You can just put Generations Wheeljack's accessories on Prime's. Ain't rocket science. It annoys me when people put down the whole figure because of an on screen character portrayal and his sword accessories. Simple fix: Remove the swords from the picture. Swap weapons. Forget everything about the damn Driftjack characterization, and he's not a bad Wheeljack.
THANK YOU!!!
I was reading through this whole thread, and my jaw was agape at the comments.
Generations WJ is a fine figure, but he's less Wheeljack, and too much of a Tracks repaint. And look at the alt mode. Does it look like a Lancia Stratos? No. No it does not.
So, plusses for TF:P WJ:
His alt mode is an excellent update to the Lancia.
His long arms ape the arms in the G1 toy (pun intended).
The Wings are awesome on TF:P WJ, the wings on Generations WJ look all wrong.
Generations WJ = horrible backpack kibble.
While both are kind of short, Generations WJ is REALLY short.
Really cool transform.
Doesn't look like Tracks' little brother.
Minuses for TF:P WJ:
Comes with swords
Has a bit of arm kibble
If you want to get picky you can add this:
The face on TF:P is a little stylized
To fix he few perceived problems I did this.
I gave the swords to Drift (who should have them anyway) and made a couple shoulder cannons for him.*see recipe below
Realized the arm kibble is a LOT less annoying than people like to whine about.
While the face certainly has "a look", I don't find it too far off the normal look for Classics figs. If it really bugs you swap the head with Generations or Energon Downshift.
For me there was no comparison. I yanked my Generations WJ with reprolabels, in favor of the TF:P version.
* To make launchers, take a launcher from Grindcore or Landmine, and shorten the "smokestacks" a little, and carefully trim the peg to fit in the shoulder hinge behind his head (or just pop them in the 5mm peg holes on the outside of the shoulders, but I think the behind the head look is better). Get a missile, ROTF Starscream's work nice. If you wish, shorten them up by cutting off the end and creating new latches in the back. Paint 'em up a simple black. Done. Of course, if you muck up your figures, parts or fingers, don't blame me, this is merely a suggestion

In all senses, continuity, portrayal and so on.
Prime WJ is an hommage to G1 WJ, as is Breakdown.
If you were to choose one, I agree with whoever says that it depends on the rest of the collection: you want something 'classic'? Generations. More streamlined and Aligned? Prime.

One thing that gets me is why the image on the card shows WJ holding some type of firing weapon rather than his blades...?

Because he uses it in the show.

I'ma Geewunner myself, and even I like the Prime Wheeljack figure. It's more like G1 than it's CGI Model IMO.

Well that explains it considering my not caring for the show, thanks Gyrotron. But it's funny how things involving show accuracy can be a hit and miss sometimes. Like the image you posted, his feet seem to be (or at least look) a different color and the actual figure they are black. In the show he uses a firing weapon and the figure he's got swords so it can leave one thinking "WTF".

They did the same thing with Cliffjumper (Battle Hammer), Arcee (Ion Blaster), Megatron (Battle Knife Thingy), and Optimus Prime (Dinky Gun, n00b!). But they somehow managed to get the right weapons on Bumblebee (arm blasters), Soundwave (Laserbeak), Ratchet (Knives), Vehicon (Some...blaster thing...), and Knock Out (Staff that Electrucutes n00bs). Aside from that, he also uses the swords.

Well, he's also suppoesd to have a hip-gernade, red sword handles, and a greyer face, but we didn't get those either
Moving on...
