

Postby SuhFairleyGG » Wed Oct 12, 2011 3:38 pm

I bought a near complete G1 Predaking last night, and having never seen more than two individual Predacons at a time I'm not completely sure about what I need to complete it. It has the head, both feet and fists, the large arm canon, and 2 swords and black guns. What do I need to complete it?

I also noticed that 2 have metal parts, and 3 do not. Is this normal for G1?

You got all of the combiner parts, but you're missing a few guns and 3 swords. Here's a link to a page with details about the figure, and the figures that comprise him. It even shows the accessories:

G1 Predaking on TFU.info.

The second question is easy to answer. Predaking was released in 1986, a year which saw a transition in materials used. Die cast metal and rubber were phased out in favor of cheaper plastic. The reissues of 2004 and 2010 both had metal parts for all 5 figures.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

Predaking has been released several times, there are die cast versions and plastic versions. Which means you have Predacons from 2 different sets.

Plastic and Diecast. While they are compatible, they do not a complete set make.

As far as accessories, you are missing guns and swords, as each individual predacon has a gun and a sword.

Also Divebomb has his Wings which are removeable. .

Thanks for the link and the info.

@Overcracker: All 5 Predacons are G1. No reissues.

One more question. The Rhino (his name escapes me atm) is one of the plastic ones, and I have a busted metal from when I was a kid, and I plan on frankenstiening the two so I have a decent metal one. My problem is that when I was a kid I stuck the sword in the hole in his back where the grey gun goes and the handle of the sword broke off. Is there any way I can get the handle out so I can frankenstien them?

As Rabbit mentioned there was a metal to plastic transition in G1.

The earlier G1 releases of Predaking where metal the later become plastic.

While they may all be G1 they still belong to different sets or releases of the figures.

With that said, you could try using a wood screw to dig into the sword handle and pull it out.

Ok, I see what you're saying now. Thanks for the help.

As for value (not planing on selling anytime soon, but it helps to know), what is a complete, G1 plastic and metal Predaking worth? All metal? All plastic?

Try ebay. Type Transformers G1 Predaking. Differentiate it from the re-issue.

I own the 2010 reissue.

It comes with :

1 Predaking helmet,
2 Fists
2 Feets
4 Pairs of identical guns (8 in all)
1 Huge gun
6 Swords

Oh, and Divebomb's wings... if you count that as an accessory.

I'm no G1 expert, but my reissue all have die-cast parts.

;) Hope this helps.

Most people want a complete set of whether plastic or diecast, not many will buy a set comprised of both.

With the release of the 2010 re-issue I'm sure prices have come down. Its going to be hard to gauge a price I'd say around 2 or 300 bucks for either complete set.

for a mixture it will come down to how much a buyer wants to pay for it. Take a stroll around Ebay see how much they are going for.

Now I have a question for once. Which do you think is better: plastic or metal? I'm a bit worried about the weight of especially Divebomb and Rampage wreaking havoc on Predaking's shoulder joints.

I've always been a fan of diecast myself.

Considering they were desinged for Diecast parts I'd say diecast is fine. I haven't had any issues with my clunker Predaking from back in the day. Though it is missing quite a few parts.

Nope, the shoulders of Razerclaw are fine... Although his legs are rather loose on my 2010 version. The pin holding both legs to the body is metal, but the shaft is plastic. The plastic seems to have loosed on mine even though i only tranfomed predaking once! And that was from animals in the box - to predaking ... Now he has a range of movement on his legs where its loose and won't click into place when he's standing up straigt

I own a couple Predakings. I purchased the first set when they first came out. They were packaged individually and I purchased all of them at the same time from the Toys R Us the first week they came out. Rampage and Tantrum were die-cast. The rest did not have die-cast. As you guys have already pointed out - that was the year that they transitioned materials; and in this case - right in the middle of the assembly. I disagree that this is not a complete set. That's how they were manufactured and distributed in my region.

I was lucky enough to get that 2004/05 Predaking reissue. He has the die cast parts and I can honestly say I've had no problems with him what so ever.

Though it would be best to have an all die-cast set as the first set circa 1986. But "Plastic" Divebomb and Rampage as the arms gives the set some sort of weight distribution balance as opposed to having the former as die-cast and his legs as all plastic.
