Exactly. I have friends who are huge nerds. They don't all know who Springer is. Geez, some of them probably couldn't tell you which symbol is autobot or decepticon. Though they could tell you what year Frodo's 111th birthday was and stuff like that.

You only need one of them to be, though.

this is funny, finally Lego is trying to get a piece of the big a** pie, Lego should of done the Kre-o stuff from the get go! but I guess it was a risk they were not willing to make... I think the Lego stuff is just built better, don't get me wrong I have some of the Kre-o's but mostly it was just to get the freakin Kreons! haha now we know what Kre-o stands for! KO! for knocking off Lego in a way...

The company making transforming Lego Transformers is Kazi. They seem to be the only one who figured people only want to assemble them once. They made about a dozen new and "homage" characters... and they can transform!

Apart from Optimus, the robot modes of all the others look like they were put together by Stephen Hawking. I do however take your point about building a set piece once then being able to transform it properly.

Eh, if you want transforming toys get the mainline figures. The whole appeal with the brick-built toys is the actual building; that's why Lego's Creationary game and Creator series are popular while "true" transforming sets are practically non-existent.

I disagree. I think engineering a building set that can convert between two (or more) forms without rebuilding it is pretty cool. Back when I was on the Bionicle forums, there was an entire building contest based on that idea. If the idea ever made it to retail, they could include instructions for 2 or 3 different transforming models to keep with the "building" theme of Lego.

Re: Lego ripping off Kre-O?
There seem to be two schools of thought when it comes to success on a Kre-O.
1. Lego oriented fans who want to build each model seperately.
2. Transformer oriented fans, who want to built the set once, but convert it easily between forms once they build the model.
Both sides think the other side is an epic fail for not seeing things their way.

Pretty much.

On the transforming sets, that's a pretty nice rendition of Incinerator, I have to admit, and arguably better than the original, haha.

Re: Lego ripping off Kre-O?
Kre-O could stand to learn a thing or two about joints from Lego.
Also, there's another Creator robot, Thunderwings:

I still don't think they're going for specific TF characters (not in the way the "normal" 3rd Parties are), but they're definitely after Kre-O's robot<->vehicle market. Competition is always a good thing.

Indeed. Hopefully Hasbro will pick up on "Ratchet joints for hips are good."

Re: Lego ripping off Kre-O?
As far as I'm concerned, Kre-o sets are just raw material for kitbashed display environments for my Kreons.
That Lego, though, looks pretty good. Just pop a Kre-o robot head on him, and you'll be set. You could probably paint a Prowl head green and have a convincing Springer.
