Hey guys,

I just got a RID Ultra Magnus but sad to say this toy had rusted (sp?) badly.. was wondering if you guys got any tips on removing the rust without spoiling any paint apps. The rust is mostly on all the screws and whats not. Thanks.

Rust can't be completely removed (some of my old G1s are testaments to that) but you can clean them up a bit with some water and swabs.

Tiny brush. Some sort of rust protection paint. Top coat of some colour to disguise the screw?

Ah yes. This was the case with the Japanese MISB Overlord I got back in "03. He must have been stored in a basement because though the decals and papers were all in good shape, the screws on the toy had oxidized.

First, I removed the screws and scoured them clean with a wire brush. It wasn't prefect, since the screw's bright plating had corroded, but at least they were clean.

Then, over time I began to replace the screws with ones pirated from junk TFs that I found here and there. Problem solved!

Kinda off-topic, but this thread had me thinking that Rust would be a kickbutt name for a Transformer.

I agree, he could be Kup's father. :P
As for the rusting screws, remove them and soak them in a bit of WD-40 perphaps? just make you clean them good with some rubbing alcohol before you put them back in.
