There are lots of great sturdy toys in the cybertron line which you may still be able to find on toy shelves at big retailers. They are generally larger than the classics comparing the same size classes. For example, a cybertron deluxe is usually bigger than a classics deluxe. Downshift and Dirt Boss have neat transformations that a 5 year old could handle.

It's huge, simple, noisy and will not break!

20th Anniversary Prime is listed under the classics line.

You can check it all out in the toy galleries on this very site.

QFT!
You just can't go wrong with the classics.
Although, if your kid loves the big un's, 20th prime sounds like a good bet

Like people have said, either something from the Classics line, or 20th Prime if you don't mind having to transform it for him the first few times. That said, I don't think his transformation is THAT hard. Hell, I had more trouble with Concept Bumblebee than I did with MP Prime.

Oh, and MP/20th Prime is in no way fragile. Hell, you could beat someone to death with the damn thing.

... probably. Ahem.

the encircled are the most fragile parts in this otherwise amazing toy. the dual antennae/lasers feel flimsy enough to break under the slightest pressure, that is why i keep extra care in handling my Jetfire.

definitely not for 5 year olds.

:MAX:

I have both the Jetfire and Dreadwing Mold, and I handle them regularly(that probably doesn't sound right  ). I've let my freind who knows nothing about TF's mess around with it, HE'S 19!!!! If I had a five year old, I'd be more than comfortable giving this to him/her.

That's a good one! I didn't even begin to think of Supreme Starscream. All over the kids table at BotCon.
