Collecting Transformers is an expensive hobby

I average around $1000 a month on toys. I don't collect just Transformers though. I collect Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Marvel Legends, DC Superheroes and anything else that looks interesting.
Don't get me started on DVD's or video games :/

I don't really understand the premis of the topic...
I mean - if by expensive hobby you mean that there are cheaper hobbies - then yes, it is expensive... but there are also more expensive hobbies...
I don't really see the point.
I think if I count up all the money I've spent on Transformers since 2003 (in 2003 my collection was ZERO after a terrible fate befell everything I'd collected up to that point)... then since 2003 I've spend probably something like 5,000 USD...
Not bad for 5 years - that's just a thousand USD a year... not a whole heck of a lot.

hah, wait till you have spent thousands.
you won't recognize until you look and go wow, i have that complete line. that ended up costing me around 750 or so.
it happened to me as i put my roddy alternator on the shelf. 27 bots and cons that cost at least 20 a piece, with the exclusives obviously more it'll add up.
or wait till you spend 300 on one toy

I started collecting in mid july. It's been about 3 weeks and $1200 for me.
I have 2 of just about every movie toy released (legends thru Leader), 5 alternators and 3 Binaltech.
It's quite expensive, but me thinks the worst is over.
Not sure if I'm going to get Ultimate BB yet, deluxe 08 is pretty freaking cool for only 10 bucks!

No, no, it's just starting...More to come as they say, whether it is vintage or movie toy.
Uyyy! I know better than to start collecting vintage stuff. I'll just appreciate what I "had" when I was a kid. Seeing pics of those bring back SOOO many memories.
I would like an MP Megatron though. The G1 Megatron was kinda sucky from what I remember. The MP is exactly what he should have been ... and then some.
MP Prime, eh ... prices are skyrocketing on that one. I'd be happy with the 20th anniv. I already requested that as a gift for xmas. They better get him early!

See I told you. If you get MP Megatron then you need to get MP Starscream, and then you'll want an MP Prime to fight them, and then, you'll want original molds like Soundwave...and it continues...

I now officially hate you

I passed on one online for $700 the other year. With the notoriaty of the gold plastic on that sucker I just can't bring myself to part with the cash without actually seeing the figure. Of course the only example that I've come across boxed and complete (not actually fussed about the box, but it's a good sign) in the UK was at a con and was equivilant to about $1400.
If those pictures in the Encore section of the TomTak website play out and we see a Mega Zarak reissue then ehobby really, REALLY need to do the mould mods and put out Black Zarak.
