Silly Return Policy Question

Postby kdo » Mon Mar 22, 2010 9:24 pm

Recently i purchased a Rotf Leader class Prime from Wal-Mart for full price; however there is now a better sale at Zellers.

The problem is I have already opened the Wal-Mart Prime. My question is can I buy the cheaper Zellers Prime and then return that to Wal-Mart with my Wal-Mart receipt.

This seems like a silly question, but i don't know if bar codes on boxes identify which retail store the toy was originally bought at.

Thanks!

Or if you had a print ad and your Walmart receipt you could probably just get refunded the difference, but your scenario would also work.

Is this ethically sound? Are you actually trying to rip-off a store?

I personally don't find issue with it...I see it as price matching. And you're returning the same item you purchased in the same, unopened condition so I don't know how you'd be trying to rip-off the store...and no one is getting screwed buying the item you brought back.

I don't find it unethical since you would return a brand new prime, or you could repackage yours, return it, and buy the zellers prime. JM2C

Exactly. I am not ripping a store off. I am just preventing myself from having to rebox the Leader Prime that is already open.

--As a follow up to the story:
-I went to Zellers and bought the Leader Prime and an animated Meg Leader. The cashier entered half price in her computer for both figures. The sale was SUPPOSE to be buy one at full price get ONE half price; instead i saved about $60.

-Does anyone have any ethical issues with this scenario?

Ps: One of my friends worked as a Zellers cashier. They have the discretion to enter an item half off if it seems damaged. So the cashier will not be held accountable for the mistake (I would not have let it slide if this was the case)

No one's getting ripped off here. There's nothing wrong with what he's doing.

Even if he cashier was accountable, it's the employee's fault, not yours. So, no problem from me!

And another thing, if they have a price match policy then fine, go for it. We don't have Wall Mart over here so I wouldn't know.

If you really want to know, I'm honestly less "ok" with this scenario... From my perspective, if no one is getting screwed it's all good. In this scenario, someone is kinda "getting screwed" as it's due to a mistake. It's certainly nothing you'd get in trouble over, but if we're talking ethics, this is more along the lines of the cashier accidentally giving you an extra $20 with your change....what do you do?

who gives a crap if walmart gets screwed?!

walmart has the ability to shift the entire north american economy, no one should ever be worried about saving a few bucks off them.

honestly, with all the ways an average citizen gets screwed over in america, why worry about its largest corporation?

silly.

The question was a matter of ethics, not whether you should worry about Walmart missing out on a few bucks... But if one shouldn't give two craps about Walmart, why not just straight up steal figures from them?

And FWIW, Walmart wasn't even the store in question in the scenario laid out above...

*edit: upon second glance, it's not clear who you are replying to so my response could be off base...potentially my bad.

My response is to any poster siding with walmart in this "ethics" debate.

The idea that anyone would feel ethically challenged by the misuse of walmarts return policy, or any large retail chains return policy is absurd.

You realize we only get one life right? Considering the ethics of saving a few dollars at a global corporation's expense is a waste of time. They certainly don't waste that kind of time debating the ethics of their decisions if the outcome is advantageous to them.
