Transformers Generations Combiner Wars Discussion Thread
Re: Transformers Generations Combiner Wars Discussion Thread
Of the ones i have, my favourite character would be:
5. Hasbro silverbolt
4. Hasbro big groove
3. Takara nosecone
2. Hasbro slingshot
1. Rook
Honourable mention to takara megaempress, swindle and onslaught for their beautiful paintwork.
Rook is such a great figure, he doesn't get stuck as a combiner. He's reprolabbelef and posed front and centre in a super hero landing.

Any list that doesn't include Alpha Bravo as number 1 is invalid. #PanderingToYouKnowWho
I really had to think about this. Even without kissing up to a certain admin, I have to say that the Alpha Bravo mold is my favorite. I love playing with the chopper separately, he's a satisfying transformation, and he looks good both as an arm and leg. So, here's my list:
5. Skylinx. I like all the torso bots, and the Onslaught/Hotspot mold probably has the cleverest transformation in all modes, but SKYLYNX!! (Plus, he's giving me some kickbacks. No, not money, he dropped off like seven Insecticons...
)
4. Strafe. For this one, I love both Takara's and Hasbro's versions. But, since this is a CW list, I have to go with Hasbro's. This is just such a fun mold to play with in all modes. Plus a wheel attaches to him. A WHEEL!!
3. Rook Swindle. While I love Rook, the "GEEWUNNER" in me cannot in my right mind pick TWO new combiner members. Plus, I don't think I could include someone who wasn't a combiner in G1. What's that you say? Look at my list again? Aw, for the love of hypocracy.... In reality, this mold is another one with clever engineering and a solid, satisfying transformation. Maybe I'll choose Swindle for the awesome integration of a shoulder cannon.
2. Offroad Mold, First Aid. I love the sport utility look of this mold. In fact, I think Ironhide should have been made from this retool instead of Offroad. Then Ironhide would be here instead. But, seriously, this mold is a lot of fun and looks really good. And it might be one of the best integrations of HFG into the alt mode (particularly in Offroad....well, except for Aplha Bravo.
1. Alpha Bravo...enough said.
Honorable mention: Powerglide. He is just so much fun, has a great transformation (once I fixed leg-splitting-syndrome) and makes a really neat looking gun.
This is fun, WJ88. Good luck on the final list (hopefully I haven't missed it already...)

Funny thing is Offroad and Alpha Bravo ended up having far more characterisation than any other stunticon or aerialbot thanks to TFCC, while Blast Off in his CW body finally got some spotlight in IDW.

Yeah, that's really annoying especially when he's a new character that Hasbro didn't re-use the mold in the mainline for without major retooling. That's very impressive for Generations and this design team in particular. His claim to fame in fiction meanwhile is being mistaken for Grotesque.
Makes up for it by easily being one of the best Deluxes though. I think I might like him more than Swindle if only for the peghole fists and the shoulder armour he gives a combiner. All three (including hound) are great though

I've personally asked James Roberts about him since the protectobots were headed back to the Lost Light, so we'll see if anything happens there

Nice observation. I totally didnt think of that since I have Roller, but of course thats not Hasbro. And then I realize that all the new members aside from him were redons for someone more worthy of their mold

Is there another limb bot who wasnt used again with a new head/paintscheme?

Strafe... cant think of anyone else.
The motorbikes arent as extensively different from one another as Rook and the Jeep mold.

I don't read the comics but it would be nice for him to actually get some development beyond "durable tactician dude". Though myself I'm quite fond of the personality the 4chan Transformers community gave to him- an indestructible robotic Judge Dredd.

Protectobot "Cook the Crook" Rook in his natural state- kicking arse.

I agree. Alpha Bravo, well the Helicopter mold in general is all around quite good. The only reason people dislike Alpha is because he's not Slingshot. The Vortex repaint works great, and come on, that G2 Vortex eye searing blue and purple camo cannot be beat.
Blastoff again nothing wrong with the mold, its perfectly fine as Slingsho... errr Quickslinger, and Firefly..t. But yes he's not a shuttle.
Rooks has to be the best new character mold out there and his retools go so far its hard to tell they are retools. Swindle is a fantastic retool, Nosecone is even further modified so he that looks nothing like the base mold.
All in all, I think Rook, Chopper mold, and probably Deadend are the better molds.
With Brawl and Breakdown being bottom of the limb barrel.

If it does happen, Roberts needs to write him like he has a Russian accent (similar to how he writes Getaway with a New Zealand accent). I don't know why, but it would be awesome.Kurona wrote:Oh man, Rook getting characterisation on the Lost Light would be the best thing that could happen to him.

I think it's a combination between a football helmet and a rook chess piece (which makes it kinda look like this).william-james88 wrote:Cobotron wrote:It's the hat, man. I'm tellin' you. Exactly N!
I actually said this a million years ago in this very thread, but I would love to do a custom paint job of Rook decked out in a Cold War era Communist Russia color scheme (mostly red) with a couple of hammer and sickle emblems on him. Especially smack dab in the center of that hat. So what ever is giving you that Russian vibe, is there. Because I feel it too.
No way in Hades I'm digging for that post, but it's in here somewhere.

According to Jesse Wittenrich, the TCC story that featured Alpha Bravo and Offroad was originally going to have Rook in place of Offroad:Autobot N wrote:Poor Rook (my favorite new guy) gets no love, though.Kurona wrote:william-james88 wrote:Autobot N wrote:
All joking aside, I really can't see where you're coming from. I'd rank him as the 5th best mold in the line (4th best DLX)
I think he was looking at characters rather than molds (which wasnt the question, but i still welcome any kind of feedback and discussion).
Funny thing is Offroad and Alpha Bravo ended up having far more characterisation than any other stunticon or aerialbot thanks to TFCC, while Blast Off in his CW body finally got some spotlight in IDW.
Off-Road was originally going to be Rook. And it would have been a different character dynamic with him and Alpha Bravo (Rook the wannabe military guy and Alpha Bravo the more Hippocratic rescuer).
But then it was decided to make Wreckage 1.0 a Con by a clear majority, and everything else fell into place while trying to explain why Off-Road and Alpha Bravo would be on the same planet and working together.

I too get a Russian vibe from Rook's helmet. Never having really watched american football, that reference is completely lost on me. But it still looks like one of those russian hats.

Nice observation. I totally didnt think of that since I have Roller, but of course thats not Hasbro. And then I realize that all the new members aside from him were redons for someone more worthy of their moldBut not Rook.

Is there another limb bot who wasnt used again with a new head/paintscheme?

Strafe... cant think of anyone else.
The motorbikes arent as extensively different from one another as Rook and the Jeep mold.
Yeah, it's weird - he only got refused for Roller and Impactor (and possibly the mystery bonus TFCC figure, we'll see); both exclusives and neither initiated by Hasbro.
I think that happened with both Strafes actually. Trailbreaker has his hand thing? I don't think First Aid got re-used by Hasbro, not counting Botcon custom Ratchet. He totally should have been used for Ironhide though...
