(I know this is an old comment, but I missed it the first time and wanted to reply to it.)

Actually, I kind of wish Transformers would take itself *more* seriously in some ways.

I'm a big fan of science fiction, both onscreen and literature. I can say that, for a "children's mythos", there actually are several themes/concepts in TF that either are very unique in the sense that they've never really been done, or they still have a lot of life left in them/have a fresh twist to them. Unfortunately, since this *is* intended to be marketed to children, a lot of those interesting angles don't really get explored all that much. Pity.

I still like the new cartoon a lot so far, but... I wouldn't at all mind a "serious" prime-time scifi show take on the TF universe. Although the new movies *do* seem to be trying to approach that angle, and haven't done a half-bad job so far, IMHO.

I wholeheartedly agree! There are quite a few "Rated NC-17 and up" aspects to TF that could be used to make an grown-folks version of TF and I would LOVE to see such a thing someday. They can actually make war what it is meant to be, full of gratuitous violence and general mayhem....Right up MY alley! :) The movie attempted to touch on some of them, but fell short because it is still seen as a "kids show" and a "toy commercial". Pity.
