What was the first 3rd party product?

Knockoffs dont count here. Those have been around since the beginning of time. I want to know what the very first 3rd party product was. If anyone can help out here, you'd scratch a spot I cant reach, so to speak.

Check out my Art Thread! It actually gets updated from time to time!

I think it was the Cyber Fembots (Arcees) by Rabid Squirrel.

I seem to recall shoulder cannons for Alternators Smokescreen being the first I remembered.

This is a difficult question to answer.
No those where actually based on two different 3rd party Arcees from Japan, one was done by JD Productions, basically everything Rabid Squirrel produced where direct KOs or modified versions of other people's items, mostly JD Productions.
Now the oldest 3rd Party figure I know of is a US cartoon accurate Cerebros head (Spike) for Fortmax.
The above mentioned Rabid Squirrel guy bought one from a Japanese collector over ebay, all the seller knew was that it was sculpted and cast by a guy in Japan in the late '80s or early '90s, the original artist is unknown, it is also unknown how many where originally produced.
And since he couldn't track down the original artist, Rabid Squirrel made a mold from it and then sold (badly) resin cast kits from it, just ask robofreak how crappy the casting is on them, he waited about a week or two resculpting it for someone just so it could be assembled and painted.
There might be even older items out there but as of yet I haven't found any.

Re: What was the first 3rd party product?
Yep. This reminds me. Hal still owes me a Fembot ARC kit. If you see this post Hal, please contact me.
I do have all of the RSP remnants for the Hirofumi Cerebros mold. I believe that one was confirmed to be done by Hirofumi, but I do stand to be corrected.
I've got the mold, the piece that was casted, and some remaining kits. They require a crap ton of work though in order to get them to the point of being able to be used and even then, you're afraid to actually use it for the headmaster gimmick due to paint chipping.
The first 3rd party stuff were Wonderfest items. I believe the Rodimus Prime resin kit and Arcee kits are the first. If not the first, some of the earliest.

That wasn't even FP's first upgrade, if I'm not mistaken their first project was the classics cliffjumper head and BFG.

Oh, haha, I misread the question. I thought the OP was asking what people's first 3rd party product they bought was. I shouldn't be posting when I'm half asleep.

Assuming anyone could ever narrow down a good answer for the topic question, I don't suppose it would hurt to start talking about what any given person's first foray into 'third party' TF items may have been. Mine was the city commander, way back when it was first announced/released. First time I ever pre-ordered something from BBTS, and I'd forgotten about it right up until it arrived at my door.

I still regret not jumping on that when I had the chance, but alas I was a poor university student at the time.

Well I don't like to make publicity but, in that case it could help you, too I still have a KO version of this upgrade kit in my selling topic.

Sorry, but if I were to get the kit, which is pretty redundant now with the Devil Horns kit and guns, I'd track down a legit kit for a decent price.
It's how I roll.

Mine was the FP Bruticus upgrade. I remember applying for my 1st credit card because of this set. before that I was a cash only guy and had just started collecting Bayformers in retail stores. But anything Combaticons is a must have so I got with the times.

The first one I bought was City Commander. FP loyalist since.
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

This thread is now clearly about what your own personal first purchase was.
I got the Unicron.com Beast Machines set when they first came out. The stands for Blackarachnia and Thrust and the Cheetor swords are somewhere in storage even though I know for a fact that I don't have the figures anymore. I got the set just for the Key and I lost that when I moved.
(Seriously, does anyone have one they're willing to part with? The metal Key made for Beast Machines, not the plastic one made to go with Vector Sigma from Botcon '07.)
The first thing I got in the modern era of 3rd party companies (not just a couple of guys working out of a garage) would be the FP Cliff set. Thousands of dollars later...
I mean, how else are you supposed to get a complete cast of the Movie let alone first out the rest of the gaps in the lineup?

Re: What was the first 3rd party product?
First 3rd party toy I got was either City Commander or the Quintesson Judge. I think it might have been the Quint judge, but I can't say for sure. It blew me away that these holes were being filled in such an effective way.
That judge and CC have never stopped being in my display somewhere. I love CC so much that I've bought both upgrade sets for him and the Dr. Wu face. Sadly this is the first run of CC so the Dr. Wu face is useless. Need to buy either parts or (more likely) a CC KO just for the head.
