That 1701 looks too close in appearance to the refit 1701/1701-A from the first six movies. And that command bridge doesn't look like the bridge from either "The Cage" or "Where No Man Has Gone Before."
I know, I'm being picky, and it's hard to make something look "retro" with today's tech. Still, if Next Gen could do it in "Relics," DS9 in "Trials and Tribbilations," and Enterprise in "In a Mirror Darkly," I think a major studio could have pulled it off.

Re: First Official Pics From Abrams' Star Trek
JJ Abrams wasn't a huge fan of the original Star Trek TV series as a kid, but he does have one unabashed gee-whiz Star Trek memory: watching the first feature film (1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture) and marveling over the big reveal of the Enterprise during a long sequence in which James T. Kirk takes a slow-boat tour around the iconic starship. "The coolest thing about it—maybe the coolest thing in the movie—was when you flew around the ship, you could see all the different panels that made up the ship," says the director of the forthcoming Trek reboot, slated for a May 8, 2009 release. "It was the first time I had ever seen that level of attention, that love of detail, given to the tangible, practical reality of the ship."
Here, in this exclusive first look at Abrams' take on the Enterprise, you not only see his vision of the ship, but his attempt to evoke that sequence from the first film that so captured his imagination. If you're thinking, "Wow! It looks the way the Enterprise has always looked"—well look at the big Spock brain on you! Abrams wanted to take the original TV series Enterprise and the movie franchise Enterprise and fuse them together into a new yet familiar Enterprise. His ambition was a ship that felt very realistic, that could "stand up" to today's f/x standards—and beyond. "If you're going to do Star Trek there are many things you cannot change. The Enterprise is a visual touchstone for so many people. So if you're going to do the Enterprise, it better look like the Enterprise, because otherwise, what are you doing?"
Fans and other interested parties will get more looks at the new Enterprise when the first trailer arrives this Friday, attached to Quantum of Solace.
He wanted to combine both the origional tv series and movie Enterprises together
Hey we now know when the first trailer is out

This isn't your granddaddy's enterprise people, this is a complete reboot of the series, so its a new Enterprise.
Personally, I think its looks awesome. Second only to the Sovereign class.

It's decent but I think those warp nascels are a big detractor. They're so big.

One of the comments in that news post said it lacked the elegance of the original Enterprise.
I'm not sure if he really mean simplicity, because I wouldn't call the NC-1701 elegant. That Enterprise from the Abrams movie, that is elegant, with all of it's curves. I like it, too. But then, I'm no Trekkie.

And to be perfectly honest, and Imperial class Star Destroyer, hell, a Victory class Star Destroyer would still kick the **** out of the Enterprise.

I thought they *weren't* rebooting the series, that this was just a prequel.

No, JJ stated several times that this will be a new continuty, heavily reflecting the old.
He also said that he made this movie for people who like movies, not Star Trek fans.

A Borg cube, maybe. But remember, the Star Wars Galaxy has had access to Hyperdrive for well over 25,000 years (And with the ambiguous "long time ago" it's hard to place that alongside when Star Trek takes place), and had interstellar travel for thousands of years before that. I'd say they've had ample time to perfect their ability to kill things in space.

Done it right? Do you mean cardboard sets and cheesy acting? Is that somehow better than the Sci-fi epic this is turning out to be?

The Trailer looks pretty good, however: I'm still not feeling Quinto (Hero's Sylar) as Spock. He's just not giving off that, logical, and unshakable Nimoy vibe.
That short scene, just did not reflect Spock.
Anyway, I'll probably still see the movie, but I don't have to like Quinto

Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

An expansion of the full trailer, this time including Leonard Nimoy as the elderly Spock.

It also occured to me, and I'd have to see the full movie to be sure, but this could be the first Star Trek film *not* to feature the Klingons in some manner (in II, they were the aggressors in Saavik's training simulation, and Worf was in all the TNG films).
