Would you buy new G1 original molds?
What I'm saying is, if Takara was to create new G1 molds that would be inserted in the existing lineup, perfectly respecting the style, articulation, etc. of that era, would you buy them? I think I would. Imagine new Headmasters, Powermasters, triplechangers, etc. I'd kill for that. They could finally do a proper G1 Arcee, maybe even release the G1 Unicron mold while at it... A line aimed at the G1 collectors.

That's what the e-Hobby recolored reissues are for. Besides, such a line would never work with current toy technology.

I'm not talking about recolors, I'm talking about original molds. I'm not sure all fans are always asking for über articulation and killer transformations. The proof : they're still buying G1 reissues and originals by the gallon. It could be just one toy released every 3 months, doesn't need to be an overwhelming line like for the movie...

ARE the e-hobby toys reissues? what about the e-hobby DIACLONE insecticon set? isnt that worth still something in the package because its a diaclone toy? diaclones were the first transformers, the REAl orignals. please tell me its worth something! and how much?Dr. Z wrote:JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:

Ehobby TF's are recolours of reissues already produced by takara. what they've done with the insecticons is taken the TFC reissue and coloured them the same colour as the diaclone insecticons.
so yeah the ehobby diaclone insecticons are G1 reissues that have been repainted to look like diaclones and are not actually diaclone per say. sorry for the bad news bud. (but really is that bad news? i like the insecticon models)
its not original pre 1984 diaclone.

This idea, honestly, would probably bomb, minus full force collectors. It just isn't prctical when we can get toys with elbows and knees.

Most of the G1 molds did not have über articulation and killer transformations.I dont see how new molds done in the original G1 basic design buleprints would fair any better in those features.
Takara did try to release a toyline based on the G1 concept but with better articulation and transformations.....Binatech/Alternators but the price points of the figures regulated the toys to a shelf warmmer status.

Have you seen the G1 Unicron prototype? It's so bad they never released it.
How about more toys in the G2 style? They had great designs and boy could they teach you a thing about neon colours.
People today complain about neon figures, but they don't know what they're missing.

Why would you want them to produce the G1 Unicron mold????I wish they released him back in the 80's but why would you want them to release it now???The Armada version is much better.
Here is the G1 Unicron mold.

I would rather see the Unicron from the Beast Wars neo show

To me ... it sounds like you're talking about the Classics line.
You did say equal articulation though, so that kinda eliminates it.
Technology is just way too superior now. I wouldn't be interested in something like that.
I'd rather have the classics line continue ... FOREVER!!! Or, until they pay homage to every G1 character through the line.

Bad idea, and I collect the originals! Let them be what they are. And the reason the reissues sound well is because they're the originals - my understanding is you are talking about "new" characters but done using the limited toy technology of the 1980s, unsupported by any media and with no real tie-in to the G1 of the 80s?
I have to agree it would bomb.
Interestingly, this proposal comes up fairly regularly with Star Wars figures over at Rebelscum.com. Often, some one says "I wish they'd do all the characters they never got round to in the 1980s, but not using the current figure standard, but sculpt and articulate them as they were done then."
The idea almost unanimously gets a big thumbs down.

They keep re-re-releasing the same old G1 stuff, so why not release an unused mold? I would buy a G1 Unicron well before a reissue Sky Lynx.
And why releasing G1 Unicron would automatically mean not releasing the BW Neo mold? As far as I know, there are like 100 versions of Optimus Prime out there. So 4 Unicrons total wouldn't be too bad.

Why on Earth would you want the original Unicron prototype released? Let the damn thing rest in peace!
Sorry, but you've hit on a really bad idea with this one. Why would anyone want to have new characters made to old standards? It's like asking if anyone wants Xbox 360 titles made that only use 48k of memory.

Because some of us are actually able to appreciate old style mechas.
Plus, people are already buying new characters made to old standards :
-Orion Pax
-Dion
-G2 Magnus
-etc.
So if people buy new characters that are just repaints made with old outdated technology, why wouldn't they buy new characters that would be new molds made with old outdated technology? I would have prefered a real G1 Orion Pax original mold over a Kup redeco.

G2 Magnus is hardly "old technology." That mold has easily stood the test of time, as shown by it being used in RID. And not one of those toys you name is a new character, they were all introduced to us via a cartoon over twenty years ago.
I can't help but feel you're starting to veer towards slight snobbery here. I think most of us can appreciate the original G1 stuff, that doesn't mean we want HasTak to waste time making unposable bricks when they could be producing stuff that are good homages AND made to modern standards.

Hastak is already wasting time producing unposable bricks at this very moment : Cyber Slammers, Cyber Stompers, Fast Action Battlers, Unleashed, blasters, T.E.C.H. and Robot Heroes, most of them being shelf warmers.

No, proving there's no market for that modern useless stuff no one asked for in the first place. There's still huge demand for anything G1 : look at all the reissues and on Ebay. Instead of wasting energy and money on producing that crap, they could invest *some* of it into creating new classics (and new Classics as well). I'm not saying they should stop cranking out modern molds; just to make a little room for something old school. Takara could pursue their line of reissues and create a sub-line of new G1 molds and release like 1 or 2 a year. That's not asking for much and I'm sure they would sell well. Unicron, Arcee, the other non-Sharkticons transforming drones, a real Alpha Trion, Headmasters Prime (why not?), possibilities are endless.

This makes less and less sense the more you explain it. Let's take your suggestion of Arcee as an example. On the one hand, HasTak could produce a modern, posable, show-accurate toy. On the other hand, they could produce sometihng to G1 standards: limited posability and not particularly show accurate. Which do you think most people would want?
Look, I love the old toys. But I'm not crazy enough to think anyone should waste time making new molds to old standards.

I probably will stay out because I have most of the originals along with a couple E-hobby reissues. I do not think that it is entirely necessary to have more than 1 or 2 of the same mold. For instance, do one need a G1 original figure along with a new figure with the same mold?

I don't like to do the whole "I speak for tha majority of fans" bit, but on this one I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you're wrong. Hell, the present toy lines support it. Given the choice between posable, show accurate toys, and simplified bricks, people are buying the modern stuff and leaving the bricks to warm shelves.Dr. Z wrote:Sledge wrote:Let's take your suggestion of Arcee as an example.
