If I wanted to homage Voltron, I would just get the reissue of the Voltron toy. It's articulated and cartoon accurate. KFC has a few lame repaints planned. Cassettes colored in Dinobot colors is also pretty lame.

I like the idea, I find silly repaints to be fun sometimes.

It would be something I might get just to add a bit of quirkiness to a shelf, but not for $100.

It's hard enough to gather up the cash for one new mold 3rd party toy. Why would anyone want to buy the same 3rd party mold Five times in different colors. This just seems wasteful & the equivelant of throwing your money out the window.

How is it a money grab? If you like Voltron and you want it for that you won't buy just the red Steeljaw or just the green one. And if you don't like Voltron then you won't want the set at all. The only part of the set that's a money grab is the black lion. It should just be SG Steeljaw with SG Steeljaw himself also sold seperately for those of us who just want him.

Its not a money grab. Its just a lame repaint. KFC has teased a lot of them. Skar, dinobots, and voltron. I have no issues with KFC repaints if the original G1 toy was also a repaint. But sometimes I think they try too hard to pass thir molds off as characters that were never cassettes.

Technically youre right if we go back to the G1 days. But when it comes to the homage game 30 years later, I dont consider it wrong to homage a repaint of an old mold with a repaint of its updated mold. But when they start re-imagining non cassette characters as cassettes based on their species it starts getting lame.

I love Voltron and agree that this is a greedy money grab. That's the second best thing KFC does, after producing over priced crap.

Im not disputing the fact that this is a money grab. But how is it greedy ? Its more like stupid if you ask me. If nobody buys them, KFC has themselves to blame. They can milk a cow until it dies, but nobody is forcing you to buy it. Im not sure why people keep calling the black voltron lion SG steeljaw? Isnt that what they have nightstalker for ? They even refer to him as "evil ironpaw". I think you SG fans need to adjust your alternate universe glasses because you are seeing something that is a figment of your imagination. Its voltron dammit, get it right...

Obtaining money from someone without returning anything of real value. Requiring someone to pay a fee out of purely greedy or opportunistic motives.

These are toys you're not obligated to buy. There's not one "real" tape in the entire Voltron set, so I can't see how anyone feels obligated to get the set to get just the one version they like to complete a collection.

BadBat packaged with their Soudwave is a money grab (as far as this hobby goes anyway). If you want just the bat you're obligated to buy SW as well. If you want just Soundwave you're stuck with BadBat. Even if they're packaged together they don't really go together. But this Voltron set is just silly repaints meant to go with SG Ironpaw (which isn't included because KFC seems to misunderstand why anyone would want such a set).

As for the risks of it, apparently stores commission KFC for exclusives. So this store actually commissioned these. Risk to KFC: 0.

I can't say all repaints are money grabs either. There's a degree of cost recouping, sure. But "money grabbing"? No, I don't see it. Not unless it's a set of toys and the only way you can get one original is to buy an unwanted repaint.

Edit:
I mean, we need some perspective here. We 're not obligated to buy this. Not in a "completing our collection" way a DEFINITELY not in a "I require this to survive" way. KFC wouldn't be money grabbing even if they decided to make a pink Steeljaw with polka dots. Unless you feel some sort of compulsion to get a repaint you don't particularly care for it can't be considered money grabbing. Money grabing is a thing; it doesn't mean "making the most of what they have".
