Maximum Dinobots #2 Discussion thread (spoilers)
This issue is a continuation of the last issue....
Scorponok continues his Goldfinger impersation while setting the Dinobots looses on Grimlock. (Yup, I used the "i" instead of the "y" since Hunter calls them the Dinobots for the first time in the IDWverse).
Scorponok in classic arch-villian fashion gets arrogant and overconfident and incrementally gives the Dinobots back their high brain functions to the point where he loses control of them and Grimlock talks them down back to normal or whatever is considered normal to the Dinobots.
Scorponok's plan is to create a crisis i.e the cage match in Fallon, blame Skywatch, then save the day with his own Earth based company and therefore replace Skywatch's role.
Meanwhile, Hunter and Sunstreaker head to Scorponok's corporate headquarters instead of Fallon.
The head of Skywatch realizes that there is an outside force that is facilitating their loss of control over Transformers so he heads to a facility to have a talk with a seemingly online but damaged Shockwave.
The most interesting thing in the issue is that some purple Transformer falls out of the sky onto New Zealand (Trypticon?). Also, there a crew of Transformers that are seen mostly in shadow that have found the Dinobot ship The Skyfire and are desperately looking for Grimlock.
I cant make out who they are or if they are Autobot or Decepticon. Someone with a more intimate knowledge of G2 Transformers and shapes of lesser known characters can figure it out.
If anyone can do it the members here can.

Discussion on the IDW boards seems to heavily leaning towards these guys.

Ahh ok. The one in the foreground could be Repugnus.
And that isnt a Transformer falling out of orbit it is a ship landing.

Would the Maximum Dinobots be a direct followup to the Shockwave spotlight?

With some time jumps, yes, but Spotlight:Grimlock is between the two. Maximum Dinobots now is played after the events of Revelation.

Cool Thanks.
I am going through rereading the entire IDW series and trying to put them in order. The spotlights are hard to time though. I forgot Grimlock's.

Scorponok really shined in this episode! He did get arrogant in decreasing control of the Dinobots from 30-50% but it was only because he realized they'd probably cause more of a scene as themselves than as his puppets.
How about the fun back story between Slag and Grimlock? Add that to the pile of Dino/dyno/bots origins stories. It was a fun one though, I hope we get more info on how the rest of them joined up.
Not too big on the dino character art, but loving how they look in robot mode.

I was waiting to see what the difference between dinobots and dynobots are. It looks like I will have to wait a while longer. My LCS cancelled the entire Max Dinobot order. I now have to special order these.
As far as G2 is concerned, I am totally unfamiliar with anything regarding that realm. I mean, Repugnus who? I guess I need to just start looking stuff up on TFWiki. The problem with these is that if you don't recognize the background bots, later they become important and someone inevitably says" so and so bot was in issue blah blah, how come you didn't know that". Sigh If if weren't for reading these threads I would be lost.
Thanks folks, your discussion is appreciated.

Yep, the monsterbots aren't easily recognisable, they are late-G1 and weren't featured in the US stories that much (if they were at all) But I heard they were in the UK stories.

Re: Maximum Dinobots #2 Discussion thread (spoilers)
Some interesting stuff. Nice to see some backstory for the Dinobots revealed.
Do we know how Hot Rod found the Machination headquarters? I know we saw him on one of Scorponok's monitors at the end of last issue but I can't recall how he tracked them down.
Scorponok's getting on my nerves a little. I didn't find his exposition-burp all that convincing.
How did Hunter correct Sunstreaker's spelling of "Dinobots"? Aren't "Dynobots" and "Dinobots" pronounced in the same way? How could Hunter have known Sunstreaker was using the 'y' spelling when they were talking?
I much prefer this to Revelation. It seems less cluttered, less muddled.

They do share the same brain technically.

True but then wouldn't Sunstreaker have followed Hunter's train of thought and used the "Dinobots" spelling? Either way, it's a small point. Hardly the crux of the issue!
I was thinking about Scorponok's plan. If he succeeds and Skywatch loses the government contract because of what happens in Fallon, doesn't that mean that the government would be aware of Transformers? If so, wouldn't the government be more prepared than they appear to be in All Hail Megatron?

If AHM is in continuity then that means The Machination failed.
Judging by some of the comments made by the military in AHM an attempt was made to cover up the evidence of The Machination for sure and probably Skywatch too since they havent been mentioned in AHM.
So you have a case of the right hand of the government not knowing what the left hand was up and by the time the Decepticons attacked the US military werent privy to Sywatch's knowledge of Transformers.
It is very similar to the live action movie and how the Secretary of Defense had no idea what Sector 7 was.

I got the impression that the whole 'dinobot' vs. 'dynobot' exposition was supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek joke more than anything.

Calvatron, yes, I'm sure it was. It's just one of those trivial things I like to discuss on the internet!
MYoung23, good points. I agree, if AHM is in continuity then the Machination has been brought down. Of course, it's not clear how far the Machination got before it was brought down but, you're right, it could easily be that one branch of the government doesn't know what the other is doing.

Re: Maximum Dinobots #2 Discussion thread (spoilers)
It might be safe to assume that the events of Maximum Dinobots includes the fall of the Machination or least Scorponok's plans for Earth fails.
I cant wait to see what Shockwave does. His cold logic may have him conclude that it is in his best interest that Scorponok doesnt succeed.
Also, I wonder if Ultra Magnus shows up. Judging by Jetfire's monologue at the end of Revalation the Autobots eventually find out about the Machination on Earth. Up to this point only Hot Rod, Sunstreaker and Grimlock know. Hot Rod and Sunstreaker have been abandoned due to Prime's order to leave Earth to deal with the Dead Universe and seemingly have no way to contact their forces. Grimlock is just getting his bearings. If the bots in the shuttle are the Monsterbots then the Autobots at least know Grimlock is on Earth then it stands to reason that Ultra Magnus may show up since Grimlock is technically a wanted bot.

I've been thinking the same thing, especially since Grimlock isn't the only wanted 'bot on Earth; there's Scorponok, too.
I'll be intrigued to see what alt.modes the Monsterbots adopt, as well.

I realized something yesterday.
If those really are the Monsterbots on that ship then Repugnus was either paroled or released since he was one of the sparks seen imprisoned at Garrus-9.
