On January 31, James Avery, famous for his role as Philip Banks on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and well known to many of us as the original voice of the Shredder in the 1980's-90's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon, died of complications from open heart surgery, he was 65.

I used to watch that show all the time, probably saw every episode 5-6 times. He was a good guy. Wasn't he also hired to do voice work for DoTM for a character named Silverbolt, but ended up not being used? Also, that date is wrong. It's either December 31st or January 1st.

Fresh Prince was one of the first sitcoms I watched growing up. I will remember Avery well for this role, and the others he's done.
