Your Final Thoughts on the Shattered Glass set

Now that BotCon 08 is over and you're at home and have had time to play with them, what do you think of them? What are your most/least favourites?

But before that, he's my countdown of worst to best.

Whisper-I was drawing a blank on what this guys name is. Just goes to show what kind of impression he made on me. Doesn't even have a techspec card. I had to look up his name in the comic.

Rampage-Never been a big fan of minicons. But this one doesn't even have real hands or nothing.

Razorclaw-Looks kinda cool, but his articulation is limited.

Divebomb-OK paint and OK articulation make for a decent figure. Still a minicon though.

Blurr-They could have used a better mold for Blurr, and they know it. The paint job is fantastic, but the mold sucks.

Sideswipe-It's nice that we finally got Universe Drench, but the mold just isn't that great. It is the best of the Armada line, but that's like being the smartest kid in a special ed class.

Ricochet-This where it get's hard. I like the character, and I like the MIC paint scheme. Nothing bad about this figure.

Grimlock-Just like Ricochet, I like the color scheme, though I liked the April Fools character better. I am getting tired of this mold and their refusal to fix the shoulder thing.

Jazz-Would make a great Classics Jazz except for the "Massacre Racing" decals and "angry eyebrows" on the hood.

Goldbug-I love this figure. I'm really amazed how much I ended up liking him.

Megatron-I only have the super-sized Energon Megatron version of this mold. If I had the small version, I'd say it's too similar. It's still extreamely similar. The Galvatron version still reigns supreme as the best version of this mold.

Optimus Prime-I'm still not complete sure they should have battle damaged him, but he's still a great figure.

Rodimus-Evil goatee. Nuff said.

Starscream-I, like many others, wanna see this mold in all 9 Seeker color schemes. But thanks to this repaint, I wanna see him in Roy's and Max's and whatever other Robotech color schemes.

Nightbeat-I made him with my own hands. That makes him my favourite.

Overall, I think there are too many minicons. Take out the minicons, and the 'Cons are seriously out numbered. No wonder they were losing.

I am going to have to say that Shattered Glass is the best set that has been produced. I have been a supporter of this concept and set since it was announced. The molds used are perfect for the characters they are portraying. I am so glad that the final Megatron mold was never leaked. I fell in love with it on first sight. The minicons dont bother me, I have acccepted they will be around forever in the toy line from now on.

The best thing for this set is that it has potential to spawn itself into the community far better than all the others. There are already talks of TFCC exclusives set in this universe. Also, I am sure a deal could be reached with IDW to continue the stories in the Shattered Glass universe. I would buy it.

Last years set was simple, get the remaining seekers and added a couple extra toys to make it look like some thought went into it. Ask anybody what the best thing in 2007 was and they will say Thundercracker, Thrust or Dirge. 2006 was good but limited to what could be done after (Airazor) and 2005 was a decent effort but didn't have the wow factor. None of them have the potential to exist beyond Botcon unlike the 2008 set.

It's true.

I was a serious doubter of the strength of these toys when announced. But wow...let me put it like this for everyone to understand how cool and instantly popular the concept was when people went through their set.

There are like, two panels in the comic, which show Heroic Megatron and his solider Soundwave. Soundwave the white Music Label MP3 player (a previous, lame, online shelf warmer). By Saturday, the convention was sold OUT of white Music Label Soundwave, simply because he was a part of the cast of the set.

Megatron is absolutely raw. The figure is great from the blue transluscent plastic to the remolded head. Sideswipe as a former Autobot Seeker turned dissident,..incredible. That mold has more paint aps and details than...damn.

Prime? Read the comic, he really is fantastically evil. Like, I want to see him get the crap kicked out of him repeatedly by Megatron.

My favorite thing that sold me on the set?

Megatron turning to Starscream in the comic with an upraised fist, "Starscream! You're a genius!" (As opposed to the "Starscream, you're an idiot!" we're all used to...)

I've been buying loose parts to this set all weekend, and I really am impressed with it. PS- looking for Jazz, Grimlock and Riccochet at reasonable prices. Anyhow, I'm impressed, and this so far is an excellent set. The add on figures are on their way, and I really need to see them in person, same with Goldbug, but I like this set a lot. Don't have the 07, but out of my pretty large Botcon figure collection, the 06 set and 05s Deathsaurus are my favorites, but Prime and Starcream from 08 are climbing the ladder. Rumor has it that once I get Rodimus in my hands, my bowels will empty upon my jeans. That would be sweat.

My initial thought on the set was kinda meh. As we saw more and more of the toys online through Botcon, I was starting to come around, but still wasn't on the edge of my seat. The week of the con, I was getting a bit more pumped up just going and getting some new toys, but still not tweeked yet.

Now after reading the comic, and reading all the profile cards, I am in love with this universe. The storyline for this blows away what was done last year. Sparks are called Embers, Cyclonus is colored like HotRod, just funny little easter eggs everywhere. Oh, you even get to see some Go-Bot easter-eggs. What I was really happy about was the end of the comic. It's Not Over!! Yeeeaaaa!! They leave it open and I can see what will kinda happen with the club comic and this Universe. I won't say much more cause it's just speculation. I'm a seeker nut, but to call Goldbug, Rodimus, and Blurr seekers was really cool part of the read. So we now have 08 Seekers. :D Get'em while there hot!!

As for the toys, my favorite is Prime. He is just beautiful in every way. He had the best paint apps IMO. Looks intimidating and he is just such a bad mofo in the comic. I can't say enough good things about this set. My favorite profiles were actually Jazz and Richochet's. I'm hoping FP will keep this line alive through the fandom/club. There is so much potential there that it needs to exist. I cannot just fade to nothing.

You guys might have convinced me to buy the set!

Not for nothing though, the attendee figures have dropped like a rock in price. Although like BotCOn 2006 I suspect the Megatron will be the most valuable (followed by Hot Rod)and will start picking up in a few months.

Man you guys are making me feel like I really missed out! By the time I got my TFCC membership, all they had left was the Descent Into Evil set (which I did order.) I didn't know what I was going to do with a second Deathsaurus, but Shattered Glass is sounding better and better. Damn you guys :P ! Making ealize how much I missed out again!

Let me put it this way. I now own two Music Label Soundwaves. One G1 colored for my Classics and one white one for the Shattered Glass set. A figure that I never wanted before, I now have two of because of the awesomeness of this set and the fiction that goes with it.

An enjoyable set, especially when all the joints work right... (inside joke)...

Love Prime, Rodimus, Megatron, Goldbug, and Starscream.

Sort of like Jazz, Blurr...

Not a big fan of Grimlock repaint. The minicon repaints are pretty, meh, and this is from someone who likes minicons. Ricochet as yet another repaint of the Jolt figure--#5, I believe--left me wishing for a better exclusive.

Still it was nice to see them do something totally out of left field and design things themselves.

I like the seekers better, but this was a nice set too. Probably my second favorite, followed by the Pre-BW figs, and then the 2005 set.
