Brave Max or Fort Max?
- Weapon: Sword
Normally I don't start this type of discussion but I have been rather torn at the moment. I am trying for a complete G1 collection. I have 66 figures to go, but I have not been counting Fort Max as one of them since I have a very mint condition Brave Max (the RID repaint). I have the opportunity to get a C9 Fort Max complete with box and instructions for about $850. I know that is a good deal. I could probably sell the box and instructions for $200, and get another $250 for my Brave Max (I would not keep both). The problem is I really prefer the Brave Max colors. Then there is the whole complete G1 thing.
Is a G1 collection complete with an RID Brave Max? What do you think?

No. Because he's not part of the G1 line.
The mold may have originated in G1, but Brave Max is simply NOT part of G1. Fortress Maximus is.

Re: Brave Max or Fort Max?
Go with what you like, but $850 for Fort Max is a good deal.
Alot of collectors like myself have Brave as a stand in cause when he was released during RID he was more affordable(got mine for $100USD). However he doesn't come with any where near all the extras that Fort Max did.
As a collector, if your that close to finishing the line, I say go for it, cause hell, I've seen Brave sell for alot more than $250 easy.
But then again it's up to you. I take it the Frot Max your looking at is complete. Just getting the guns, swords, and little robots to make Brave complet can easily run you $350.
I myself would trade up, the only reason why I haven't yet(besides spending the initial money) is that I know my Brave Max isnew, and not suffering from storage and play wear.
But who am I kidding, if I had the loot for a complete Fortress Maximus and spent it...
Brave would just be meeting his brother
In terms of choice though, I'd rather have a complete Fort Max though.

I have Brave Maximus and prefer the color scheme of him to Fortress Maximus as well.
I'm perfectly satisfied owning Brave Maximus personally. Got it for $200 MISB about a year & a half ago.

So...
Exactly what does Fortress Maximus have that they left off of Brave Maximus?

Another concern is that I'll shell out the money and sooner or later they may even reissue Fort Max through the Encore line. They used the mold for RID, si it is possible. Plus it is a heavy hitter for collectors and sure to be a popular reissue. Decisions, decisions, decisions...

Or you could keep putting things off until that release which may not even come.
Twenty years pass and suddenly you're presented with the chance of buying a Fort Max for 2-3 times the amount you're paying now.
When Brave Max was first issued I couldn't afford him then (I think he worked out to $200AU). I missed out. Four years or so later I was given the chance to buy him but had to pay $450AU.
Think of it like this as well. You pay now, you have an ORIGINAL figure. Some people take more pride in that than a reissue.
Plus you never know what the knock-off companies are liable to do, you want to wait until the market is flooded with KO's?

Problem is no one bought it last time. I mean no one.
Brave Maximus was a shelf warmer of absolute EPIC proportions, it would be a huge financial risk for Takara to release him in the Encore line IMO after how POORLY the last reissue sold.
I'd be REAL surprised to see Fort Max in the Encore line.

To have a complete G1 collection you have to have the originals. Besides you may regret not having the original Fort Max and it will probably bother you until you get him. Imagine the great feeling you'll have when you get him!

If your Brave Max is minty, and you're happy with it, why bother?
Personally, he'd stand in just fine for me, but I guess it depends on how you feel about it.

Personally I prefer the reissues. My "G1" collection is comprised mainly of reissues. I would take a minty fresh reissue over a used G1 almost every time. I guess the exception would be buying a MISB G1 figure, but I don't won't to pay those kind of prices and I would feel obligated to leave it in the box to keeps it's value. Which defeats the purpose for me, because I take everything out of the box and enjoy it. I would keep the Brave Max.

Can anyone else back that up? It seems to fetch a good aftermarket price now?jarlaquidari wrote:What website is this fortress maximus mib.
You can find one C9 complete at Transformerland.com without the box. The MIB one is through a reliable source and I'd prefer not to revela where until I make a decision.
The other problem is that I have spent over $1K this month alone TFs and other related frivolous stuff. I might just have to wait a bit.

Re: Brave Max or Fort Max?
ive honestly found that completing a fort max off of ebay isnt nearly as hard as it seems, except cerebros costing the most. ive been able to get the main body, gun, and some smaller accessories without spending more than 100 dollars all around. takes a little longer, and its harder to find in better condition, but i think its been worth it. cerebros is just about the only part i really need to complete mine. just a suggestion, but if i had to pick between the too id go with fort max over brave max anyday!

Back it up? Hell, I wouldn't have said it if it wasn't true. In fact it sold SO poorly Takara was literally giving away the unsold stock as lucky draws and what not.
C'mon Japanese Seibertron members, tell this guy how poorly Brave Maximus sold!

I would never be able to call my G1 collection complete if I didn't have an original Fort Max. I like Brave Max but I wouldn't count him as an original.

I think you should stick with Brave Maximus because the colors are so much better than the G1 colors.

Re: Brave Max or Fort Max?
I got Fort Max (boxed) a year or two back. At the time I thought it was insane for me to get it, but I really love having it.
At one time I would have later repaints stand in for figures, but over time I found I'd just really rather have the originals and make the collection somehow more complete or official. It's silly really, and I suggest you do as you please, but for me now I have to have the originals if I'm completing something.

Konnichiwa!
Brave Max sold terribly. Supreme Cheetor type terribly.
Take into account that Transformers were unpopular in Japan at the time, so the number of people who would have bought a Transformer in general was fairly small. Among those people, the number willing to shell out 100 or more USD was smaller. Among THOSE people, the number of people who had enough space for a 55cm tall Transformer was even smaller still. There was a reason that this figure did not shoot up in price until YEARS after it was released. It took that long to get them off the shelves in Japan. They didn't move on CLEARANCE. I've bought three Brave Maximus figures in Japan in the past year. They cost 100, 150, and 350 (sealed in a mint condition box). I also bought a boxed G1 Fort Max for 50 USD. Most Japanese collectors simply do not have the space to dedicate to such a large figure.
The market has changed since 2000, though. Transformers is much more popular. ESPECIALLY the higher-end stuff. MP Megatron, for example, sold rediculously well. Starscream's the exception to that. I don't think that it's outside the realm of possibility to see a 250 USD Fortress Maximus reissue as a Toys R Us Japan exclusive. TakaraTomy knows that they'd have a lot of dealers buy them up to export to the US, Canada, and UK. Chances are, it would be released in fairly small numbers. Probably only 2 or 4 per store.

Thank you! I was beginning to think everyone forgot how poorly Brave Max sold!
I know one forum member on another board saying that stores could not even GIVE Brave Max away.
Some store shelves are probably still warm years later from the left over Brave Max stock!

Nah, once they started selling for around 500 dollars, people started buying them. Now they're long gone from store shelves.

Re: Brave Max or Fort Max?
I was able to get a Fort Max for only $150 by buying pieces induvidualy. Truthfully I think buying a G1 Fort Max would be a waste since you already have a mould of it with a better paint job but that's just me.

Fort Max, because in brave max they do not include some weapons that was in fort max. Brave max was a recolour of fort max and was released in the rid line but sadly it did not include several weapons for the figure.

i won a Brave Max on ebay just yesterday for £200, hes in excellent condition with all parts, and im going to try and track down what parts he didnt come with that fort max did, and personally, i prefer brave max's colours by a mile compared to Fort, saying that, if they released a Fort Max reissue, id buy that too. Its up to you dude, if your that set on getting the full complete G1 set, then i suppose you could go for it, but if it were me, id rather keep the newer, better coloured version of the exact same toy, and just try and pick up those one or two parts your missing.
