I don't hate it, because it's true. When you collect a series of toys aimed at small children, that makes you a geek.
So I take it in stride, pretend not to listen, and know that, as a geek, I'm destined to have a significantly higher paycheck than them.

Who cares what those chowderheads think, I know I don't.
Some friends were poking fun at me once for collecting them and lets say a little wrestling both arm and the traditional sense put tehm all to shame...my nickname for a while was Devastator.
Point being is that they never called me a geek again so don't let it bother you.

I stopped caring back in grade 10, that was almost 9 years ago. I tell people that geeks run the world, and if they try to deny that I ask them what they'd do without their precious internet, or cell phones, or other things produced by geeks.

Spirit-chugging, well-dressed, well-connected, imposing, cigar-toting foreigners who'll break your fridge and your sister in the same motion, doesn't really scream 'geek' to most people. To those it does, a drinking contest usually sorts out good and proper. It's never been an issue.

I think one of the biggest life lessons everyone needs to learn is not to let anyone "define" them.
But beyond that, I'm not sure how old you are, but I was much more embarassed to collect Transformers when i was say 10-14 then I am now. Back then everyone was starting to care about what girl to ask out, what clothes were cool, etc.
But a funny thing happened along the way and that's that a lot of us became "kids" again as we grew up. Action figure collecting is at an all-time high in this country and is actually "cool" to a lot of people. When people seeing me wearing a Transformers shirt now, I actually get quite a bit of compliments, especially since the movie made it more mainstream. There is a definite reason why movies like Transformers, Iron Man, X-Men and Spiderman do so well at the box office.
But if you want to feel fully comfortable in your geekiness one of these years you should copme to Botcon. When you step into that dealer's room it is pure bliss plus you'll have the chance to see thousands of other fans who are just like you.
That night at the Hilton hotel bar, between us and another Transformers message board trhere were probably 75+ TF fans in that bar!
Having a great time and feeling pretty darn cool!

I'm basically a nerd, and proud of it. If people want to make fun of me, then it's their problem that they're not like me.
Everything you guys have said sums it up fittingly. All I have to say is that I am a hardcore fan, and no one's going to change that anytime soon.

Not many people know about my hobby. When I was student teaching at a local high school, the students were surprised that a teacher collected TF and they were cool with it. I have gotten some discussions with the students about TF. I have several stories revolving around my students and TF. So, it shows that I am at their level in terms of interests at times.

I could care less what the rest of the world thinks of my hobbies! The ones that diss the most have their own "secret shames" that they hope and pray I never get a hold of!
One ex-friend of mine was merciless about giving me a rough time about my collection a little while back...it got quite rude, really.....So I thought it would be a good time to remind him that what he collects is not exactly very "cool" either.....a ADULT that collects all things Pokemon (he even still plays the card game!)....He took ENORMOUS offence to that, and I have not heard from him since. I have, however, heard from others that he is quite pissed at me for "bringing that up in public, and in front of his other male friends".....
....Some folks, I swear! *rolls eyes*
And to all of those who think it is a bad thing to be a nerd or a geek, THINK AGAIN! I am proud to be a "total dork", an "unsufferable nerd", and a "uber-geek"! At least I can think for myself and chose things to enjoy that are not "cookie-cutter"!

I don't care what anyone else thinks of me and all of my hobbies.
Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

I know a number of us have said stuff about not needing the approval of others or not caring what others think. And it's easy for us to say that.
But for the younger generation I do realise how hard it is because when you're at school it's a constant jostle for approval and to be accepted. Then you grow up and realise that you really didn't need their approval.
Just be yourself. If people treat you negatively because of who you are, well you wouldn't want their friendships either. School is tough but never let it get you down or your life will turn out to be crap. Be tough, stick it out, and when it's all over and done you'll come out strong and confidant. (In theory)

Being a nerd\geek for collecting toys isn't all that bad, really - I'm not only allergic to alcohol, but for the past 8 years I've been celibate. The social stigma those two carry are far, far worse, believe me.

Reputation is unimportant. What people think of you is unimportant. Don't let anyone take your happiness or enjoyment away. Always go against the grain and be who *YOU* want to be, not what they want you to be.
Changing yourself for anyone is bad. If you must, do it for yourself.
To thine own self be true.
