Disabling Automorph?

Postby Sylus » Wed Feb 27, 2008 2:53 pm

Is there a way to disable automorph permanently? I'm getting sick of it, only have one movie figure and that's Wreckage because he looks cool and poseable. Problem is his lack of posing caused by automorph, wtf was Hasbro thinking when they did this? I love manually transforming my TFs, there's an art to it, besides this doesn't even do what it's supposed to. So for the love of the allspark please tell me how to disable this slagtasticly, worthless feature.

Are you referring to the shoulder thing, how he "automorphs" when you try to pose his arms? That's just because the joints are tight. You can pose the arms without causing the automorph; you just have to hold his chest in place while you pose the arms.

I can take a few pics of mine and post them later, when I get home, if you'd like.

Most of the figures work on a set of springs and gears to activate the automorph. Theoretically, you could remove just the spring parts and the gears would still rotate.

Kind of like Con. BB's shoulder peices are just gears that rotate back, but Ironhide's chest panels are spring-loaded. The parts should still work without the springs, they may just be more "floppy".

Those springs on Voyager Ironhide are way crummy. I'd rather they lock into place, rather than just hang there. You CAN make them stay put if you place them in a horizontal position, but those chest plates should really be at a jaunty angle like in the movie.

Blackout's automorph is a bit odd also.

Other than that, I have no qualms with the automorph gimmick myself. Quite like it, really. I just wonder if they'll affect the toy's lifespan in some way (i.e. will all those cogs and gears wear down quicker than standard transforming joints)?

wreckage has no springs, only simple gears. theres nothing wrong with his automorph other then it being connected to the shoulders, which causes no problems when displayed. if you break the automorph, then you just have a very loose chest/hood that wont stay in persition while in alt mode.

Anyone else think Hasbro should abandon the automorph technology? I look forward to transforming my figures, this feature just gets in the way. I hope they don't plan on using it in the classics/universe line or on the Animated line.
