Classics Ultra Magnus (update: Trailer design)
It had to be done, so I decided, I might as well do it. I actually plan on doing this repaint when the Neo-G1 Prime comes out, as well as build a trailer. For now though, enjoy and let me know what you guys think.

As far as white magnus repaints go, I actually like this digibash quite a lot. Maybe its because of the color gradient in the background, but the soft difference between blue to white to silver/gray is nice on that mold, and even though normally I skip the magnus repaint toys, if it actually looked just like that, I might buy it.
till all are one.

yeah, I definately intend to build a trailer that becomes command armor, as well as do the repaint on the toy itself. The real trick will be making it possible for him to tow the thing, not just combine with it, since he doesn?t seem to have a trailer hitch. Given the toy?s apparent transformation (which I am still not quite sure of how it works, and likely won?t until the toy comes out), It will definately be a challenge to figure out a way to make him combine with it.

Well, the original Ultra Magnus (sans trailer) was just a white Optimus Prime with red eyes and turquoise detailing, so it makes sense that a Neo-G1 Ultra Magnus should be as well.

Except that the Classics line avoids being exactly like G1, and is more interesting than G1, because they avoid the bad things like dull color schemes (see Megatron)

Not toon accurate, but it's supposed to be a reimaging anyway.
Good god, I never thought I'd see the day I would ask for Ultra Magnus to have red. -_-;

Wrong. The cab was as much the figure as the trailer since the trailer is nothing but armor for the actual robot. Ultra Magnus was the cab; he was Optimus Prime?s brother (at least according to Dreamwave continuity). The trailer was just his armor.

I bet Magnus was adopted. Seriously, Dreamwave "continuity"? That's not the definitive reference for Ultra Magnus.

I tend to disagree, especially since Dreamwave based their continuity on the original toys, unlike the old cartoon or Marvel comics which pretty well ignored what the toys said about each character. And, considering that the toys showed Ultra Magnus as a white Optimus Prime with a trailer that became battle armor, it isn?t that much of a stretch to say that he and Prime are brothers. RID followed similar logic, and made Magnus and Prime brothers as well. So, yes, I do consider the Dreamwave comics a difinitive reference.

I agree with Ravage's point about Dreamwave. Being a resource and being the definitive resource are not the same thing. I do like the idea that Prime and Magnus are brothers, but it's not a matter of fact in every continuity.

Well, first off, I said a definitive resource, not the difinitive resource. I do, however take it over the old TV series and Marvel comics because of its consistancy with the toys, which both the old Marvel Comics and cartoon lacked. They also lacked any continuity between each other as well. It should also be noted that the sourcebook Transformers: The Ultimate Guide, by Del-Rey held up the Dreamwave continuity as the ?difinitive? G1 continuity. Dreamwave took all of the relevant pieces of lore from the older stories, and combined them with the original information from the toys themselves to create a strong, unified, difinitive TF continuity. The others are just that ?alternate? realities. Also, the fact is that the cartoon never said that Ultra Magnus was not wearing armor, it just never showed him without it on. The only time we see Magnus without his armor in the Dreamwave comic is when the armor was destroyed. Once he had new armor, he was back in it full-time.

With history repeting itself with continus repaints, there are good chances that Hasbro will repaint and sell it as Ultra Magnus. I like what you did but I think there is not enough blue and I would choose a darker blue for contrast and maybe a bit more red and some metallic paint for details.
But hey, it's a digibash!!
I really can't wait to get my hands on these figures(Bumblebee looks good!), and I hope the suggested retail price will be as said...9.99$ to 20$. I have to complaint about Hasbro 'cause I live 50 Km's from the head office* and so far, almost all my TF's are bought on ebay and can't be found in stores here. Even at Walmart.
It's frustrating to have to buy from Hong Kong $$$$ and to see the head office address on box...

Well, without his armor, he?s supposed tp look like a white Optimus Prime. It is completely intentional.

Well, as I said in my first post, I do plan on trying to make a trailer that transforms into command armor for him as well, and that will also be in traditional Ultra Magnus colors. The trick though will be figuring out how to enable him to tow the thing in vehicle mode since he apparently lacks a trailer hitch.

Yes, but you said you disagreed with Ravage's statement, which very clearly said "the definitive resource." So regardless of what specific words you typed, when said you disagreed with Ravage, it could only mean that you felt the opposite way.
I agree that Dreamwave's continuity is as valid as any other Transformers continuity. For me, it's more to do with the fact that it had Hasbro's support, making it as valid as anything else the company puts their stamp of approval on. However, I think overall the Dreamwave G1 series sucked and I'm glad another company has their hands on the license.
Also, I forgot to comment on the picture! It would be super-cool to see that as a Neo Magnus. I'm sure it'll look amazing

Didn't I ask that the Magnus Trailer debate to be dropped in another forum?
Let's concentrate on the art people.

I didn't get the memo.
also, unless we're going for silent appreciation of art, language requires context.
While Tramp has a specific intention to make an exact G1 version, I don't think Classics would go this route in an actual released toy. His context is what he cites, so that's what we've been discussing. It's a perfectly good copy of the G1 color scheme, I just don't find it interesting, and I don't have anything else to say about it, other than it's context.

No, because it has been referensed elswhere as well as being the difinitive continuity, Including the Ultimate Guide to Transformers by Del Rey. IDG is doing a completely new continuity that has nothing to do with any of the other ones preceding it. Not the old TV cartoon, not the movie, not the Marvel comics, nor DreamWave?s. Who knows though, once the whole bankrupcy issue is cleared up, IDG may eventually be able to finish the DreamWave story arcs like i?m sure many fans wish they would.
