I can't find where or if this is being discussed. Surely it is or has been. I got my confirmation in about 10-12 days ago and I need to know if I'm going to get the box set. When I pay $300+ I want the box, not just clear plastic wrapped toys. I understand that getting more made in time for the April 24th show is logistically impossible so does anyone around here know or have heard of plans to get box sets to those that have registered but may have registered post sell out??
The show is still 2 months off so I ask myself how they could have mismanaged the ordering of these sets from the supplier?

Well, if you received an email along the lines of:
This email confirms that we received your BotCon fax.
It does not confirm that you have been processed.
It does not confirm that your forms are error free (if there is a problem, we will contact you).
It does not confirm that we have accepted your requests or have reserved anything for you.
Hard copy confirmations will come in the mail starting at the end of February.
Class and tour confirmations will come via email when your request is processed.
Again, this email is only to let you know we received your fax.
BotCon Staff
...and you didn't screw up the paper work (I still can't believe some people can actually mess that up) you will get a boxed set.
Fun Pub really does not do large runs of the exclusives and they under estimated the demand for the boxed sets this year. The people who make those decisions are human and humans can and do screw up.
At least they are giving people alternative options. The 2005 set is fantastic as well and at a discount even. If the 2005 set isn't for you go for the Energon package and walk away with no figures but a great experience.
The registrations have always been first come, first served. Those who are pissed about not getting a boxed set would have just found something else to be pissed about anyway and maybe next year will register faster!

They didn't mismanage it.
The demand was literally overwhelming.
Funny and true story here. As much as people bitched and said the set was lousy, etc etc etc...there is apparently a not so vocal majority of folks who like the set and are stoked about BotCon.
Yet again another example of Pay now, or PAY later.

That phrase kills me! It's making me consider paying $125+ shipping for the G1 Colored Winterfest Arcee...

I agree I don't know how people manage to screw up the order form. However, if you've ever seen Jay Leno's man on the street segment 'JayWalking' it helps. Some people can't locate Australia on a map. But I digress.
I got a different canned letter, here is mine:
This is to confirm that your registration form has been received and
processed. Unless there is a problem with your payment method, your
hard copy confirmation will come in the mail starting at the end of
February. If there are any problems with your payment, we will call
you.
Also, Primus package holders that are a no show at the convention
will have their packages cancelled and refunds processed less a $25
cancellation fee.
Thank you,
Kristin(Hicks)
The biggest difference is your email says nothing is reserved and mine makes no mention. However with today being the last day of February I guess I can start to look forward to my confirmation. Which then can be assumed my box set is secure
I know people make mistakes/underestimate but it seems to me they leave little to no room in their margin of error. To your credit you acknowledge this. They encounter this same situation every year. They need to increase, especially after the movie, the rate of growth factor in their business model. The factor they are using and have been using is flawed and the movie only makes demand for TF merchandise that much greater.

Mismanagement by definition is not anticipating demand in this case. Fun Pub does a good job of running an otherwise smooth 'con and I give them credit for that. They consistently though mismanage expected demand for pre-reg and have issues year-end and year-out on getting enough toy sets. The Iacon set is also way over priced but thats another topic.
I don't spend much time in various TF boards so I miss the bitching you say occured but I think the set looks great. I must be in that majority.
Believe me I would love to have registered right out of the gate the third week of January but my MORTGAGE payment was a higher priority. Add in the need for new tires and brakes and no matter how I wish I could've budgeted for Botcon in Jan it just wasn't going to happen.

That right there tells you it's been received and processed. You have nothing to worry about.

Well my credit card still hasn't been charged and that concerns me. I appreciate your optimism. I'll keep an eye on my credit card billing, snail and e-mails before I feel as sure as you are for me.
