Should I feel bad that I don't really have any desire to seek out G1's. I know that sounds silly, but is true. When I was a kid a had a load of G1's, but of course I let them all slip away. Now that I have returned to collecting when I look at my collection it's all fairly new stuff. Don't get me wrong I loved my G1's and I've got all of the recent reissues, but I really prefer the newer stuff.

I'm the same way. To me, the newer toys are much better because of the additional detail and articulation. I think it gives them a lot more personality and playability. As cool as G1 was back then, the G1 TFs are just too bricky compared to the newer TFs.

Although, I did make one exception and got the TRU G1 Soundwave reissue.

To each their own. The articulation has certainly gotten better although a lot of the designs are unoriginal in the newer series.

It does get annoying that they constantly just reuse the same designs over and over. I love OP, but he hasn't changed much in 20 years.

Personally, I like the movie designs because they are more original than we've seen in a while IMO.

Everyone has their own personal tastes with the lines. I love my G1 figures but I have some of the other lines (Alt/BT, movie, and some Titanium).

I love G1 myself. But I like the movie line, classics and masterpiece (almost equally) as well.

Really what I meant was I kinda feel like a bad fan because I don't have a burning desire to have G1's.

I bought a select few G1 reissues that I loved back in the day but I've got no desire to start a G1 collection.

Nah, nobody's a bad fan if they don't want G1s. Everyone has their own personal tastes.

I got the G1s I wanted, but I like the Neo-G1s better.

I disagree that the new, cheap plastic stuff Hasbro is phewing out is not the quality of the original G1 line. The G1 line is and will forever be the best of all the lines! I love the real rubber wheels and metal parts!

I was about 13 when G1 came out, and I got a few. Only kept Prime and Grimlock. As recently as a few months ago, I felt like you do- G1 was just a quaint backdrop for all the cool new toys. But lately I'm getting more interested in G1- got a re-issue G1 Jazz, which I love, and I realy like G1 Inferno, and I'm looking for a G1 Starscream to go w/ my movie G1 re-paint, Energon G1 re-paint, and eventually my MP SS G1 style. Then there's Soundwave and Blaster I would like to have, since I grew up in the era of the Walkman and the boom-box. And G1 Ultra Magnus to go w/ my RID UM. It's a slippery slope.

The more I look, the more I like. That's gonna be a problem...

I've always liked the G1 line myself, though I have to admit my main interest in it has to be ground vehicles, so mostly Autobots. Though as I have stated many times I LOVE the Scramble City combiner sets and have been on a mission to get as many of them as I can, as well as Devastator.

Right now I have full sets of the Combaticons, Aieralbots, Stunticons, and Protectobots, soon I will also have the TErrorcons. Though I still need the parts to form Menasor and Defensor.

I have some G1's OP, Megs, Soundwave, Ultra Magnus, a complete set of seekers, and a few minibots. I also have the next wave of encores preordered. Of course I don't collect as an investment, if I wanted to invest my money I would buy stocks or bonds. That's why I take everything out of the box as soon as I get it. In fact that's another thing I have odd feelings about. If I get a figure with a really nice or comemorative box it's almost a burden, I feel compeled to keep the box even though I have no real want or use for it.

G1 is the only toy line that I collect and display in vehicle mode, as I'm not to fond of their bot modes.

Also, I only collect Autobots pretty much. I have a few decepticons (gestalts, Sixshot,).

I don't know why, i think it's a nostalgia thing. I always loved the autobots from an aesthetic point of view, never cared for the cons except for a few. Plus, it would be way to expensive to start collecting all the cons too, considering how much I've spent on G1 autobots!

I like the newer stuff and Beast Wars because, well, they are all different. Beast Wars, movie figs, Animated. The cybertron/rid/armada/whatever stuff never caught my attention because it felt like it was trying to be some modern/juiced up g1 blockyness. If it's gonna be block, it better be G1 is what I think.

G1 isn't even that great of a display piece in my opinion. It's more the fact of "Man, look at all these old school Transformers toys from the cartooN!", while the animated/bw/movie line displays are more like "wow, those guys look great, like from the show!"

I have a bunch of G1s and G2s from when I was younger and I have to say, they are awesome. But, when I buy a new TF, I find that I'm typically happier with the newer stuff because it's a little less familiar and excites me a little more. That said, collect what makes you happy, there are no set rules for your happiness.

I've been getting quite heavily into the new stuff, Movie, classics, real gear, alternators.

But it just doesn't give me quite the same thrill as the handful of G1 toys I recently picked up on ebay. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I really like the weight of the diecast, that it's cold to the touch, the rubber wheels, the chromed plastic, the complex, yet straight forward transformations, the satisfying click of the plastic.

I've heard all the arguments against diecast, and I can certainly see the logic there, but it doesn't change my position. Paint chips just never bothered me that much. Purely on a tactile level, I feel I get a lot more out of many G1 toys.

But G1 is just too expensive these days.

I love Gen 1, its what I grew up with and I do collect them. But only the reissues because the originals are to expensive. I do have an original mirage, wheeljack and shockwave and Im on the market for the dinobots and constructicons but the rest of my G1's will be reissues.

I only collect G1 reissues. But I agree that the toys aren't the best, in terms of aesthetics and poseability. But what do you expect from 20+ yr old molds. I collect G1 mainly because of nostalgia. Having missed out on previous reissues, TakTomy's Encore line is perfect for me. Now I can pick up the ones I use to have and the prices aren't too bad either.

Agreed. The only G1's I'm interested in are the ones I liked but was never able to get as a kid but I'd rather not pay for originals so Encore is great.

i like g1 but i the like the re-issues and they, for the most part, are more desireable to me personally. i was 10 when transformers came out and had pretty much all of them up until fortress maximus came out. i have recently gotten back into them (thanks to the movie) but for the most part have picked up the encore/re-issue versions as they are new, easier to get, and are practically the same as the originals. they are cheaper for the most part as well. plus, as i said, you get a new toy instead of looking forever for a g1 original and paying jacked up prices for one in semi-decent shape. i am really digging the classics line and there are several i like as much as their g1 counterparts. i think jetfire, rodimus, and starscream look great.

I grew up with Beast Wars so G1 had no nostalgia factor for me. Plus, Beast Wars spoiled me with its superb articulation and detail. But I gave G1 a chance when I picked up the TRU reissue Soundwave and suddenly I was hooked. Something about the figure just captured me like TFs hadn't caught me in years.
Sure G1s are bricks. But something about them is just pleasing. you can't help but like them when they are in your hands.
