MP Prime. He's pretty much the first to get. Optimum Supreme's reviews were pretty spot-on, too.
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

I have a few Primes.

I have Cybertron mode Animated Prime and I find the show-accuracy an awesome thing to behold. I have the smaller Armada Prime ("Bendy"??) and it's an amazing little figure to pose. Robot Heroes Prime. Cute but does nothing. Alternators prime is... finicky to say the least and the kibble and awkwardness to pose and transform puts me off it a bit - that and it's not actually a truck. But it's the Japanese MP-04 that I really love. Full-length smoke stacks, die-cast metal, highly articulate and show accurate. As stated before, the not-quite-aligning chest windows is a bit of a pain (I thought it must have just been mine that was like that) but it's not OVERLY noticeable and there are ways to sort it out.

Get some Prime inta ya!

Well, okay, MP Prime is a must, any version is still from the same mold, so let your preferences guide as to which to get.

I highly recommend Classics/Henkei Prime. It's a great update of the original, and it has two weapons, but that's not the main reason why I say get it. There are so many 3rd party options with this guy it is ridiculous:

1: Fanproject G3 Trailer: I have it. it is awesome. First off it is base for all the modern TF's out there. That alone makes it worth. Also, it is highly faithful to the original, the mirrors settle the question of where it went in the cartoon, it comes with a butt load of weapons for your other classics figures, it can carry around other figures, roller, Repo Labels have more stickers for it, and it has a connection port for a second trailer...

2: FansProject's City Commander armor is repainted for classics prime, and hooks up to the G3 Trailer. I think it's called Powered Armor and is meant to represent the Diaclone Prime, but it is the closest you can get to a modern Power Master Prime.

3: Mobile Command Base is another trailer/base option that works, and there's a accessory pack for it.

4: Perfect Effect has a big ass sword for this Prime that also transforms into a jet pack with cannons, a smaller sword, and a shield.

5: The Gears of War 2 set is not only meant to work with this Prime, but Movie Primes, the Powered Commander Armor set, and Alterity Prime as well. I just leave it with my classics Prime, so now he's got a bigger version of Prime's original gun that lights up and a smaller version whose back end lights can be put behind Prime's head so the light piping really get lit up. Ya know, for when he's got the Touch.

6: The battle Roller set is meant to work with MP Prime, and Classics Prime as well. It gives him more weapons, a Jet pack, an additional robot, and depending on which one you get, more accessories for your Gears of war set.

Not all of them are cheap, but any one of these alone make the figure worth it. Getting a combination of several is just to cool for words.

I haven't had many traditional "Primes", mostly ones from the beast line, but I do have a couple others. I'd have to say Animated Voyager Prime is the most show accurate that I've seen. The only thing that's missing is his show accurate axe and no real cab in alt mode. However, it's a real nice toy, and you can even move his face plate up or down to reveal his animated mouth. He's also very posable and solid. I know a lot of people didn't like the animated line, but I totally loved it, and would recommend this prime out of any of the ones I currently own.

If you want to do what Jazz says and "Do it with style or don't bother doing it" go with the classics two pack of FAB prime from 07 and deluxe prime from the Optimus Prime V.S. Megatron 2 pack of 06. Either them or Leader 07 NWOP. You cannot go wrong with him unless you open him. His ion blaster becomes so loose you might want to take it off when about to transform him. :BOT:

People are going to beat me to a pulp for this but... I don't like MP Prime. I just don't... it has no appeal to me. It's a big waste of space and I'm tired of seeing it being used over and over, and I borderline outright hate it.

No, I'm not joking. Sorry.

I've got a fair few Primes, certainly more of him than any other Transformer. MP is the way to go for toon accuracy for the G1 character. That figure, in whatever variation is the dog's hoo-hahs.

After that, I'd heavily recommend RiD/Car Robots Prime and Magnus (not just because Magnus is amazing and Omega Prime's not too shabby either) and then the G1 version in some form or other. I don't own a Classics version, other than the Deluxe sized one (which I actually like the robot mode of) but Voyager Classics Prime (or his Henkei variant) look pretty sweet.

If you don't own Optimal Optimus, and are looking for a good red and blue Prime, the Primal Prime toy from Beast Machines might be a good idea. It's a good, fun toy in it's original incarnation, if a bit less amazingly complex and mind-blowing than was probably intended. In G1 Prime's colours I can only see it as an improvement. The big Armada one, in either Powerlinx or normal colours is pretty sweet if you combine him with Jetfire and Overload/Ultra Magnus. I've got all the later released versions of each mold and my mostly blue Super-Duper Mode Prime is a Thunderclash stand-in/replacement in my collection.

For Movieverse Prime's I only own the 1st film's Voyager class Prime, and it's ok. If, by chance, you own a lot of Energon Deluxes (like I do) the Deluxe class Op from that line isn't too bad, and will give you the option to combine Rodimus and Optimus to form...Multi-Generational Prime! Or any other combination/name you can think of with the various molds. I don't own the Thunderbirds/Voltron/Megazord version, because it didn't look all that good. Lastly, the WFC version looks good from photos and the Armada Supercon/Deluxe class mold got released a lot in various decos and is supposed to be pretty good too.

Basically, Masterpiece version first, then cherry-pick the rest depending on what you've already got in your collection and what appeals to you in general.

edit: THS/Hybrid Style Convoy looks friggin amazing, but he's supposedly very tiny.

assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.

Seconded. "Bendy" Armada Prime is freaking awesome, and the Magnus repaint is one of the best "White Prime" repaints out there, the mold looks great in the bright white.

And the Nemesis repaint will be mine as well, someday.

Mighty Muggs Prime...the detail is amazing and the transformation is spot on!!! So many gimmicks and just hours and hours of playability!

No but honestly...I have to agree with the dozen or so other people and say MP Prime. I mean, once you hold him in your hands and feel the heavy, metallic weight of pure awesomeness...and you look into those ridiculously shiny blue eyes, you know what you have is perfection. Seriously though, that thing is freaking heavy as ****! But he's a really cool toy...no doubt about it.

Also, I wasn't really big on the movie Primes...until I got the Leader Class and combined it with the Leader Class Jetfire and created something that is in a totally different category of "freaking beastly amazing and awe-inspiring". =P~

I also have a soft spot for Classics Prime because he was the Transformer that started it all for me (found him at a wholesale outlet store for $8 couple of years ago). My wife sometimes wished I never found that damn figure. :P

If I were in your situation, I would seriously pick up RoTF Prime. It might be fiddly, but it looks really good. I actually think the 07 Movie Prime has his merits as well. In fact, I think it is the better "toy" out of the two.

The Classics/Henkei mold is just freaking cool in my opinion.

If you just want to get a good, cheap OP figure you need to grab the WFC Deluxe. That thing is quite nice. I actually love that figure.

As far as Masterpiece Prime is concerned, I like it a lot. I think it is a truly amazing figure. The bot mode is absolutely amazing. But, the alt mode isn't -in order to make the bot mode accurate, the cab-over truck mode was compromised o lot, making it look stupid (imo). I certainly understand why most people love the figure, because it is freaking amazing. However, I think it is a bit overrated and a hair overpriced. Some folks might even say his enormous size is an issue. MP OP is definitely not without flaws.

Get yourself the figure that started it all.......Encore G1 Convoy or better iPod Optimus Prime version.

MP-01 or THS-02 also makes for a first Prime.

Galaxy force and/or CarRobots Fire Convoy+Godmagnus..........that would be awesome!
