Moving woes and display questions. Pics added!

Wassup fellow fanatics!

So, I'm guessing some poor bored soul might have noticed I've been MIA the last 6 weeks. I've been really busy with the end of my semester, work and moving.

So here I am, sitting in my new room, with all my new shelving up.

Good grief, theres a lot of TFs lieing around and I have discovered that it is a lot easier to shelve TFs one at a time when you buy them, rather than shelve hundreds at a time. In what order do they go, how do I pose them, what series/generation on what shelf, yadda yadda yadda.

I though this would be fun, but I am so totally overwhelemed that all I can do is just stare at eveything around me.

Nice opportunity to spring clean though. I managed to identify a couple of totes full of stuff that don't really care for. Goodbye PVC collection! ;-)

So yeah, I figured I would share my moving woes. On a brighter note, I got all my Classics and most of my BTs shelved, and they are looking very spiffy. G1 is causing me the biggest issue. I am torn as to whether to display in bot or alt mode. On the one hand, bot mode is very traditional and how I have always done things. However, with the Classics and Classics 2 to soon arrive, G1 bot modes don't look so good to me anymore. Rather, it is their toon accurate alt modes that look quite brilliant.

Reckon it is time to make the change to displaying G1s in alt mode?

I'm in the same boat, only I can not wait to move.

I will finally get my collection back up on display.

Enjoy the process of setting things up, when it's done you can really take some pride in your collection and the presentation.

I always like the idea of doing a display chronologically, by series to show the development of the brand.

It gives an easy to follow format for your display.

Any ideas on where to pick up some cheap clear plastic blocks for the back row of the shelves?

I actually use 2x4s.

Unless of course we're talking about glass shelving...

I've moved twice with my collection, and both times it's been about double the size it was when I first set up. It's definitely a daunting task, moreso the putting away than the setting back up for me.

It's a good chance to reorganize and make it look great! I actually display all the versions of a character together, makes for a unified and interesting display. I'm sure you probably don't limit yourself to certain characters so that may not work for you.

I tend to display most of my G1s in alt mode, they do look better that way next to the Alts and Classics. I'm always constantly transforming things though, keeps it fun. Good luck setting your colletion up again, be sure to post some pics!

I understand what you are going through, Bonger, and welcome back!

Here is my current TF room. It has been a work in progress for a few months now (two years if you count building, sanding, and staining the shelves).

The closet holds lots of LEGO stuff, but pretty much the two columns of tubs are Transformers from Beast Wars to Cybertron, including Botcon sets.

Some days I sit back and think, "Damn, I have a lot of crap." Then I go buy more. 8-}

I should probably stop reading and posting here for a few days and finish this room.

Crazy me! To put my custom shelves into size perspective, I am 6'3" tall.

The shelves are about 7 feet tall, 4 feet wide, and over 2 feet deep. Right now, I have 90% of G1 plus some MPs, Alts, and 2007 movie toys on the shelves.

Oh, and this is one of the very, very few times I have ever posted a picture with me in it on a web site.

I think the most important idea is just to get them on the shelves. My display constantly changes as I play with them. A collection looks much more impressive with them in robot mode - I don't know why. The first time I set all mine out on a table (before I got shelves) it all looked quite pitiful in alt mode and impressive in robot mode.

I'd recommend getting them on shelves and letting the display evolve as you change your mind and experiment.

Thanks for the kind words. I am a total Ikea whore when it comes to my room. Just can't beat their prices for display shelves with doors.

I agree about collections looking more impressive when in robot form. However, I love the alt modes of G1. Getting them up on the shelves is most certainly half the battle. When I go tthem up, I relaized that I do not nearly have enough shelving to accomodate even all of G1....tleast not without packing them in like sardines, which is certainly not a look that I am trying to go for. I'm going to stop at that, as I could chat with someone about my shelving woes for an hour easy, lol.

I had mine grouped by Generation, then type...ie G1 Headmaster Autobots on a shelf. Then I put them all in storage.
