Classics Pipes

Postby Boggs6ft7 » Tue Jun 12, 2007 5:31 pm

After getting some Optimus Primes at half off from Target, I decided to do a repaint of him into Pipes. Why Pipes? Why not? I thought about doing Huffer, but went with Pipes instead. I always liked his G1 toy, but it drove me nuts how small he was when he was supposed to be a semi.

I know Prime doesn't transform the same way as the G1 toy and I don't really care. I tried to figure out a way to take the door panels off his arm and make them flip up on the back, but it was going to be a lot more fabrication than I wanted to deal with. However, in keeping with his G1/cartoon form, I make some custom exhaust/blasters for his arm. I tried to find a toy that I could take the exhaust pipes off of, but couldn't find any so I just made some. If you look close, you can see some scribe marks where I tried to make it look like it was vented. I gave up after my lines were not coming our straight, it was also my first time at using a scriber and I need more practice. I gave him a red visor like his toy instead of eyes that are in the show, I just liked the visor better.

I might turn my other prime into Huffer.

The blue is Testors Blue Angel Blue and white is SEM vinyl dye. I dirtied him up a bit after all was said and done.

EDIT: I had the wrong settings on my camera so I took some better pictures of him in bot mode.

That's pretty nice - although he doesn't exactly scream Pipes, he certainly talks about him extensively in polite conversation. A little recommendation, if you're interested, to improve the resemblance. If the faceplate had a flat section at the front (either by adding a little putty, or simply taking a needle file to the pointy edge), it'd make the homage that much more obvious. But he looks pretty cool as is. I actually kind of like that you haven't tried to make him look exactly like G1 - that's not what reformats are about.
