Alternator Molds

Motto: "Life is like a triple-X choose your own adventure..."

So I got my first alternator today and it was everything I'd hoped for and more. The good news, I have more TFs I need to add to the collection. The bad news, I'm late to the game and these things are going for ridiculous prices. So my first order of business will hopefully be to at least acquire one of each mold.

So there's the background info...can someone help guide me to the different molds? I did do a little homework, I just need a few questions answered and some confirmation. Looks to me like there are 12 to 15 different molds. Here's what I came up with...biggest questions in parenthesis:

Acura RSX Prowl
Acura RSX Autobot Camshaft

(are these all the same?)
Chevrolet Corvette C5 Convertible Battle Ravage
Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06 Autobot Tracks
Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06 Swerve

Dodge Ram SRT-10 Optimus Prime
Dodge Ram SRT-10 Nemesis Prime

Dodge Viper Side Swipe
Dodge Viper Dead End
Dodge Viper Sunstreaker

Ford GT Mirage
Ford GT Rodimus

Ford Mustang GT Grimlock
Ford Mustang GT Wheeljack

(This different from the s2000?)
Honda Civic Si Decepticon Rumble

Honda S2000 Decepticharge
Honda S2000 Windcharger

Jaguar XK Ravage

Jeep Wrangler Autobot Hound
Jeep Wrangler Rollbar
Jeep Wrangler Swindle

Mazda RX-8 Meister/Jazz
Mazda RX-8 Shockblast

Scion xB Autobot Skids

(Is there a difference between the 'C' & 'X'?)
Subaru Impreza WRC Smokescreen
Subaru Impreza WRX Silverstreak
Subaru Impreza WRX Ricochet

You pretty much got although someone is gonna come along and point out something...

I just wanted to chime in cause yeah, outside of SideSwipe and SunStreaker, I only got one of each mold.

That is of course except for Rumble and Ravage because Walmart sucks at exclusives!

In retrospect, I wouldn't mind a WheelJack, ShockBlast, and BattleRavage though.

well, some of them are convertible versions.
If you don't care about that, or a different spoiler the they're all the same mold.

At this point, no, I don't care about that. If they transform the same, I'd call them the same. Mainly I want to know if the Honda Civic is different than the s2000? And is the WRC different than the WRX?

Mostly minor differences. Gonna list them from memory, so I may make a mistake of forget something.

NotEnoughKibble wrote:Acura RSX Prowl
Acura RSX Autobot Camshaft

Prowl has a light bar, but that's pretty obvious

(are these all the same?)
Chevrolet Corvette C5 Convertible Battle Ravage
Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06 Autobot Tracks
Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06 Swerve

Different head for all 3. Plus ravage is a convertible.

Dodge Ram SRT-10 Optimus Prime
Dodge Ram SRT-10 Nemesis Prime

Same

Dodge Viper Side Swipe
Dodge Viper Dead End
Dodge Viper Sunstreaker

Side swipe's a convertible, also has a different head and trunk

Ford GT Mirage
Ford GT Rodimus

Slightly different head is all I think

Ford Mustang GT Grimlock
Ford Mustang GT Wheeljack

The head and wheeljack's rear spoiler

(This different from the s2000?)
Honda Civic Si Decepticon Rumble

The civic is completely different from the s2000. Doesn't have hands either, just piledriver's if that's an issue?

Honda S2000 Decepticharge
Honda S2000 Windcharger

D-charge has a different head, has a spoiler and a molded hard top. Windcharger has a molded closed soft top (actually hard plastic). Both come with a molded open soft top as well.

Jaguar XK Ravage

Turns into a cat not a bot.

Jeep Wrangler Autobot Hound
Jeep Wrangler Rollbar
Jeep Wrangler Swindle

Hound has a different head and smaller tires. Other two are the same.

Mazda RX-8 Meister/Jazz
Mazda RX-8 Shockblast

Jazz has 2 hands (Jazz hands :D ). Shockblast has a different spoiler and front bumper.

Scion xB Autobot Skids

A little surprising he never did get an alt repaint.

(Is there a difference between the 'C' & 'X'?)
Subaru Impreza WRC Smokescreen
Subaru Impreza WRX Silverstreak
Subaru Impreza WRX Ricochet

The WRC is the rally version, slightly different roof, hood scoop and bumpers and a larger spoiler. Little different head mold too. Other two whould be the same.

On another note, the Rx-8's and subarus have very similar transformations. They should be a little easier to find too if you only got 1 to start.

Didn't Swindle have a brushbar?

And there wasn't a Skids repaint, or am I thinking Binaltech?

Skids had a repaint into BTA as Broadblast (Blaster). Skids' Alt and BT are different shades of blue.

Knew I'd forget something. Hound's front bumper doesn't have holes for the brush guard either.

Skids is a bit of a weird case. Probably one of the better molds, but it never sold very well. Alot of people seemed to not like the scion and skids wasn't a very popular. Line may have ended up differently if the had released him as blaster over here instead. Add a black jeep as trailbreaker in place of rollbar and that case assortment might not have warmed so many shelves.

Good luck with the hunt NotEnoughKibble. Don't know if the binaltech price might be comparable on some of the harder to find molds? You should consider picking up one or 2

Unless you have a thousand dollars lying around, don't try to go for MISB collecting.
most alts will sell for between $5 and $15 when loose.. except for Swerve.

I've spend close to $3000 to collect all Alts, BT Asterisk and Kiss players, this includes a lot of doubles (I've got 5 Tracks')

I'm not even going to try to get all the Binaltechs as well but my only advise is, don't do it!

Dead End is definitely not a convertible. I think he meant to put that designation in front of Sideswipe, because he's the only Viper 'vert.

The heads of Sunstreaker and Dead End are of the same mold, but have different coloring.

Sideswipe's head is completely different.

Also, for the Acura. Note that there is also a Blue version of BT Prowl. He has no light bar on this variation, nor does he have any police markings. He's commonly referred to as "undercover" Prowl.

Then, there's Wonder Fest Exclusive Black Convoy. You don't want to go there. He's like $500. The die cast version of the SRT-10 Ram. Very rare, I have ignored its existance ... as far as buying TF's anyway ...

Keep the variations coming people. There's always more!

I thought the BT Blue prowl had a lightbar? But from a quick google, looks like I'm wrong. Does look like they only made one lightbar mold, used on Prowl, Alert and Autorooper.

I know we're probably getting into more detail than the OP needs. ;;) But another minor difference to note are different rims. Looking st the alts I have on hand, the vettes, vipers, mustangs and subarus have 2 sets each. Did they change the rims on every mold variation except the jeeps (same rims, different tires)?

I believe that it was forgotten to mention the differences between the two versions of him. The 2nd version has a missile launcher also the bumper was remolded. In the first version, there were 2 Alt and 2 BT each bearing with the numbers 7 & 8.

Alternator Silverstreak has left/right side steering wheel variations. I don't think that there is any general difference in cost.

The right-hand steering on Alt. Silverstreak is very rare. I have mentioned in several threads that I have one and I had to pay double for it. But in terms of Alt. vs. BT Silverstreak, they look identical except for that with the BT has only right-hand steering.
