Need to remove gold marker coloring

Postby Bonger » Thu Nov 20, 2008 8:08 am

Hi,

Need some help here. I recently got a big bargain on a very rare piece. The reason for the bargain was that about 3-4% of the body is colored in with a gold marker.

I tried nail polish remover and alochol but those did not work.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to remove scribbles with a gold marker that are about 25 years old? :???:

I think you've tried my favorite tricks, although a I've had to use alcohol and one of those green kitchen scrubbies to get marker off, but it was nowhere near that old.

BTW, what piece is it? I'm very curious!

Yup, alcohol normally works on almost everything. :-( If I don't hear anything new, I'm going to go and get some paint thinner later...maybe that will work.

And you have PM on the other question.

I've never tried it on a TF or on marker, but Mr Clean's Magic Eraser can do wonders. It might be worth a try.

Careful with that paint thinner dude. It melts plastic.

Those things do work wonders! Don't know how they'd work on a figure, but I would think it's worth a try before paint thinner...

Lol...those magic erasers are sweet. I buy them all the time. But, paint thinner on TF=bad. I learned that the hard way many years ago. :P

What's so special about this figure that you don't want to say who it is?

I like to use Purple Power. You can buy it at any auto store and it will eat through any kind of marker without damaging the plastic. Soak the parts for about 30 minutes and check to see if the marker is coming off, if not then leave it in and check regularly at 30 minute intervals. Just be careful to not leave it in the stuff for a month unattended because it will dye the plastic over a course of time that long.

Cool, thanks for the thinner and mr clean tips. I'll grab that today and try it. If not, I'm off to the autostore.
