Howlong have you been collecting? How many tfs do you have after all that time?
is it worth it? any other thoughts on your collecting career, let's hear it!

counting everything but "master" partners and broken/parts-type tfs
ive got 1,141- collecting since age 5 ('93). it's been a blast! its always fun to get a new tf, read they're specs and info and decide how they're going to fit into my personal tf universe. I like to save the opening for my off days- gives me something to look forward to which makes the work day seem more worth it and go easier!Every single tf i've own has a story behind it, I just can't remember them all, but it's there, i think....

my favorite toy collection so far is classics/generations/universe by far. thanks to hasbro and third parties it's expanding exponentially and getting more diversified
and cooler each day! masterpiece/alternator is not far behind.

my favorite series is tf prime, it combines the story telling and scoring of the live action movies with the breadth of weekly series and a graphic quality that lies somewhere between beast wars and live action- can't wait for the toys! tf prime:episode 23, need i say more?

ah, i love these :) got my first transformer when i was 3 (1996), beast wars fuzor terrorgator. im a teen collector as of now and i have to say for being 17 and no job i think im doing pretty good for having 418 transformers. i customize some from time to time but none i absolutly have a problem with. i believe it unethical to customize really old transformers. i only count the ones that are not broken. i have an only G1 collectors case my dad gave me from when he was a kid, i put most of my broken transformers in there and call it the "grave yard".

i have been picked on, ridiculed, and humiliated for it because most kids in my class grew out of them, and say they are for babies. i spat in their faces and got more and more. while everyone else i knew was blowing up their transformers and tearing them part for fun, which i never could do.

i missed a lot out of the unicron trilogy because i was young and had a lot of other robot interests such as gundam, megaman and zoids. all of which never took off. transformers have always been my main collecting piece.

i dont plan on selling ANY of my transformers because that would go against my little book of morals. each transformer has a story to it and has tons of sentimental value.

when i got more and more into transformers and began to realize i was not the only collector i started to get the morals and standards of my collecting. when the live action movies took off thats when i stared to become some what a completionist, i had to get what i saw on the screen and more.

i have favorites in my collection and my favorite lines have got to bet the classics styled lines (CHURG) although they are my favorite i have waaaay more movie transformers than any other line in my collection.
my favorite transformers series are G1,unicron trilogy, transformers animated, and trasformers prime.
i hardly read any of the comics, never could get into them. not the same as a TV show ;)

check out my collection thread, updated 2/25/13, and i kinda lost count, i have to count them again....

My turn. I have a total of almost 400 TFs from all continuities. They are just singles. Only doubles I have are TF Convoy#1 (circa 1988, my first purchase from my lunch money  ), USA Optimus Prime (1989),Encore Convoy and iPod G1 colors Optimus Prime. Also have 2 UMs (G1). Most of them are concentrated in the G1 era, the rest, RID as in FireConvoy/Omega Convoy, Micron Legend Superpants Convoy with all his upgrades( just the standard color version btw), Superlink, Galaxyforce and a few Animated Takara. Being a bit on the expensive side, I had to pick and choose, some of the Henkei, United and Classics that stood out gets automatically purchased (heck, I had to scrounge for the d@mn Rumble/Frenzy set at a bit of a mark up.)

I kind of skipped on the Movie with the exception of the 1st released version of Leader Optimus Prime.

I'm at present, more on wrapping up the Generation 1 TV series Season 1 and 2 'bots and if possible, the Season 3 too. Wish I can find my grail of G1 Scorponok or that Takara re-issues him in the Encore line.

Oh and Doubledealer, I know what you mean when the other kids made fun of our collections when they started to "outgrow" them. Walked the same path too. :-( Oh how they missed the boat on that............

I only started recently but... meh...

Back in 2007 when i was still collecting lego, almost my whole class was talking about TFs... Well i also heard of it at that time, but dint really give a damn to it... So finally i went to watch the 2007 movie, with NO background knowledge on anything about TFs, except that jazz dies (I dint know who was jazz either  ) ... The movie was great, and there was a TRU beside it... so naturally i went in and bout some TFs

I wanted BB/baricade/ or brawl, but they were all sold out ... so i setted for dreadwing and a ledgends blackout. A week later i found BB at a collector's shop at a mall.

Back then my basis of buying a TF was "shoots missile" The next TF i got was leader prime, and he looked epic. But now looking at buster prime, he kinda look ... like he grew boxier in a night  By my birthday (nov) in 2007, i had collected all the auotobot/decepticon cast that appeared.

Untill mid 2008, i only bought 1 incarnation of a TF through every seris ... Which was why i missed TFA jazz and henkei megs back then and had to buy the expensive Takara one last year ( still yet to get a voy megs). But i only started buying repaints in 2010, when i figured most Tfs on screen looked identical anyways.

I currently have 300+ (maybe?) Tfs. And i dont plan on selling any, as they have loads of sentimental value. Plus, im COLLECTING TFS, not using them as an investment.
All my TFs are also out of box, as leaving Tfs in the box are as good as collecting boxes.

*Oh, and after about a year of patronising that collector's shop, i realised it was ripping me off ... stuff was and IS still overpriced. ;) *

*sorry for the excessive amounts of

My collection is actually quite pathetic when compared to most on here.

I first started collecting back in '85, when I was about seven and when I say collecting, I mean just pestered my parents to buy them for me. My family were fairly poor in the eighties so I didn't get that many original G1 to start with. My Aunt bought me Thrust and Blitzwing, while my parents got me Prime.

That 'phase' of my collecting finish around 1992, when I was turning fourteen. School was starting to get serious (G.C.S.E's) and society dictated that I start to 'grow up' so I stopped. However by then, I had collected a few nice pieces such as Countdown, Quick Switch and Overlord. I think the very last TF I bought was a '92 Euro classics Wheeljack. Anyway to cut a long story short, my entire collection was sorted, the 'rubbish' being dumped, then the rest boxed and finally put into my parents attic were it still remains to this day.

I started collecting again in 2003 when I was introduced to eBay by a mate. This second phase of my collection co-in-sided with me getting dumped by my then girlfriend, so to cheer myself up I bought a reissue MISB Prime, swiftly followed reissue Starscream and Megs (who I never owned as a kid). Well, needless to say I was hooked all over again. Now my collection is very slowly growing, I only ever collect G1 because of the emotional attachment, and I usually only get re-issues, because 1) they're cheaper and 2) I like the fact that I'm the first person to touch them fresh out the box. I think must have around 100 TFs, most are reissues, as I said, however I do have some original MIB/MISB/MOSC stuff as well. Although, with that said, my collection is still being stored at my parents house, as I don't have the space here  .

If anyone is interested here's a link...

I have about 300 transformers in my collection. I had them when I was younger, but not very many of them. When the live action movie came out I picked up a Classics Ramjet and I was hooked again. I am a G1 collector. I have a bunch of G1 toys, I am about 2 figures away from having my Classics collection completed (until they release more). I also have some movie stuff, animated, and Alternators/Binaltech.
Check out my collection!

you da' man Doubledealer93. it says alot more about a person when they have the courage to like and live as they will in spite of what everyone else says is "normal" or "cool" than it says about a person when they just go with the flow even if they were meant to flow the other direction! I mean i have a room full of transformers and i was a band geek with long hair that knew big words and what they meant. I know what you're saying!!!!!

Those same people probably don't even know what I mean when I say terms such as "normal" and "cool" are relative. But transfans, having developed their mental powers to the peak of human potential through years of reconfiguring a 4 dimensional object into a another 4 dimensional object and careful and intricate planning of autobot and/or decepticon attack strategies, can, in fact, comprehend my meaning.

I've been collecting 25 years this very month. My mother got me Outback on a trip from London with Powerglide and Pipes for my brothers. I also started collecting the UK comic. Saw the cover of 79 with the New leaders Galvatron and Ultra Magnus and had to know what happened Prime and Megatron. Was hooked there and then.

Stopped in 92 when I was 16. Felt I was too old for toys and more importantly the comic stopped. Pity because the last year or so had Furmans's best work, his US stuff. I held onto all my TF's, 200 of the at the time. My brothers and friends outgrew them before me and gave theirs to me.

Picked up the G2 Uk comics and enjyed them but they were short lived.

2002, I moved to Dublin. Dreamwave and the Reissues hauled me back in. I do remember a beautiful Sat afternoon where I saw G1 reissue Megatron for 110euro. i'd picked up Prowl, Sixshot and a few cheaper ones before but couldn't justify spending 110euro on a toy. Rang my younger brother to see what he thought. I may be the oldest but my younger brothers are far more mature than me. He reassured me saying it was my money. Sad I know!

Anywho, history was made and after 18 years, I had a G1 Megatron. Given the bad press and poor photos I'd seen, he pleasantly surprised me with his bot mode. He's on a wardrobe looking down at me as I type this. Along with oversized KO Bruticus, he's the pride of my collection. Not bad considering I have over 900 of them.

2 days later, I walked into the comic shop to hear the soundtrack to TF:TM. Asked the chap behind teh counter if they were selling it. They weren't but he told me where I could get it. After 17 years, I finally got the soundtrack. Not a bad couple of days there eh? 2 grails in 2 days.

Still collecting. Just got Junior Chromedome and can't believe how much I like it. I miss the Marvel and Dreamwave comics and I buy a lot less of the modern toys due to the plethora of non G1 aesthetics of recent years that don't appeal to me and the deluxe cars I feel look silly with the Diaclones. still money savded. I look forward to another quarter of a century with my collection of Cybertronian refugees.

I've been collecting since 1984. So 27 years for me. :D As for number of Transformers... no clue. It's worth it. Other thoughts? Don't keep 'em boxed up. Take your toys out and play with them.
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

ebay  verrrrrrrrry bad influence!

Btw, already an impossibility but if I could turn back time when flea markets sold TFs at a not highway robbery price like today.

Those were the days (1993)when I could scrounge about and score a Predacon Hasbro metal version team (all 5) at US$ 25.00 based on todays exchange rates.

Now,you'd be lucky to find a loose but near mint condition below US$25.00 (btw, scored via ebay a FireConvoy at that same circumstance at ebay...........crappy box, a bit faded chrome(his chest panel) but super tight joints and complete! :x

ha ha reminds me of a response i left for another post in the forums. The question was why would you want to open a transformer when you could keep it mint?

i responded "because i find it hard to transform my transformers when they're in the box."
