Primering a transformer?

hi guys. Im completely new to this stuff and i can only get my hands on Games workshop paints and not testors since i live in Australia and someone told me that since i cant get testors, i should be primering my figures before painting with Games Workshop by i have no idea wat that is. can someone expain?
THanks alot any info would be great

plastic primer comes in spray form
either as grey or transperent

u need to primer the figures or sand them in order that the paint will adhere better to the plastic ,and upon transforming then the paint wont chip....
