Ironhide head removal
Anyone tried removing his head? I took a screw out under it, where he rotates up, but that didn't do it as it wouldn't completely come apart.
I'm trying to do a few custom things to him and see if I can't get his eyes working better while I'm there.

I like the idea that someone is looking into this...though i dont see how anything is really fixable about the eyes, cause its the color of the light piping itself thats preventing light from going through. Even if you were to get it open, where would you find light piping the right size and color for him?

I'm thinking about putting a LED in his head. lol.
But still, just to even paint him some, I need to get the head off.

Its been agreed, the eyes are not painted over, The Plastic used for the eyes is just to opaque.
I can get it to pipe light, with as small key chain flashlight to the back of the head. If the eyes were painted nothing would show through.
Light Piping:

As for Removing the head, I'll have to look at my Ironhide, and maybe i can give you some advice later.

He means the actual plastic is to dark to allow the low level of light normal light piping does.
I have removed the head. You just remove the screw completely and the head comes off. However once you do it is glued together. So even removing it I haven't found any logical way to get into the head with out damaging it.

I mean the plastic the eyes are made of is too opaque. (Not translucent enough), to let anything but a very bright light source through.

I got it off, it's kind of a pain though. I had to loosen the hinge screw and kinda pry him apart enough to flip the head farther back to expose the screw in the base of the head.
I got the light piping out just fine. It might have had a very light touch of glue in it, or it might have just been in there with pressure. No damage. But getting it out, you can tell there is some paint over the eyes. I even scraped them with a blade and got black paint off them. Even after that, he doesn't light up well. So I might try a few things and see what happens.
Edit: Adding a pic. Cell phone pic, sorry if it's grainy.

I wouldn't bother. I put some thinner on and rubbed it around, and while it did make it look better outside his head, it's the same looking in his head. But I can hold him up to a strong light and actually get blue eyes now, where before even with a little led keychain he didn't glow.
I'm thinking he has a lot of empty space in his head, and maybe it's possible to squeeze a little led in there with a tiny watch battery or hearing aide battery. hmm.

Does anyone know where to get little LED lights, cause they would look sick with light glowing behind them, especially Brawl IMO. His eyes lit up are evil.

I checked Radioshack.com and they had some 3mm LED's that I might go check out. I figure put one inside his head and it would hopefully be bright enough to pipe through his eyes. I'll investigate.
My only other idea is to set his eyes out in the sun for a few weeks and see if the color of the plastic fades.

Probably will have to rig something with a watch battery, with my luck, I will find a way to melt my figures and burn the house down in the process. I will check Radio Shack while on my search for Bumblebee tomorrow, although I think they have moved away from stocking their "useful junk" there.
