We are not many here who have G1 toys that survived our childhood. The only G1 TF I ever had as a child were Optimus Prime, the Protectobots, and Apeface. Optimus exploded in a shower of parts, the Protectobots were lost or given away... Only Apeface survived. He was yellowed out and loose. I always found him ugly except his vehicle mode. So, I sold him, completed, for 75$+ship early this year.
We were poor so I never had much. Maybe that's why I'm over-compensating with my collection...
Anyway, this thread is about that G1 figure(s) you found that is was so amazing that you got recently. I mean, ONE YEAR max. A G1 toy from your childhood don't count if you are in you'r 30s like me. Only the recently aquired count so that you may look at them with cold eyes.
You know, even if it's a G1.
Even if it's a brick.
That desing is too awesome.
The robot and altmode are way too cool.
The transformation is very fun.
That G1 toy makes you go "WOW THIS IS AMAZING!"
Not even being spoiled by the recent technology can change our opinion on theses. So, which G1s are they?

Of course, I bought back a G1 Optimus Prime. I had to get the 2009 re-issue. Short smokestack are dinky so I bought the upgrade kid and I modded it. I even bought the Matrix kit for him and it's awesome. But, being a childhood toy, he don't count.
Because I have a Optimus Prime collection, I had to buy God-Ginrai. Of course, I bought a re-issue. And let me tell you, this toy is very awesome. The vehicle mode is epic, and there's so much going on. Robot, engine, base mode, Bomber, super mode, ultimate mode... All the stuff you can do with the thing is ridiculous. Ginrai by himself is wonky looking, but even then, his size impress. The vehicle is awesome looking, the base mode is very nice, and that ultimate mode is the best!
God Ginrai is one of my favorite TF ever. WAY better than any Masterpiece.

I have two more that I'll share later.

When you're right, you're right. I own that thing in three versions, if that means anything to you.
Also; MASTAAAAAAAAAAH-FOHCE!
-edit- I also really really really ridiculously love Firecons.

Re: That G1 toy JUST RECENTLY bought which impressed you so much.
I didn't grow up in the 80's, but I collect G1 whenever I can.
Last May I got G1 Jetfire complete. It's true that he is not Hasbro, but is in fact Bandai, but as far as 80's robot toys are concerned, I think he has the best articulation in the Transformers G1 line. (If we want to nitpick, we'll say he's Takatoku)
The figure also explores some concepts that other figures have never been able to experience at the time. The big ones being the full range of motion and a set of armor. A robot is cool, but a robot with armor is even cooler.
As Counterpunch mentioned in a different thread. There is an aspect of G1 that can't be decribed in words. It must be explored and handled to understand why they are awesome. I'm paraphrasing there, but that's what I got out of it.

Now that I'm back to consciousness, lemme talk about a very impressive G1 I got by "snowball" effect.
There was a unidentified TF for sale on Ebay. It was cheap so I foolishly bid before knowing what it is. Later, I found out that he was Doubledealer... A VERY INCOMPLETE Doubledealer. No accessories at all. Of course, each parts were for sale for more than 40$ each on Ebay.
Crap...
17$ later, I won it. Oh well, time to pay... sigh...
I received a 20$ box-o-crap from a fellow Canadian in the meantime. Along the incomplete and broken TF (plus a very good Gobots) were a Powermaster. But who was that little engine? You guys helped me identify him as Knock, one of Doubledaler's engine!
One or two days later, I got my British Doubledealer. It was in e very good condition with barely some stickers missing. I used Knock on him and I immediately foubd the potencial for awesome. I found a (rusted and no stickers)Doubledealer without Knock on Ebay for 60$ shipped from the UK. The price is steep, but it was the cheapest option to get the missing accessories. I also ordered a 10$ Reprolabel sticker sheet.
Two weeks later, I finally have a complete Doubledealer, Reprolabelled. And let me tell you, this guy is awesome in every ways. Even if his (easely replacable) center-screw is rusted, the bat-engine Scar is full of win. Lots of reviewers are afraid to move knock's arms in fear to break them but mine move just fine. The vehicle mode is very nice looking. The robot mode is very impressive even if he's a brick. The vulture mode is very kick-ass, even with his eavy ass.
All in all, I may have saved around 40$-50$ if I sell my spare naked-and-rusted Doubledealer. Check-out my Ebay items, he's part of a lot. Doubledealer (complete) is a very good looking and fun toy that is well worth the >100$ price he goes nowadays.
Also, in canon, he's a double-crossing mercenary who don't give a **** about factions. How cool is that?
Here, have some pictures:

I also got a complete Pretender Boom-Bust, but I cannot say he impress me. At least, I have a pretender.
For now, there's one more G1 toy that impressed me to no end. I'll talk about it in a few.

I second on Doubledealer. Got mine btw from ebay too from a seller from Puerto Rico almost 6 months ago. He had complete labels and accessories but the screws were rusted as hell( Cosmic rist syndrome from that era I guess
) and the labels were kind of experiencing paper rot/stains.
Aside from that, he is quite an impressive figure for his time. He's as tall as G1 Ultra Magnus and more than a match for God Ginrai. To paraphrase what robofreak / Counterpunch said, G1 engineering for its time was simply indescribable!
P.S.
Just managed to complete the entire USA line of Powermasters with my recent purchase of Getaway.
Autobots
1.Slapdash
2.Joyride
3.Getaway
4.Doubledealer
5.Godginrai( okay he's the Japanese version)
Decepticons
1.Dreadwind
2.Darkwing

This one may surprise you.
I recetly bought the Super Gobots Baron Von Joy. Not only does this guy have the coolest name ever, I was blown away by this vehicle mode.
Diecast, rubber tires, transparent windows all over, lots of little details... What's more it's a very accurate model of a Porshe! It's even written iside! And the breacking lines follow what you'll normally find on a real car.
1983 and we get a vehicle mode found nowadays only in the expensive Binaltech/Alternity lines!

That vehicle even have a weaponized mode!
As for the robot mode... Wow... That's a very retro looking robot. With a fun and easy transformation. Sure, he's a brick, but that robot mode is so ridiculous looking that I cannot help but love the thing.

I love it so much that I oredere some of his brothers: Zeemon, Psycho, Stacks, and if I can find a complete Destroyer for a good price, I'll get it too. I never dreamed I'd like these guys so much!

Nope, Porsche, like Honda and Volkswagen, refused to give Hasbro the license for "war toys". In Binaltech, Jazz is a Mazda RX-8. Hey, that would make Baron von Joy even more special!

I haven't bought a G1 toy in over a year, my latest one was Sky Garry, alongside a Big Volfogg from GaoGaiGar. I still wanna review them, but I lack the necessary equipment.

I really like the Omnibot Overdrive I recently acquired. never had him as a kid, and both his modes are really nice looking and the transformation is more intricate than I had expected. Of course, it helps that he's complete and the joints are still tight.

I didn't meant the brand of the vehicle. I was obviously talking about the level of quality of the vehicle. Perfect paint job, chrome wheels, headlights and mirrors, rubber tires, diecast parts, clear windows showing off interior detailing, labels that even show the brand of the vehicle in intricate details, perfectly in scale with the real thing. You wont get that in your average 15$ deluxe.
Altough the trivia about these companies refusing to lisence their cars to Hasbro is an interesting one.

I have a Knock-Off Micromaster Sixwing on the way, so I'll share that soon, but like Robofreak, I didn't grow up in the 80s, but I am getting together a G1 Collection from what has spawned from my brother's collection.
My G1 Constructicons have been quite good
I mean, I only have Scavenger and Long Haul so far, but they have been impressive. Over time they got loose while playing with them, but I take them with me to the store, to lounge on the couch, and otherwise, whenever I can...

Just got a Squeezeplay with Lokos the other day. I'm pretty stoked on him. Nice and nasty looking.
Yesterday i got a minty Twincast with Flip Sides (although technically not G1) both complete as well. Very happy with those two. Now my PE-ninja that i bought for a Classics Flip Sides has her "G1" incarnation.
Got G1 Springer couple weeks ago. Absolutely love the colours on him. He looks like a piece of candy in car mode.
