BotCon 2015 Transformers Exclusives Toy Reveals
Re: BotCon 2015 Transformers Exclusives Toy Reveals
I'm not terribly interested in owning this set but I thoroughly respect and appreciate that they made an entire functional pretender shell for Oilmaster. They could have at least given leg articulation though. Overall I won't be too upset about missing this set, it feels like they're running out of great ideas for BotCon sets a bit.

You know what would be a real easy idea for a future set. A Diaclone themed lineup. They could just do a lot of familiar molds in the pre-Transformer colors as new characters.

If I had any affection for Pretenders I'd probably say that was an impressive feat. I also agree that it's exactly what an exclusive toy should be.
Just doesn't appeal to me. 2/5 figures I want, and since I'm sure they won't be the most sought after, I'll wait for ebay.

You mean like how Hasbro linked Micromasters and Diaclone and a Macross Valkyrie and some random toys from other companies into Transformers in order to better sell the toys in their market?
Actually what youre referring to is just takara buying licenses to use molds for plastic toys. It has nothing to do with fiction. Any fiction the molds had from their pre-takara use was scrapped. A link in toy lines has nothing to do with fiction being linked.

Emerje wrote:Every year Fun Pub does basically the same thing for BotCon, take a bunch of cool molds and repaint them into new and pre-existing characters, and every year there's a small group of people who complain about the current set being the worst set ever like they've never heard of BotCon before. It's actually pretty amusing, it happens like clockwork.
People are also complaining about how incohesive and random this set is. Well then, this set wasn't made for you, otherwise you'd already be well aware of Fun Pubs ongoing storyline and know that this is entirely the point of the set. The figures are supposed to represent characters from different Transformers universes brought together for a common goal. You've got G1, movie, Beast Wars, Shattered Glass, and this unused prototype all forced into one team. If that doesn't excite you then you're not the target buyer.
I'm very excited about Oil Master, not just because it revives an unfinished character and concept, but also because for the first time ever Fun Pub is giving us an entirely new figure that we've never seen before (paired with a repainted Swerve). This is huge news and really throws the doors wide open for what we might see in the future. Nightbird perhaps? Maybe a Shattered Glass Pretender Dirge?
I do think it's a little funny that they went with Hasbro's unused concept rather than one of their many own.

If it nets me a Powered Convoy repaint of the upcoming CW Ultra Magnus I'm going to be ecstatic. .. but I do hope that a repaint that awesome would get to be a retail toy as opposed to an exclusive.

Leader-sized molds are too big for the Club to consider. Only Ultra/Voyager and smaller are used by the Club.

I figured that would have been changed with the elimination of Ultra as a scale and the overall smaller size of Leaders. Oh well. TakaraTomy hopefully will do it then.

It's not really size, it's price. The figures have gotten smaller, but the prices went up, remember those complaints?

Yup.That's why I said "Ultra/Voyager" since the size difference between the two is IMO negligent compared to Deluxe with Voyager.

Considering what they just invested in Oilmaster, I could see them springing for an expensive mold like UM.
Oilmaster reminds me of the Motormaster Pretender Darycon did a while back. I wonder if Botcon could do Pretenders that way. Take and old shell mold from an existing Pretender, give it a new paint job and stick a Legends figure in there.

Ultra class figures tend to be quite bulky, even if not much taller than voyagers.
Really? I have Energon Scorponok, and I think he's much bigger than all of my Ultras. He's definitely more in line with the current Leader releases, in my eyes...

He's much bulkier yes, but he was still classified as a "Command Class" figure, or Energon's Ultra Class analog. Again, we're talking price, not necessarily size

Are you talking about size or price? Or both? IIRC, Ultra class figures during the UT days were anywhere from $22.99 to $29.99., depending on the figure and the store. Voyagers these days cost $24.99, but back then were $16.99 to $19.99. This is all from memory, so I might be wrong. As for size, as I said before, Ultra class figures aren't much taller than voyagers, but they're heftier and sometimes wider. I keep thinking of TFA voyager Optimus standing next to Armada Jetfire or Energon Scorponok. See the size difference? Even if most of it is due to Scorponok's huge claws?JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:He's much bulkier yes, but he was still classified as a "Command Class" figure, or Energon's Ultra Class analog. Actually for the past couple if years, the club has gone on record saying that Diaclone themed exclusives are most likely never going to happen because they worry there isn't enough of a fan base for them, and they'll sell poorly.

I'd still prefer those to the Shattered Glass repaints.
