Thoughts on the Premium Leaders

Postby Cyberjet #7 » Mon Apr 14, 2008 5:12 pm

Just some thoughts on the Premium Leaders.

Prime: great look, nice metallics on the legs and chest. Very nice G1 sound, nothing chnaged with the horn sound, though.

Megs: nice gun-metal color (PUN INTENDED!). G1 sound again. Could have been more metallic, but I'm glad he doesn't have the blue from before.

Overall, both are definantly worth getting.

Personaly, I don't realy see them being worth spending another $40 each.

Motto: "scream drive faster"
Weapon: Electro-Laser Cannon
I already have both from the first line. No way I'm dishing money out on milked figures.

Weapon: Sword
I sold my original ones on eBay and bought the Premiums. I like them much better. I got about $30 for Prime and $30 for Megatron. Not too bad of a loss, althought I wish I'd have known about the Premium versions long ago.

I simply bought both figures, knowing that I will want the Megatron, and thinking that I might want the Optimus Prime, even though I like the gun better than the sword. I paid $35 each with free shipping on Hasbro web site, so selling the other characters for $30 each I'll be out only $10, IF I keep both figures. Not bad.

Motto: "They wanna play my emotions, but I'm like the ocean-- too calm to get upset by somebody's notion."
Weapon: Concussion Blaster Gun
I don't own either one (yet......),
but here's what I saw when I tried to carefully inspect them at Walmart:

Prime:
More detailed, nicely applied paints. Probably much better than the first version.
The new head sculpt imo is a total letdown... Even if it is more movie accurate, I thought it looked worse, and frankly, kinda stupid.
The sword is also a letdown... Opaque blue plastic was not the way to go. Some semi-transparent plastic should've been used. Even if it were orange-ish, or red-ish, hell even frosted/clear would be better.
Overall, I'd say if you have the first version, you'd be not so smart to get this one.
I personally like Nightwatch better than both of these.

Megatron:
I don't know if the paints are more detailed, but the colors are 100% better (even if they're not totally movie accurate).
This is noticeably better especially on the head/face (which to me is very important).
I actually don't mind that the gray/silver paint is more matte than metallic. I don't think Megs should have a glossy, shiny look anyway.
This stuff alone is imo enough reason to buy him, along with the fact that the first version sucked.
Add on the arm canon gimmick, whether or not it's really that cool,
and this is figure is worth the $40.
Again even though I don't own it yet, I would recommend it.
I look at it this way--
I'm not buying any other premium figs. except Deep Space SS, and maybe Jazz since I never bought him before,
but I'm saving enough $$ that I can justify buying this.

I like both of them.
since i don't have leader megs i think i might just buy this one and sell my voyager megs but i'll have to wait till it gets cheaper.. i still haven't made up my mind if i'm going to buy premium prime since i already have the original version but i might buy him and sell my prime or give it away for free to a friend or something.
