One of the greatest joys of having, adding to and maintaining a vintage Transformers collection, or any collection for that matter, is the ability to display it. When collections reach a certain size, it becomes harder and harder to appreciate each individual item that helps make up the glorious whole. There’s nothing like organising a display of Transformers toys, boxed, loose or both, to bring joy to a collector’s heart.

Good article. I'm in the midst of setting up a display area in my basement/man cave, so this gives me some stuff to think about. I already got 3 Ikea Detolfs, and I might pick up one more. The four will be lined up against a short wall with a shelf above them. That will constitute the main display area for my collection. Then I might supplement that with an Ikea Billy bookcase. But I think I will have to stop there.

One thing I realized right away is that there's no way I can display my entire collection at the same time, unless I devote an entire room to it. But like you said, I'm not sure I WANT to be completely surrounded by Transformers when I'm down there watching TV or playing video games. Plus, if we're going to have kids soon, the basement is probably going to become a play room.

It may be time for me to consider a major purge, probably starting with Movie figures. But instead of selling them, maybe I'll just remove them from my COLLECTION but keep them as TOYS. In other words, when nieces and nephews or friends with kids come to visit or my kids come along in a few years, I'll let them play with those.

Four Detolfs sounds like heaven on Earth to me buddy, congratulations!

If the basement becomes a kid's playroom, you have the same dilemma as me. Store the TFs again? move the Detolfs to somewhere less optimum location or install locks?
