Josh, thanks for the updates. This is terrible. I hope the secondary quake prediction turns out to be wrong.
The land occupancy thing, if true, is a horrible idea. Why encourage people to put themselves at risk?
I can only hope they manage to contain the nuclear mess. After all the devastation that's occurred from the natural disaster it would be a tragic irony for what could be the worst of it to come from something man-made.

Your welcome, I try to keep as many updates posted as possible being this tragedy is the worst to hit the Nation of Japan in its history since WW2. Also, here's another update on the situation regarding the reactors in Fukushima.
Link:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/as_japan_earthquake
To date, there have been three explosions, a sizable radiation leak (4 times what's considered safe levels for this facility) a 12 mile evac initiated, and 190 people already exposed to radiation contamination. There is also a warning out to the people of this region to stay indoors, and seal up any opening, as well as turning off vents to prevent particle contamination.
The Prime Minister, Naoto Kan, released a statement that radiation has and may continue to leak out in the days to come.
I do want to thank you guys for your support, and "Seibertron" himself for posting up the story of the child whom was saved from the quake rubble. I shared it with a friend thats with me over in the West Coast in Cali, she was very thankfull being for all of us on the west coast, this has all been very emotionally taxing. Hopefully in the days to come more stories like this will arise as we see tht in the face of death and devastation, life prevails.
My prayers are with all of the people effected by this event,
~Josh

So on top of a cyclone and floods, we apparently just had a 4.0 earthquake off the coast of north east Australia.

Oh, This just keeps getting better and better. (In a bad way)
What's gonna be next?
Is Australia at least free from the fire by now?

This is truly terrible. First earthquake, then flaming tsunamis, and now threat o nuclear meltdown. My thoughts and prayers got out to the battered and bruised people of japan.

So the workers at one of the nuclear plants have abandoned the plant now?

This is crazy.
I'm watching CNN's coverage of "Disaster in Japan" (as they're calling it now) ... swear it looks like Sanjay Gupta and Anderson Cooper keep looking at each other like "what the f^(# are we doing here?", especially after that last cut to commercial break.

Hey burn, I'm glad your alright, I know ther'es been alot of earthquakes going on in Australia, as well as New Zealand (Christchurch) and now there's a looming threat of full nuclear meltdown.
As Seibertron reported, workers did have to abandon one of the facilities due to spiking radiation levles, and there seems to be alot of missinformation as to how severe the situation is as this link will explain:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/wl_nm/us_japan_quake
Even the Prime Minister of Japan sent out rebuke to the officals regarding the plant crisis. In response to this, alot of people here in the Pacific Coast have begun purchasing Potassium Iodide, which coats the thyroid gland and protects it from radiation posioning. The scare is soo bad here that alot of stores simply don't have it on their shelves anymore from demand.
However for those thinking of doing this, be aware that over use of Iodide tablets when not in a nuclear situation, can lead to failure of the thyroid gland. It's recommended that a person shouldn't take more then one tablet a day, for two weeks as maX.
For those looking for Iodide but can't find it, natural food sources available are Kelp, Low Fat Yogurt, and 2% Cows Milk. Quantities needed to equal 1 tablet would be alot however, meaning thats all your having for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Areas suspected to be hit first if the radiation situation worsens (Which it has with trace radiation levels leaking into Tokyo) are Oregon and Northern California as well as Canada.
As for myself, I'm staying as calm as I can for the moment. If there is a radiation scare I will personally be heading out east. I wouldn't find it wise to hunker down and sit this type of situation out, though those with no choice would be recommended to seal up air spaces in their living places and keep ventalation to a minimum. Also rain would be a factor in that it would be raining nuclear particles from within the air. Alright guys, for those of you who are all in this same situation, you have my prayers and support. Stay safe guys.

I found this video about a dog who refused to leave the side of his injured friend.

The dogs were taken to the vet later, and both turned out okay. It's moving how loyal animals can be.

Being in the nuclear industry, I prefer to get my new about the situation with the reactors here. I currently work at Cooper Nuclear Station in Nebraska. The plant I work at is basically the exact same as the ones that are in trouble over in Japan. Its a slightly different core, but same containment structure, with probably a bit more upgrades to it. I prefer the NEI site since the mainstream media tends to sensationalize the situation.

Alright, things are going pretty fast right now.
The latest on the nuclear plight is pretty bad, as of now a last ditch effort was made with led armored military helicopters to dump sea water into the reactors to prevent a melt down, even so, radiation levels were still too high for the effort to continue and has since been abandoned. I should note the air traffic over Fukashima has been closed.
Again, there has been many conflicting reports as to the severity of the situation...but as of now America, Australia, and France have urged any citizens in Japan to leave now. The US even sent aircraft I believe to assist in the evac of it's citizens.
For more details, there's this link here:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/sc_nm/us_nuclear_usa
However as of now there are radiation detectors being set up in Hawaii in response to fall out winds traveling across the pacific. So with claims of over "sensationalized" reports from the media, our nations actions should speak to a louder tune.
Even so news anchors from the US have also been exposed to radiation while covering the situation in Japan, of them are ABC news anchor Lestor Holt and his crew. They have since left. Also, CNN's correspondent/journalist Sanjay Gupta has reported his geiger meter has risen in it's reading of radioactive material by X4 while in Japan over night.
The United States has since sent over their own specialist to get a clear assesment of the situation. As of now there have been three Hydrogen explosions in the Fukashima Dai Ichi Plant, here's video of the first explosion:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHfR_wybvw0
And times that by 3. Also, here are areal before and after pictures of the current state of the Nuclear Plant:

After

My computer is acting a little batty, but I just wanted to follow up really quick on the Pacific Coastal situation in the US.
As of now, the winds are not strong enough to blow radioactive material our way..however thats only if things don't get worse. Right now, though, with each passing day things continue to escalate. The forecast right now in terms of wind aren't right to pass the radioactive material that far to reach North America...however there is still the Pacific Jet Steam.
To reach the Pacific Jet Stream the radioactive material would have to rise to an elevation of 30,000ft, right now the prediction is only an estimated 2000 ft for the current amount of radioactive material released. however I believe this is an estimate made from later reports, which are conflictive. The US is waiting on their own specialist to give a more accurate report of how much "hot" material is currently being spewed from teh Dai Ichi reactors and how this will determine what may or may not reach Hawaii and the North American Pacific Coast.
If radioactive material does travel our way, Hawaii is first to be hit by the end of Thurs, with the Pacific Coastline of California and Oregon following on Friday. Currently, I'm awaiting news on the situation. Again all those effected by this, you all continue to havemy support and prayers.

As of now, radioactive material will reach the US coast by this weekend. Here is a link from the New York Times as to how the plume may react hence sending radioactive material to the Pacific Coast line:
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011 ... ast&st=cse
As of now, Hawaii is on radiation watch. President Obama released a statement confirming radioactive material would be on the US shore, but assured people that it "shouldn't" be harmful
Numerous and numerous nuclear specialist have since been interviewed, all they could really say however was...."Well, it shouldn't be too bad..but I honestly don't know." As for now we have radiation monitors set up long the Californian coast line to monitor the situation, in fact I can walk over to the one set up in Santa Monica as we speak. Everything will be determined on both the weather and the situation in Dai Ichi.
As for the Plant Crisis, it is noted to be one of the worst nuclear desasters now since Chernobyl, one level shy of a class 7 situation, or a full meltdown as Chernobyl was. The current worries with Dai Ichi are both a cracked reactor housing core and exposed spent fuel rods still hot with radiation. The facility itself is completely lost, since introducing sea water the mechanisms themselves inside the reactors have since begun to deteriorate. A last ditch effort to re-establish power to one of the four troubled reactors is met with mixed results, and now a Chernobyl class action is being weighed and discussed. For those of you who may remember, Chernobyl was buried under tons of sand a boronic acid and concerete to bury and contain the radioactive material released when the plant reached melt down. This initiative is being discussed, however one last ditch effort to cool the rods and the reactor before this is implemented is being explored to keep the melt down to a minimum. Radiation levels were said to have droped slightly this past thurs, which may have opened up a window to get riot control hoses and Chinook copters back in there and continue spraying water onto the worst of the reactors, a moving target among units 1-4 as each day passes.
Alright, this may be my last post for a while till the situation in California plays out. I'll try to post one last time before this weekend tomorrow, hopefully I'll have some better news. My prayers again to everyone.

You will receive more radiation from the sun than this "radioactive" cloud. Don't even worry about it. And don't take KI tablets as they will do far more harm than good for the minuscule amount of radiation you will receive.

This past Friday was our first day of radiation exposure. The type of isotope hitting us has been identified as Xenon 133, a gamma class radioisotope with a half life of 5.27 days. Washington State was the first to be hit on the Pacific Coast with Sacramento following. Here's the report from one of the only news links I've found which identified what it was thats hitting us here in Cali as I type this.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142 ... 37916.html
Along with this a radiation watch has been set up with the AQMD per this link here:
http://www.aqmd.gov/
However this site is appearently only updated once per day at noon...way to stay on top of things boys. Anyways two other hotlines have been provided to California residents to call concerning the Radiation Plume situation, I will post them here for any angelinos at this site who may want to know.
(916) 341-3947

As far as side effects from long term exposure to Xenon 133, from what I've gathered side effects to the levels hitting us may result in Parathesia, Hyperacusis, Skin Tightening, Difficulty Breathing, Nausea, Swelling, and chest pains. We are also expecting rain fall, which will help clear alot of the material from out of the air.
As far as further developmens from Dai Ichi, things remained about the smae today, but the managing director of the Tokyo Electric Power Company (Akio Homiri) broke down in tears after a press conference admitting things are worse themn what was reported, and the levels or radiation coming out of Dai Ichi are indeed lethal. In response, Japan raised the level of their nuclear situation to level 5, equal to the Three Mile Isle incident here in the US in 1979. We currently have the inccident in Japan raised to level 6, again 7 being the worse case. Alright guys, I'm pretty emotionally beat right now, I'll try to post more info as it comes. Again, I pray things do get better being this inccident now involves more of us as it develops day by day. As always, you all have my prayers.

Natural disaster affecting a community. Dual earthquakes hit the rural region of Myanmar on Thurs morning. Though officially the Union of Myanmar, it is also often known as Burma. I found this here: Double earthquakes hit Union of Myanmar, aka Burma The 2 earthquakes were 6.8 and 4.8 on the Richter scale. The middle of the earthquake was near the border of Thailand and China. Tsunamis aren't very likely, but major damage is. The earthquakes were very shallow, and therefore were felt very strongly on the surface.

Hmmm.. I am trying to determine if you are a spambot or not.. Please respond to this thread so I can be certain.
Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

Re: Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami
So sad to hear the news about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
With natural disasters, we cant tell when they are coming, we just have to be prepared when it comes and have faith.
