Price Guide 2001

Postby Dreamchylde » Thu Nov 29, 2007 3:15 am

So here I am going through a couple old boxes of comics, because I found a guy who wants my old Sandman comics, and I come across a couple old Toyfare magazines, in particular the December 2001 issue that has a featured price guide for TransFormers.

So just for giggles I sit down to check out what the 'bots were worth in 2001. Let's just say it was an optic poppin' experience. I'm now very curious to see what prices are now!

Now I haven't actively searched a price guide for awhile (which I realize now I should before I sell my Vertigos) and frankly, I'm not up-to-date on current prices, but I thought this was interesting. And seeing that it is that time of the year, I thought I'd share some of the prices for mint/near mint condition circa 2001(prices are in American dollars):

Autobots: (1984-hasbro)
Bluestreak: 450$
Jazz: 350$
Prowl: 550$
Ratchet (w/red cross on box): 275$
Sideswipe: 250$
Sunstreaker: 325$
Wheeljack: 300$
Optimus Prime (metal plates/gray roller): 350$
(1985-hasbro)
Grimlock: 250$
Swoop: 250$
Jetfire (F-14): 400$
Jetfire (Matsushiro/painted): 600$
Jetfire (Matsushiro/sticker): 500$
(1986-hasbro)
Defensor: 400$

Decepticons: (1984-habro)
Ravage & Rumble: 100$
Skywarp: 200$
Starscream: 275$
Thundercracker: 200$
Soundwave w/Buzzsaw: 225$
Megatron (Walthar P-38 ): 300$
(1985-hasbro)
Devastator: 300$
Shockwave: 250$
(1986)
Menasor: 500$

And thank goodness for screw ups!
Targetmasters:
Hot Rod w/Firebolt (box error): 600$
Hot Rod w/Firebolt (corrected w/ sticker): 750$
Hot Rod w/Firebolt (corrected printed box): 900$
Scourge w/Fracas (box error): 650$
Scourge w/Fracas (corrected box): 1,000$

So I hope this trip down memory lane makes you guys feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

You Gotta Be Kidding Me!?! At Those Prices, I Could Have Sold My Collection And Bought A House..... What Were They Smoking To Figure Those Prices?

I Really Would Like To Know Current Prices At That Rate Myself.
Please Excuse The Way I Type, I Have Been Doing This For So Long, It Would Be Near Impossible To Retrain...

That's what I thought! Now I'm going to go grab a price guide and see what some of my comics are worth. Heck, maybe I'll get lucky and some of our Star Wars stuff will be worth something. :D

yeah I've never put much faith in 'price guides'. There are no set prices anyway. When your selling, it's only worth what someone's willing to pay for it at that particular point in time. It's much more accurate to just watch a few on ebay and see what happens.

Agreed. I saw an Omega Supreme on E-bay for $1300. I don't think it's worth that much, but it will probably still sell.

Well the buy-it-nows don't really count. Many of them will never sell at the prices they've set. The only true guide is the figure that actually sells.

Those prices are for sealed boxes, not loose figures. They are all fetching prices much higher than that now.

That's why it says mint/near mint above. This is about a price guide from December 2001 :)
