MP Prowl: Does He REALLY Deserve The Title MASTERPIECE?

Yes. Yes he does.
I was looking forward to MP Sideswipe much more than Prowl but now that Prowl has arrived... WOW! It actually took me longer to transform him into robot mode than back into car mode (without instructions), which is very unusual as normally getting to robot mode is the easiest transformation.
I haven't played with him much yet but he seems much better than Sideswipe so far: his car mode fits together better; everything clips into place in robot mode (unlike Sideswipe's shoulders); he has much better articulation (those ankles are crazy, and the double bicep and multiple shoulder joints are very nice); and his gun fits his hands better (I had to do the superglue trick on Sideswipe).
There are a couple of nice touches that don't seem absolutely necessary but really make a difference: little flaps that fill the gaps on the top of his foot and the extending shoulder cannons.
He isn't perfect. Prowl's leg proportions aren't great (those knees are way too high), but it doesn't seem to bother me anywhere near as much as with the new Blitzwing. His waist sculpt prevents him from lifting his thighs up to 90° yet still he seems better than Sideswipe to me.
On a different note, obviously this is nothing to do with the toy's design as they have just copied the car, but: the car design seems rather silly to me. Having the wing mirrors that far away from the driver severely limits how much can be seen in them. Also, the headlights are set back in half-tubes, surely that means the light won't dissipate in front of the centre of the car, right?
Anyway, these are my initial thoughts, how about you guys?

Articulation:
Head swivel, can look down SLIGHTLY, up almost 45°
Shoulders can do almost anything you'd want, and possibly more than your shoulders can do! They can swing forwards a little, thanks to the transformation joint, as well as shrug/droop and raise laterally.
Biceps swivel and double elbow.
Wrist rotation and opening hands.
Waist swivel.
Thighs swing outwards into full splits but only raise forwards to about 45°. Full thigh swivel. Knees bend about 90°. If you use the transformation joint they can bend further but it might look a little odd.
Ankles can pivot 45° so he can do a very wide A stance. Toes can raise or point down. There's an additional heel flap as well.
In short: you won't be complaining about poseability. And yes, he can stand on one leg.

The only 1 I planned on getting was Smokescreen, due to the color scheme, but now I might have to get all 3...

Re: MP Prowl: Does He REALLY Deserve The Title MASTERPIECE?
Today was a good day to be at home. I just got my Masterpiece Prowl and he is glorious. I've been waiting 7 years to have an MP Prowl in my hands, and I can say he was worth the wait. The only thing that I don't like about him is the fact that I am considering spending more money and buying a second one to display in car mode. Love this figure, though, I am a bit bias. Prowl has always been my favourite Autobot car.

Just unboxed my MP Prowl and it's been a long time since I had nothing bad to say about a figure.
He is incredibly stable and posable, no loose limbs or floppy joints, no paint issues. The head sculpt is fantastic, he looks focused and every so slightly pissed off. I currently have him stood next to MP Sideswipe and I am very happy.
I even like the coin, which is utterly pointless.

Are you sure it makes you biased? Intense love of a character/vehicle would probably make me more critical because I'd know more about it.

Great phrase, that man!
The Masterpiece collection is certainly shaping up to be something special.

Yes, yes he does. He is a truly a masterpiece in every sense of the word, everything about him is so well designed and comes together nicely in both modes.
Made a little picture showcase of him, as well as a what if thing with him and a Good Cop, Bad Cop thing -

God damn, can't wait to have all three of the Datsuns, the MP Sideswipe mold is fantastic, and this looks to be even grander!
God I love the new incarnation of the MP line, it used to be a line of stand alone figures you only got if you had a real interest in the character, but now it's something you need to get all of.

well i got my MP Prowl today. overall i am pleased with the figure, my only complaint is the arms could jave been a little tighter. his stransformation is just complex enough to enjoy, and hes very show accurate.
i am interested to hear others thoughts, and any defects or problems with this mold too.

Well said, man. With the 'bots being in scale, if he was in cartoon, he's a must. The MP line, thanks to Shogo Hazui, is trying to give us the full-on G1 experience. Gotta have 'em all.

Mine are too tight! The elbow joint is a little tighter than the transformation-bend-joint above it, even after loosening the screws.

Re: MP Prowl: Does He REALLY Deserve The Title MASTERPIECE?
Well, I gone doned it. I picked up a second Prowl off ebay. I bought him for descent price considering that he is coming with not one, but two of the Amazon exclusive shoulder cannons(which will look quite nice on Bluestreak).
I've been watching a few reviews on Prowl, and the one complaint that has been brought up (that I really don't understand) is, he doesn't roll very well, if at all. I prefer that my Masterpiece Transformers don't roll. I display my Masterpiece Transformers on shelves, as I assume most people do. I just like the piece of mind of knowing that I don't have to worry about my Autobots "rolling out" to their doom.

Been looking for a way to get the Binaltech add on missile launchers for the Impreza mold to work on MP Prowl, they will fit but at a slight angle.

Actually, even the G1 launchers don't look too bad. They don't clip on, but the bottoms are flat, so you can sit them on his shoulders.

Mine should arrive Monday, and I can't wait! Sure, I wish he and MP Sideswipe had metal parts and were taller, but this is the Prowl I've wanted since I was 6-7. I also like how faithful his robot design is to the cartoon, especially how his head is different from Bluestreak's and Smokescreen's.

Suz, if you wish he were bigger, then you clearly haven't thought ahead to when we get Jetfire, combiners or even potentially Omega Supreme. Or would you actually potentially want a 4' Omega Supreme (seriously, think of the practicalities and the $2000 price tag that theoretical figure would potentially come with)?

Sticking to the G1 'bot scale chart is part of the appeal of MP 2.0. Shogo Hazui and crew are slowly recreating the whole G1 world, not merely making cool one-offs. It's a near 30 year old dream come true for 34 year old guys like me.

A Skyfire would be great! But an Omega Supreme in scale with MP-10? I don't think I'd bother.

Some people might want to push their TF cars around the floor making engine noises. The reason mine doesn't roll well is that the back right wheel is a bit sticky.
Most people will display theirs in robot mode so there's no chance of rolling off the shelf.

That might be so, but considering this line is a license to print money, you can be sure he'll eventually happen.

That would be amazing! I imagine he would be about the same size as Generations Metroplex.

Actually, I was thinking of the MP figures I already have (Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Skywarp, Thundercracker, & Grimlock) and how small Sideswipe is in comparison. I already know why he is, I just wish he were as tall as the Planes.Bowspearer wrote:Suz, if you wish he were bigger, then you clearly haven't thought ahead to when we get Jetfire, combiners or even potentially Omega Supreme. But yes, MP versions of Jetfire and the Combiners would be monstrous! I'm not even sure I'd get them if they're ever made

That's just it though- if the cars were the size of the seekers, then the Seekers and Prime would be one and a half to double the size they are now. Even there you're starting to run into the same problem.

Re: MP Prowl: Does He REALLY Deserve The Title MASTERPIECE?
I bought Prowl, Bluestreak and Smokescreen all in one order so I still have a little while to wait before getting my hands on my figure.
One thing I've quickly learned is that if you get wishywashy prepare to pay more (Thanks Red alert
)
Masterpiece has rapidly evolved from an annual luxury figure into THE line to collect. Given whats happened in the last, what, 18 months? We've jumped from MP12 to 19? And with more additions already being announced for next year its about time to start sucking up to the boss for that raise.
But at the end of the day those Autobots on my shelf do look good facing off against their uncruzamatic adversary and I'm stoked to add more to the collection in the near future.
On a side note, will Bumblebee be, like, deluxe size?
