Well, just for the shockwave issue. old one eye basically just surprised them by acting like them, and the fire that detroyed their skin did them in. If not for the interference in the atmosphere, shocks would have probably killed one or two with his 'fight or flight' reaction and then gotten crushed as he ran out of adrenaline so to speak.
as for their portrayel in marvel series i have no comment on what budianski was doing but with furman(issues 50+ america almost all of uk), i think it probably has to do with his love for the character Grimlock. Furman liked to use him a good deal, but its now fun for the reader to just have a super character (hero) around that does nothing but kick ass. and second, he is part of a team, so the other dinobot needed to be there most of the time. This probably is what lead to the dinobots losing or getting beat down so much. Less used super characters like omega supreme didn't have that problem, so they were allowed to win usually. Just a theory, but i think it's probably pretty close.
p.s. What's this about a snarl spotlight? when was that announced, i heard about grimlock but...
